Hoka One One Kaha Low GORE-TEX Black Charcoal Grey

In 2009, Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Dirad founded Hoka One One with the intention of developing a running shoe that could cope with the demanding trails in the Alps, Pyrenees and Dolomites. This goal was already achieved in the first few years and now the brand wants to conquer the fashion world. Named for the Māori word for strength and support, the Kaha GORE-TEX delivers both. With surprising speed, it makes the ups easier and the downs quicker. When hiking over long distances, this trekking shoe will deliver you to your destination in comfort and safety. Unequaled in its weight-to-cushion ratio, the Kaha GORE-TEX offers the full HOKA ONE ONE package — proprietary foams, patented geometries and exceptional Vibram Megagrip traction. Soft and smooth, but inherently supportive, the Kaha GTX features a GORE-TEX waterproof bootie that’ll keep your feet comfortable and dry regardless of the conditions.

A cinderella story

These beasts are incredible right out of the box. As of 2 weeks from getting them, I've put these through the ringer at Shenandoah. I was scared of the reviews that were saying these fit tight because my feet float somewhere between 10 and 10.5, are almost wide fit, and I also wear toe socks, but I felt like cinderella slipping these on in 10.5.The toe box on the Kaha's is generous and the interior is flawlessly padded - no uncomfortable grooves or stitching. I could feel the outline of the robust rubber toe cap, but I quickly forgot about it after half a mile. The midsole is a cloud, but not numb to the trail. The vibram outsole can take a beating and seriously, seriously grips everything wet and dry. My feet felt so loved and secured by the almost bucket-like fit of the heel, which I didn't expect out of a low hiking shoe. The Nubuck upper is supple, but can get pretty toasty inside. The Kaha Low definitely trends as a cold and wet weather shoe, so bring extra socks or wear sock liner in case you hike these in the summer. Even under 40lbs on my back, these shoes made hiking a joy at even the most grueling points of the trail. All in all, if you're looking for a multi-day, long-range backpacking shoe that fits like a boot and is built for durability and all-day comfort, pull the trigger. Happy trails!

I wear this shoe everyday. I can say that it is very comfortable , almost like wearing slippers. Did a 4 mile hike in the mountains this past weekend. There we alot of steep rocky stretches and I felt no rocks on the bottom of my foot like I did with my former hiking shoe. Only drawback was small pebbles and sand needed to be dumped occasionally. Considering the new Anacapa for my next shoe.

Heard a lot of good things about Hoka and decided to get a pair for my trip to Alaska. Perfect shoe for the entire trip; from the airport to the Artic Ocean to Resurrection Bay. I wound up wearing it more than the boots I packed for the expected mud because they were more comfortable. Great all around shoe for the outdoors.

Excellent support - I'm in between sizes
18 December 2022

I usually wear a 12 in boots. With HOKA I have to wear 12.5 with thin dress socks for the office or I order a 13 for my regular thick all year wool socks. These boots have excellent support and I wear them all day. My problem is that with the low ankle cut of this boot my foot does not have the extra strapping. Because I need to get a 13, I have some heel clap. But I am dealing with it bc the boot is otherwise excellent and keeps me out of pain.

I had high hopes for these shoes
20 January 2021

This is everything I was looking for in a hiking shoe that I've been unable to find elsewhere... a durable upper, vibram soles, gore-tex liner, and maximum cushion. So, of course, I pre-ordered these when they were announced. I don't have particularly wide feet, but the forefoot on these is too narrow, and my feet started going numb after a short walk around the neighborhood. I also found the heal to rub slightly. I'll try and dial in the lacing around the heal and forefoot to improve the fit and minimize the rubbing issues. Maybe they'll break in, but if not, I'll likely be returning them within the 60-day guarantee period. If wider options become available, I would reconsider, but sadly, my search for the perfect hiking shoe continues.

Kaha Low GTX
19 December 2022

I purchased a pair of Kaha GTX. These shoes didn't need a break in time. They were extremely comfortable and fit just as good. Unfortunately, they finally wore out. I wanted to try a pair of Kaha Low GTX. I thought that they were the same show as the Kaha GTX but didn't fit as high on your ankle. While they are very comfortable and now broken in, they tend to make my feet hurt in the foot arch area. I assume that they are made differently. I hope in the near future that my new Kaha Low GTXs will start to feel better on my feet. They have good cushioning but it doesn't seem quite as good as the Kaha GTX. I'm not saying that these shoes are bad, they just don't seem to feel as good as the Khah GTX. After these wear out I will go back to the Kaha GTX. Solid Hiking Shoes, comfortable, plenty of Cushion!
7 July 2021

These are very solid and comfortable shoes. I am on my feet all day as a home health occupational therapist and I use these shoes for work and for hiking on the trails. A lot of cushion. I wasn't sure if they were going to be narrow because I usually wear a size 12 wide, but these seem to fit good without any problems. I was concerned about my feet getting too hot because of the Gore-Tex material but they are just fine. I will plan on getting another pair of these shoes if they ever wear out.

Stability and comfort all day long
24 February 2021

I bought these as a snow-day shoe but I want to wear them all the time. The level of cushion in the heel and stability is better than I have in any other shoe I own. Yet they're still plenty light to grab for a quick dog walk or something. Next level grip on the sole -- a real step up from a typical trail runner, but could still easily be used for that, too. It's great to have a shoe that's not quite an ankle-high hiker but more than a trail sneaker. This is it. Incredible product. Runs a little big, I'd say, but your mileage may vary.

Super Narrow - Beware
21 February 2021

I have the Kaha Gore-Tex mid in the same size and it is a first rate shoe, no problems at all. But the Kaha Gore-Tex low is a different case in the width and the lack of cushioning in tongue especially at the top (lacing up is going to hurt if you lace tight to avoid foot shifting on steeper descents). The width is so narrow that I had to trim the width of my Super-feet inserts to fit. I wore this shoe off and on for 4 weeks and they were super in so many ways (grip, look, stability, etc.); I really gave them a try. But my feet blistering on the instep after a 10-miler was the last straw. So back they go. Make them wider please!

These shoes saved my knees!
5 September 2021

Been a fan of Hoka since I bought my first pair of Bindi's. Decided to try the Kaha Low for hiking. Did a 25 mile backpack trip with a 30 lb pack up the Bonds in the White Mountain National Forest. My knees would normally hurt for a couple days after a hike like that, but this time they didn't hurt at all. The extra cushioning made a huge difference hiking the rocky NH trails. Traction and support were both great. My only gripe is that they don't carry the WIDE size like they do with the Bindi's. I had to go to a size 14 and wear liners with my socks. I'm hoping Hoka reads these reviews and starts offering WIDE sizes in these shoes by the time I'm ready to buy my next pair.
