As I had brought this for a Christmas present for my partner who is obsessed with Iron maiden this product was perfect. However the packaging it’s self (the box) came crushed and I have had to sellotape the box back together which was a little disappointing as I am giving this as a gift :(

Just purchased two sets and have opened one. Nice model for the money BUT 3 of the 4 bogies on the power cars needed the axles reset in position and retaining plate clipped back. The pickups also needed repositioning. This is train set destined to be used by children not modellers......and if my experience is common then there will be many delayed and cancelled trains on Christmas morning!!! QC needs to be addressed Hornby, Easy fix but disappointing when you lift the the power cars out and leave the wheels in the tray, young modellers will get turned off the hobby if they cant play trains out of the box.We also need the key to part numbers and spares to be available Hornby.....
A great, inexpensive way of adding to your collection. This isn't the utmost realistic but it captures their detail and styling well. Very rigid construction, so would be perfect if starting out.
Only ran mine on DC but find that there is only the driving end, motor carriage headlights stay on once power is applied in fwd and reverse no red lights, the trailing carriage has no lights at all, even hornbys old 125 model had properly working directional lighting at both ends, I am impressed with the way it runs at slow speed very smooth, and at full power it fairly flies even had me thinking about backing off the power at some point, but seems to stay on the track very well when taking 2nd radius curves very smoothly. When I first unpacked the model I found one of the bogies came off and on the trailing carriage one of the axles dropped off with the axle locating plate hanging down but it easily went back together.as other people have already said about axles ... MoreOnly ran mine on DC but find that there is only the driving end, motor carriage headlights stay on once power is applied in fwd and reverse no red lights, the trailing carriage has no lights at all, even hornbys old 125 model had properly working directional lighting at both ends, I am impressed with the way it runs at slow speed very smooth, and at full power it fairly flies even had me thinking about backing off the power at some point, but seems to stay on the track very well when taking 2nd radius curves very smoothly. Great starter set. Basic model but little to get damaged. Better looking model than the cover picture (what a waste Mr Hornby!).
Great model, good quality however the coach provided does not match the separate purchase ones. One is Matt and a the other Gloss so together they look odd… maybe make them the same? One of the couplings were broken on the coach included in the set as well.A really nice set and would have been 5 stars however the difference between the set/coach and the other coaches available to buy separately lets it down massively.
I bought this for my sons 8th birthday and he opened it, expecting to play with his new train which he has been looking forward to for a long time. The adaptor didn't work, therefore unable to charge trains. Disappointed
I once wrote that a Hornby train pack was over priced and got no end of thumbs down. Well I'm back with this as the best £120 you will ever spend on trains.Start breaking down what you get here and it is no only great value for money but so much for your money. I love the HST cars and I couldn't believe they were also DCC ready. Keep the cheap sets coming Hornby, it gets more people into the hobby.
