Normal Hornby Railroad item with no bells or whistles but for the money is good value. Sadly it was cheaper to get this as a replacement for a damaged one my Wife had for years from her Dad.

Of the large locomotives that I have purchased over 4-4-0 size this is the first one that will work on my layout. The only item I do think that could be improved by Hornby is the poor flimsy connector for the tender. Surely after all these years there must be a better way than a cheap piece of plastic with a hole to hook on to a plastic peg under the locomotive. Having said that the locomotive looks very good and runs well pulling a rake of 4 carriages even up an incline without effort.

This is a wonderful train and runs beautifully around my layout, I got her in the Black Friday sales for £50 but she is definitely worth the £85 normal price. I have two issues and one is the fact that it is rather hard to get the loco out of the box and after buying a brand new product, you don't want to break it. The other issue which may just be the case with mine but when it is ran at full speed it makes a funny noise. Overall this is a wonderful product and would recommend it to everyone who is interested in Hornby.

This is a terrific runner. I had a previous Flying Scotsman; also a railroad model but it struggled to pull 4 coaches up a curved incline on a club layout. My current loco can pull 12 coaches on the same layout. The new version has much better traction. Runs well on DCC and has good low speed performance. Overall very pleased.
This is a fine locomotive. The motor is powerful and quiet, and the mechanism runs smoothly. The body casting is cleanly and nicely decorated. For those intending to install a DCC decoder, beware: There is precious little space inside the body shell, and the selection of 8-pin decoders is limited. The Hornby site has a helpful tutorial on decoder installation, but the directions don't specify the decoder used.
The only problem I experienced was that when I connected up my 2 original controllers....as soon as the track got its first small dose of current, the loco immediately started moving at say "half speed" then thru to full speed and likewise as you reduced the current. To overcome this I ended up purchasing a second hand "clipper" controller with a WAVE switch and a RESISTANCE switch. The performance of the loco was then excellent. PS..the underside of the loco said made in China.
Remarkable model considering the fact that Hornby's steam locomotives are a bit short on detail which, instead display model (such as my own) is a fault. As a running model, it performs well although I have not subjeted it to extensive testing. The most annoying fact is that, despite modelled brackets for the head lamps, these are missing. The placement of these lamps in front of the the British locomotives, indicated the type of train the locomotive was a part of, and their lack in a model, especially a running one, is a major drawback. The lamps were distinctly different from the fixed front lights used in the continental engines, and using substitutes from the spare-part box will not solve the problen. Hopefully, Hornby will address the issue which affects almost ... MoreRemarkable model considering the fact that Hornby's steam locomotives are a bit short on detail which, instead display model (such as my own) is a fault. Not having run it yet because of extensive reconstruction of my rail network I can’t give a full review but from its appearance it looks fantastic and the details are excellent, so if it runs as good as it looks it will be fun to use!
exactly as described. mint condition. ran well on smallhornby track. made my grandson ecstatic
the hornby railroad Flying Scotsman is just the job, it does not have parts that can fall off. its got a good motor which is in the loco, this particular loco was from Empirewharehouse and it only cost 65 pounds ! as usual with model locos handle with care, this not a toy ! performance is good, the loco included a instuction sheet with it.all in all the loco is Top of the Pops, 10 out of 10
