A great product which looks stunning with the see-through grey design and Zelda artwork. My mistake in not seeing on the image that it is for hand held use only which means that this controller cannot be used independently. I bought this because my Left controller was having connection issues and figured this was a cheap solution however due to the above, I will still need to another controller to get the full capabilities out of a switch. A great buy but disappointed I didn't take more care in reading.

This affordable accessory is a must have if you can't stand the directional buttons on the standard Joy Con. The D-pad is awesome and reminds me of the D-pad on the Snes controller. EXCELLENT!

A Surprisingly Good & Inexpensive Straight Razor.

Im a 60+ guy thats been shaving with a straight razor for about 2 years now. Straight razor shaving is an adventure as well as a manly art that, once mastered, will put the polish on your masculine ego. I currently own eight straight razors of various styles and vintages. I search eBay and the Internet on a regular basis to acquaint myself with the various styles, manufacturers and prices of straight razors. I came across this straight razor and was attracted by the appearance as well as the inexpensive cost. It was fairly well photographed by the vendor and so gave a pretty good idea what was being offered. Overall, I find this SR appealing to the eye. The Spanish Point style of the blade was something I, as a novice, have not tried. Its a little trickier to use than a more rounded blade so rookies beware! Your experience may be more sanguine than you had hoped for. The blade is full-hollow ground which makes it super thin and light. The vendor states in the description that it is made of carbon steel but having no experience in metallurgy Ill have to take him at his word. Vintage straight razors are commonly made of carbon steel and it seems, by far, to be preferred over stainless steel. The etching (?) on the blade Cutthroat Gents is attractive and appealed to me. There are no makers marks on the tang, no indication of where or by whom they were manufactured. No matter. Made in China would be a pretty good guess. The scales are a pearlized plastic material purported to be Italian. Who knows? Again, Ill take the vendors word for it...I dont care where they came from, they look nice enough. The scales pinning could have been a little fancier for my tastes but theyre ok, does the job of securely holding the scales together. Okay, so Ill give it a A- on appearance and price but those arent worth a damned if it doesnt shave well! So heres my observation on the matter. It arrived sharp but not shave-ready sharp. I really didnt expect it to. Even well known manufacturers of renowned straight razors dont sharpen their blades to shave-ready sharpness. This, dear customer, is left up to you to do. If you have any SR honing skills then you will finish the edge to your satisfaction. If you dont hone your own razors then you will have to send your razor out to someone who does. If you try to shave with this SR as is you will be disappointed! It will not shave you well (if at all) and you may think its junk and you wasted $20 bucks. Get it well and properly honed and you may have a different (hopefully better) opinion. Unless of course you are new at straight razor shaving and your technique sucks and you cut your face to ribbons! But that, my friends, is a different matter. Taking a chance, I plunked down the $20 and ordered this SR. If it did not live up to my expectations, at worst I would have been disappointed and out a lousy 20 bucks. It was worth a shot. So I sent away for it and it arrived in my mailbox quickly. From the envelope I could tell that Amazon had a hand in this. Being the kind of guy that likes to be as self-reliant as possible in most matters, I had previously purchased the necessary honing stones to hone my own razors. A 3000/8000 grit combination stone ($30) and a 12000 grit finishing stone ($90) and Im set for life. You can purchase more stones and pay a ton of money for them (jnats!) but you dont have to. I honed this straight razor on my finishing stone and, with time, patience and perseverance, I was able to put a highly polished, super-sharp edge on this inexpensive razor. I finished the job with a thorough stropping, first on pasted canvas then on leather...man, that cutting edge gleamed! And the razor shaved like a champ! My beard is only moderately heavy and I usually shave every two or three days. I was pleased with the outcome of my shave and so, all in all, I am pleased with this purchase. It was a small gamble but it paid off (this time). I have made this razor a part of my regular rotation. This worked out for me. Your experience, for one reason or another, may differ. If I does, I hope it is for the better and not the worse. Good luck to all you manly men who choose to shave with a straight razor...youre a cut above the rest! Uncle Dano

A+ product - for those who read the box.
2 November 2021

This controller is ONLY for use in HANDHELD mode. It says so on the box. You cannot unplug it and use it wirelessly. When used correctly, it works just as well as, if not better than, the Nintendo standard JoyCon. The D-pad is invaluable for classic gaming. The design is neat too, looks great paired with just about any right JoyCon but my orange one is a particularly nice match. Once more for the people at the back: HANDHELD ONLY. Failing to read the box is not a good reason to downrate a perfectly functional HANDHELD ONLY controller.

