Holbein WC 15ml Indigo

(1,536 reviews)

A European style transparent watercolor, Holbein watercolor also preserves the brush handling qualities inherent in traditional Japanese watercolor techniques. Without ox-gall, other animal by-products or other dispersing agents, Holbein watercolor moves slowly, thus permitting greater color density and brush control. It is a color line with a consistent creamy texture that remains smooth when dry without cracking, crumbling, chipping or molding in the palette. It may be re-wetted easily like a pan color. For this reason Holbein does not produce watercolors in pan form but allows artists to create their own selection. Fill the wells of a suitable palette with the desired color selection. Permit to dry, then wet the color when needed. Holbein watercolors produce brilliant transparent washes as well as powerful clean darks when used in more concentrated applications. Engineered to surpass the quality standards set by both North American and European manufacturers, Holbein watercolor is widely preferred around the world for its handling qualities.

Okay, what I have been trying to find is the basic three primary colors in watercolor that are pure colors. Cyan, Yellow, and Magenta. From these you can theoretically make
all colors. Holbein has clean, bright, pure colors. I only used Holbein Yellow, Quinacridone Magenta, and Pthalo blue, (yellow shade) in the picture I included. For the cat only I
used Cobalt Violet light. You can see from the picture the secondary colors of Green, Purple and Orange. I am happy with the secondary colors. No gray Purples or Olive
Greens or brown Oranges. Just clean colors. Also, when I get Holbein watercolors. I get the advantage of painting in the Japanese non- dispersive color style, or b... Show more

I bought this to replace my M. Graham Indian Yellow. The M. Graham brand is a lovely paint, but it remains soft in the palette and tends to run all over into other colors if you
move it (and my palette goes everywhere with me). Holbein Isoindolinone Yellow Deep is the exact same pigment as M.Graham Indian Yellow (PY110), and just as vibrant, but
it stays in the well.

Great addition to my pallet!
4 April 2024
This paint is very rich and creamy and a really good neutral alone or mixed with other colors. It is lovely for using in a landscape, very transparent and serene. I also like to use it for leaves and shadows. It spreads easily at any consistency and covers the paper nicely, so I give it an A+ for performance. My order was shipped out quickly and packaged carefully.... Show more

Impressive!

Super nice quality pro watercolor paints! Vibrant, and they disperse well in wet. Saturated too, the Cobalt is amazing. The clarity is lovely on these paints and for the most part the colors are nuanced rather than overly bright or cartoonish looking. They set up very well in a DIY pan. I like this brand just as well as Daniel Smith. Daniel Smith has a more engaging and helpful website that makes it easier to locate full specs, and if you're a big fan of granulation, DS has more (and more inventive) options in that category. But Holbein seems to have a better selection of non granulating paints. They make some interesting paler and pastel colors too, none of which are in this set, except for Chinese White which is a great paint because it can dupe the effect of ... MoreSuper nice quality pro watercolor paints! Lilac
16 April 2024
I have quite a few of these watercolors and like them, crimson lake, leaf green lovely colors. I had been recommended the lilac several times so I ordered it. I do not like this and I would not even classify the lilac as watercolor I would classify it as a gouache. It is so opaque and flat and dead looking. If you want a similar color tone with some vibrancy I highly recommend Wisteria instead.#sweepatakes... Show more

Lovely Opaque Paint
10 August 2024
This is my first time using Holbein watercolors and I am impressed! I really enjoy their range of colors and the overall characteristics of the paint. It does behave more like gouache than other watercolors I have used, but I use gouache regularly so it is not a problem. #sweepstakes... Show more

Warm white
14 February 2024
This color is not quite yellow and not quite white, but a warm shade somewhere in between. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because it is somewhat opaque. When it is thinned down, it is very usable in places where you want to Glaze over another color in order to make it appear a little misty. Conversely, full strength, kit can cover a mistake pretty well..... Show more

Yes, I would along with the acrylics and Aqua Duo by Holbein
2 August 2022
I normall do not write reviews let alone about higher type products especially in the art department. My sister and I have been watching many You Tube channels regarding various watercolor and other forms of art material. I decided to jump the fence and buy some Holbein watercolors, a big undertaking for me. i had found a bag of old paints and low and behold, my Aqua Duo oils were Holbein. Imagine my surprise. I purchased them as part of my art class at junior college had to pack away most of my supplies and forgot I had them. Those are great. However to get back to Watercolors. My learning curve with watercolors so far is limited. In learning i kept wanting to use them like acrylics or oils. Not a good idea I found. Then I decided several days ago to jump in feet first and give it another try and opened up the box of Holbein again. I absolutely loved the colors which are bright and clean. I found I could mix colors together without fear although I can still muddy the waters so to speak. But it is easier. I now have several projects to water color that will Hopeflly get me better at this form of art work. Would I order Holbein again? Absolutely., My sister has ordered some of their product and I also ordered their Acryllic 12 paints. Have made my color swatch but not painted with them yet. That's one of my next projects in a day or so. However, from what limited time I have used them, they are like butter in consistency to use. Anyhow, sorry this is so long.... Show more
