Who would have thought leaving some water sitting in a galvanised watering can would rust the base? And to add insult to injury when I picked it up the handle attached to the side broke away. What a laugh - on their website Holmans describe this watering can as strong and durable and suited to Australian conditions

DO NOT BUY THIS! Leaks everywhere. Why are Bunnings selling this useless watering can?

I purchased this Holman galvanised watering can yesterday. I used it for the first AND LAST time yesterday afternoon. After watering some plants outside my laundry door I put the can on the floor in my laundry (didn’t want to find a frog in there today, thus why I put it inside). 15 minutes later I’m walking in water on my laundry floor. No holes in watering can. Just very poorly made seals, therefore USELESS! I’m annoyed I know have to waste my time returning this item!

Don't buy this or probably any similar Holman watering can

The nozzle is hopeless. The slightest bit of dirt can block a hole or cause the spray to shoot off in all directions. Also while the nozzle is detachable, the shape means it's very difficult to get rid of all 'foreign' particles. Plus I've had mine for just over two years and it's already showing rust spots on the bottom.

Holman 'galvanised' 9L watering can
5 February 2023

I bought 3 of these Holman watering cans at Bunning stores in recent years. I bought the first one because I was not aware of their poor quality. I bought the second one because I thought I had a bad run with the first one, and I bought the third one because I am a moron and should have known better! Each of my three Holman cans rusted away and became useless within 18 months or so of the purchase. I still have a Tomlin galvanised watering can (bought it perhaps 20 years ago), there is no sign of any rust on it. I cannot recommend a Holman galvanised 9 L watering cans manufactured in the late 2010s, early 2020s.

Ineffective watering can
10 June 2020

The design of the shower head uses a small hole and because of the very flat shower head design it struggles to distribute water evenly to all the individual holes. Because of this, water takes too long to come out and is not very efficient. I often find myself holding it up too long. The metal construction is sturdy, but unfortunately my unit came with excess glue at the bottom and paired with the design it is not a good watering can.Watering cans with more ergonomic designs such as plastic ones will be more efficient to use. If you are going to buy a metal watering can and require an even and efficient water flow, I would spend more money on a higher quality one because this one does not perform well.

Leaks!
15 January 2021

I was given one of these watering cans as a gift after my previous painted metal one finally started to rust after years of use. Filled the new can with water. Leaks from base of spout. My gift giver returned it to a Bunnings store and it was replaced. On my first fill of the new watering can I find it also leaks from the base of the spout. I don't have the receipt. I don't like to bother my gift giver again. I checked the Holman web site and many reviews there also complain of similar leaks. Bunnings have done the right thing but the product is just no good.

Leaky can
13 September 2022

Had my can 2 weeks and it leaked from bottom of spout. I was filling it up each evening to find it almost empty in the morning with a large wet patch beneath it. Picked it up by the handle to take it back to Bunnings and the handle fell off! Will buy a quality can online.

Not “durable and robust” in the slightest
8 March 2023

This is my second time buying this watering can. Fool me once.. when it started leaking, I gave benefit of the doubt and bought another. Fool me twice.. the second lasted even less time before leaking and is now completely rusted at the base inside. Spent the extra money, compared to a plastic watering can thinking it’d be longer lasting and better for the environment. Far from it. Will not be buying again!

Poor riveting on the handle
20 March 2022

The can is OK (I have a green one in the same style), but when you pick it up, make sure it is not above your feet. One year after purchase, with the can still in excellent condition, I picked it up empty one morning and the handle came off in my hand, with the rest of the can crashing onto the ground. Closer inspection revealed that the handle had been attached with pop rivets, with very inadequate flanging. If the handle comes off when full you could have almost 10kg falling onto your foot! I reported this to Holman, who kindly offered me a new watering can, but with no new warranty. Does not display much confidence in their product! There was also a requirement that the old one be destroyed, which I find wastefuI as it can easily be repaired with proper rivets. Possible accident
24 October 2022

I bought this can maybe 3 months ago. Today while watering a pot plant, the handles popped off the nearly full can which fell onto the top of my foot. Obvious potential for serious injury which was thankfully avoided by sturdy gardening shoes. The small plastic rivets are not adequate!