Best D-pad I've EVER used
17 September 2019

Brilliant. The dpad is firm, responsive, tactile. It feels very similar to the PS4 dpad (it is not clicky, like the 3DS or 4 way button on the original joycon). The absolute best D-pad I've ever used. I'm saying EVER. Better than the Switch Pro controller; 3DS; SNES; xbox; gameboy; DS etc. Even surpasses my old favourite - the Dualshock4 d-pad. Too bad it's only on a small joycon. Wish it could replace the mediocre NS Pro controller. Other than that, negatives. No HD rumble. No gyro. Handheld mode only. No internal battery. Feels too lightweight. And, the minus button is this rubber mushy thing that is hard to press. Lots of negatives, but still gave it 5 stars because the D-pad is LEGIT!

Better, but not great
27 January 2019

I wasn’t crazy about the 4-button left JoyCon D-pad layout for all of the 2D games I play on the Switch (in handheld mode), so I figured I’d give this a shot. While the Hori option is a step in the right direction, it still felt pretty uncomfortable for me. The D-pad is too low in my opinion, and would be substantially better if it was moved up to where the analog stick is currently located. People are buying this specifically for the D-pad, so why not put it in the most comfortable position where your thumb rests naturally??? Hopefully that’s something Hori will consider in the future.

Cheap, knockoff joycon that broke almost immediately
21 December 2019

Nintendo joycons are known for having "joycon drift" which essentially makes the stick not function and get stuck towards one side. It makes it so the joycon detects movement even without input. My joycon that came with my nintendo switch began experiencing this problem until it became completely stuck to one side, so I bought this new joycon to replace it. After a few hours of using it, this HORI D-Pad joycon is already worse. The drift is far worse and it is internal so I cannot even attempt to fix it. There is permanent drift so I cannot even play any games if this joycon is attached to my switch. I can't remove the stick or make it so it at least does not produce input. Terrible purchase, I cannot believe nintendo licenses this product. They make it look and feel nice but upon further inspection it is a knockoff joycon that is made with cheap material. Do not buy just because the price is good and it looks like it is real.

Good Joycon with D-pad
7 June 2019

This only works in portable mode but lets be honest thats probably what you bought it for anyway. Pro controller is the best way to play docked. This is nearly identical to the original joycon minus the fact that its a bit liter and has an actual D-pad instead of the four little buttons the default pad has. If you are playing any type of side scroller and don't like using the joystick this product is a must. The d-pad on it is very good and reminds me of a SNES controller. Lets me play games on the go much more comfortably. Recommended A+

Great product, despite its limitations.
26 December 2018

As long as you know what you're getting into, with this product missing key features like wireless, motion and rumble, meaning it's only usable in handheld mode, for what it is this is a very solid piece of kit. The presence of a good quality d-pad more than makes up for its limited functionality. And yes, that all important d-pad is pretty good. It has much more travel than the directional buttons, but it's still very responsive, and it's comfortable to use for long play sessions. It even passes the "Hadouken test". The build quality is acceptable, though it's not as good as the official Joy-Con, but the biggest downside has to be the soft rubber minus and capture buttons. These aren't as easy to press as the official Joy-Con's hard plastic ones. great controller
3 June 2022

for the past year I've been suffering from Joycon drift, a pretty bad case of it at that. I wanted to get away from it for so long that I finally caved in and bought one of these, namely the black and gold one with pikachu on it. i have to say, good way to play my switch in handheld mode, as i only ever really put my switch in the dock to charge. i will say that the build feels a little cheap, but the D-pad feels so much better than the four individual buttons on a normal official joycon. and honestly, anything is better than having Joycon Drift issues, and i can look past the Handheld mode only thing about this product because it looks great on my switch. great looking product, my only complaint being how cheap the material feels. that is all.
