Honeycomb Alpha Flight Controls - Yoke & Switch Panel
It was designed to meet the needs of flight simulator users, flight students, and pilots. All internal components are made to aviation quality and provide a realistic flying experience with ergonomic design. The high-quality mechanics offer a realistic full 180° rotation for the aileron control with a self-centering mechanism that has no dead zone. In the longitudinal direction, the steel shaft allows for a movement range of 15 cm. The mechanism is entirely made of metal, ensuring long durability. The yoke features a switch panel with battery and alternator switches, avionics master switch, and light switches. It is equipped with red LED backlighting, making it easy to operate at night. There is also an ignition switch, as is common in piston-engine aircraft. The left grip has two buttons, two 2-way hat switches, and a push-to-talk button, while the right grip features two additional 2-way hat switches, an 8-way hat switch, and a button. Thanks to a suitable mount, the Alpha Flight Controls are compatible with both Honeycomb and Saitek products. The included driver and configuration software provides individual profile settings for different aircraft and is compatible with Windows and macOS.

Were there force feedback features, would be a near perfect one. I haven't used it for very long until now so I can't comment on its durability over a long period of time, which is in fact relevant to many of the products in this market. The yoke is fairly simple to use and its manual is useful but not very necessary. The great amount of thought put into this product is evident, in terms of the attachment mechanism (which is made to suit wooden surfaces by clamp or glass surfaces by a surprisingly strong suction plate), button placement, structural design (which makes the yoke very comfortable to hold) and material usage (also contributes to comfort). The motion range is indeed 180 for ailerons and the longitudinal motion range is in total about 8 cm forward and aft ... MoreWere there force feedback features, would be a near perfect one. The motion range is indeed 180 for ailerons and the longitudinal motion range is in total about 8 cm forward and aft by my own measurement, which is proper. The clamp itself should have been a bit bigger in size, it was in fact just a milimeter short of matching the thickness of my own wooden desk. Still, were it greatly bigger it would keep bumping into your legs (especially if you're using rudder pedals. In terms of leg space from the clamp I do find it somewhat problematic to try and use the clamp while sitting in a height such that my elbows are at 90 while holding the yoke at a centered position, and with rudder pedals - and I'm not sure if the problem is in the chair height, and still it's not really annoying. Works smoothly with MSFS 2020, I didn't encounter any issues there.

Recieved the product in a very short shipment time (from USA to Israel). Very easy set-up, altho it requires a lot of desk space, and the flight experience in the simulator is the best you can get. The controls are very responsive and provide a very nice feedback. There is no mechanized feedback flight sim controller on the market at this price point, and in my opinion this is the best you can get. You can verify this by looking at other online reviews of the product. Highly recommended.

A flight student of mine is just getting into flight sims (MSFS) to supplement his learning instrument flying. He was looking at generic toy joysticks when I invited him to try my Alpha and Bravo setup (with Thrustmaster rudder pedals reviewed separately) and fell in love with these. I've had a set since they first came out and love them. The combination of basic controls, realistic switches on the Alpha, convertibility for the Bravo (anything and everything from a Cessna 152 to a Boeing 747) and the built-in autopilot functions on the Bravo add up to a terrific package. Buying as a bundle saves money too.

