The gusset tongue is not for the people like me. Speedgoat 5 with the loose tongue worked just fine for me, but with speedgoat 6gtx that is sewn in- I can't get my foot in it without significant force. I have 9D mens size and I am going to cut the tongue gusset. Would fit just fine without that sewn tongue.

I purchased the wide (EE) version hoping to avoid the tightness others have mentioned in similar reviews. Unfortunately, I still experienced significant tightness over the top of my foot (midfoot), which caused my toes to go numb. Despite trying to break them in over two days, the shoes remained too tight, even without the laces. A larger size does not work for me because it becomes too long. Please consider redesigning the shoes to provide more room in the midfoot area while allowing the laces to tighten as needed. I have returned these shoes and am now trying the Clifton 9 GTX.

I have two pair of your waking shoes that I am totally happy with! I made the mistake off thinking I would get the same comfort in your hiking shoe. What a disappointment!!! I bought the same size in all three pair of shoes. When put to the test of a trail ,the hiking shoes rub the top of my instep and the second toe, next to my big toe and middle toe.
I've worn HOKA Cliftons and Machs for years and have been very happy with them. I wanted something waterproof and with a little better traction for trails so I tried the Speedgoat. Very disappointed with them...especially for the price. Clunky, stiff and a real pain to get in and out of. The tongue has virtually no padding and is fixed with non stretchy material. I was experiencing some heel slip so I adjusted the lacing pattern accordingly and that fixed the slipping but resulted in the laces being very uncomfortable on the top of my foot when going downhill. I gave 3 stars because the cushioning was great when running on level ground. I really like HOKA and REI but will be returning these.
I just checked Strava, I've owned 8 pair of Hokas. All size 11.5. Bondi, Mach, Speedgoat 5. Same in Salomon, Brooks, Saucany. I bought this shoe to replace the 5. I put them on and got in the car to head to a nearby trail and turned around a mile later. They were cutting off the circulation on both feet. The tongue is attached to the shoe with a material that doesn't stretch and even untied, I have trouble getting them on and off. Went to local REI in hopes that the shoe was mislabeled but no such luck, that pair was the same. Got a credit, drove home, ordered another Speedgoat 5. Hopefully Hopefully the Speedgoat 7 will go back to the same sizing because I love the shoe
I've been wearing SG GTX since version 4. I've had my new SG6 GTXs for about a week. They seem stiffer than the 5s; as a result, the 5s seem more stable--I fit *in* the 5s, but I feel like I'm "on top" of the 6s, which I don't like as much. The 5s felt like they adhered to the surface--trail, rocks, beach-- for running and for walking through sloppy stuff in wet weather. The 6s feel more like hiking boots, with their stiffer, less flexible sole. I adopted a more cushioned insole (Powerstep) than my usual Superfeet green to compensate.I suppose the 6's might wear longer--some people knocked the 5s because they wore out, but I didn't mind because they did their job superlatively. I don't like them *too* flexible (like Asics Kayanos) but I appreciate the cushion for ... MoreI've been wearing SG GTX since version 4. I've had my new SG6 GTXs for about a week. I don't like them *too* flexible (like Asics Kayanos) but I appreciate the cushion for running and walking as my feet are kind of beat up but I'm not done with them yet. I haven't tried these on a hike yet, so possibly I'd appreciate the stiffness more; I use them for walking (5+ miles most days) and some running (usually 3 miles a few times a week; though I use other shoes as well). These actually feel a lot more like my Asics GT2000 GTXs, which use primarily for running.I also notice that, with being stiffer, the sole seems to drop under my toes more--making my walks more like rocking steps. Don't like this so much.I may give these another week of intensive trial but at this point I am considering returning them and getting a pair of 5s.
I have quite a few pairs of Hokas. I have wanted a pair of waterproof GTX shoes in wide for years. I wanted them for walking while playing golf. What has happened to Hoka? They are so cheaply made. Started failing apart after three rounds. Islets are tearing through. The tongue has no padding. The insole is so cheap. It is exactly the same width of my Hokas of the same size. Not waterproof at all. Shoelaces are weird. The only redeeming quality is the vibram sole.
Decent shoes for trail and hiking. I purchased these shoes mainly for hiking and trails and i am satisfied with my purchase. They provide good grip and support on rough terrain as well. I am not 100 percent satisfied with the fitting. I have broad feet hence I purchased wide shoes and they fit just ok.
I have owned two pairs of Speedgoats. Ordered the Speedgoat GTX in the same size. I struggled to get my foot in. The shoe was much narrower than my older Speedgoats. The sizing was so different that I double checked the sizing. Same length, just significantly narrower. Shoe looks cool. Sadly, will be returning.