I did a lot of research, watched YouTube videos etc.; you name it before buying this yoke. As other yokes are either triple the price, or significantly less, the Honeycomb yoke really hits the sweet spot. Initial thoughts are that this yoke is truly mispriced and has the quality and feel of a $400+ yoke. It is really amazing what the Honeycomb team has come up with here in terms of quality and value. Externally, the yoke has a rubberized texture and film coating giving the surfaces a smooth feel, and one which will be easy to clean. Ill note that the push/pull it outstanding and there is no detent like you would get on cheaper set-ups. Although the attitude range is a full 180 I don't think that's a huge deal, but then again if your practicing spin out recovery ... MoreI did a lot of research, watched YouTube videos etc.; you name it before buying this yoke. Although the attitude range is a full 180 I don't think that's a huge deal, but then again if your practicing spin out recovery etc...it is a big deal. This is something not available in other lower yokes. I've also heard people argue that you could save $100 dollars by getting the Logitech/Saitek but in my opinion you aren't saving anything. As the Honeycomb comes with a built in panel as well, that's another $150 your saving right there alone. Do the math-that comes out to $50 cheaper than the lower priced set-up with a multi-panel. I will also say that set-up was simple. No sooner did I plug this in with he provided cables, MSFS2020 recognized the yoke and I was off flying an approach into Sedona. I want to note that when I say set-up I mean including the panel switch configuration set-up as well. MSFS knows its there, and you can easily access and configure the buttons to your choosing if you don't like the out of box set-up in the options menu. I loved this so much after I received it and experienced the Honeycomb quality that I ordered the Bravo Throttle Quadrant. I'm now debating waiting for the rudder pedals as well as I am so impressed. Second thought. B&H was a first time order for me. I was impressed with them as well. Online web ordering system was eazy peazy, and shockingly they sent the yoke to me FedEx air for free (based on $ amount of course), and it was literally at my door within 4 days of ordering (Arizona). I think that's worth noting as I've always seen the adds for B&H and thought that's to good to be true; well it was true. If B&H continues to have good prices they've earned my business for sure. Final note-this yoke was out of stock or delayed everywhere when I submitted my order. Apparently B&H has such an industry presence that they were able to attain stock and fill orders-including mine. This shows a long standing customer client relationship which again, means B&H can fulfil orders that others just cannot within reason.
Very pleased with my purchase of the Honeycomb Alpha Yoke. I got it to upgrade from the Saitek yoke that was annoying because of the huge indent in the middle of the shaft which made it impossible for smooth landings. The Alpha yoke has no indents so very smooth and realistic flying in both GA and jets.Overall quality looks excellent as well. The extra switches and key switch is a nice bonus, but the smooth yoke was enough for me. Delivery was also bang on time from Might Ape evening express.
First the service from Scan, top notch and actually arrived 2 weeks earlier than given which was a nice surprise. I have taken a star away for the following reason. Once I'd setup the yoke and tested the movement back/forward I could detect and hear a slightly loud 'clicking' & feel a slight bit of resistance when pushing the yoke forward. Something similar to how a spring would feel if it was clicking. This did not feel right and rather than use the yoke 'not knowing' and also having to go through the pain of returning it I decided to open it up to investigate. Kudos to Honeycomb for at least making that easy. What I discovered was that from the rotary switch on the front panel there is a ribbon cable that subsequently attaches it to a bit of PCB towards the rear ... MoreFirst the service from Scan, top notch and actually arrived 2 weeks earlier than given which was a nice surprise. This did not feel right and rather than use the yoke 'not knowing' and also having to go through the pain of returning it I decided to open it up to investigate. Kudos to Honeycomb for at least making that easy. What I discovered was that from the rotary switch on the front panel there is a ribbon cable that subsequently attaches it to a bit of PCB towards the rear of the chassis. This ribbon cable had not been secured properly and had drifted across to slightly contact the yoke mechanism when it was pushed forward. All it needed was to slightly tighten the cable-tie attaching the ribbon cable to its mounting and problem solved. I'm glad I did this as it would surely have been A/ really annoying and B/ Would probably have broken the ribbon cable after repeated snags on the yoke, resulting in a certain RMA. Perhaps the rush to get these out resulted in the build being a little hurried , all good in the end though. Aside from that initial disappointment I am extremely pleased with the functionality of the flight controls. There are so many different ways to configure it and the added control you get with the feel of the yoke plus the vast array of control options make it something that genuinely enhances my flight sim experience. Also a plus is that there's no power supply required, just needs a USB, I would like to be able to set the LED colour but they are not so bright that they're a bother. I've had no 'dead zone' issues that some seem to have mentioned. Value for money, a tricky one. In reality it's a fairly simple device but I guess that's also part of the value, I never find myself having to think when using it and flying has become second nature. A real pleasure to use. 5 Stars for functionality 4 Stars for the QC issues 4.5 Stars VFM
Pros: Excellent handling. Beautiful in the 'Flare' with no balooning. The feel of the yoke is excellent too. It also rotates 90 degrees left and right! ("My CH Pro Yoke only rotates 45 degrees either side!") The desk clamps are solid steel and not plastic! The cabinet itself is solid top quality. Cons: The yoke 'Pitch' resistance is far too heavy. It's what I would expect to find in something like a fully laden Lancaster Bomber. ("The pilot often got the engineer to help him pull back the yoke on takeoff!") At the same time, the 'Roll' resistance is completely linear if any. In the real aircraft as in Pitch, resistance should increase with application. Unless of course you are still on the ground!
Pros: I bought this device to replace a Saitek Cessna controller. The quality of the Honeycomb controller is much better. It is very well made . My only criticism is the elevator axis is too stiff. I understand it is controlled with bungees that will get better over time. They are not adjustable Cons: I am a real life pilot and can see the force required to use the elevator axis is unrealistic . There should be some form of adjustment for this in later models. I still give the product 10 for quality
Compared with the entry level yokes from other suppliers, the mechanism on this yoke is smooth and precise. The turning angle is also more realistic going a full 180 degrees to the right and to the left. Installation is easy, the manual explaining the installation is repetitive but clear. The anchoring mechanism is too good. Once clamped in place the yoke will not move. When the clamp is used with the sticky pad it becomes impossible to remove. The switches are not as substantial as Logitech switches and their location is awkward and not realistic. The gimmicky LED lights are annoying. They can be turned off but come on everytime the simulator is restarted. Never the less, the yoke is worth the money and it adds realism to the simulation.
I bought this yoke to replace my old Logitech flight yoke. We are using these in a class where we give high school students an intro to being a pilot. After trying the Alpha Yoke out in class, I bought one for myself. This is a much better built, smoother yoke than the Logitech and a nice complement to the Honeycomb Bravo Throttle quadrant. A bonus is the extra switches you have on the yoke, for turning on/off the battery, alternator, and electronics. Additionally it has a switch for magnetos. You also have a row of switches for aircraft lights. The Alpha XPC yoke works with both PC and XBox. I use a PC for MSFS 2020, so I really didn't need the XBox compatibility, but I liked the fact that it had a spring load for magneto switch. If you only use a PC and don't want ... MoreI bought this yoke to replace my old Logitech flight yoke. We are using these in a class where we give high school students an intro to being a pilot.
