Awful
I don’t usually leave reviews but felt compelled to do so….As lipsticks go this is the worst one I have ever had in recent times. While it has the appearance of being hydrating it is entirely the opposite. It dried out my lips to the point they were sore after a whole days’ wear. Being a satin meant that it required constant reapplication and had I not used it I would have returned it. The colour is beautiful but not hyper pigmented meaning it needed to be lathered on to my light brown skin which felt like going back in time as far as make up is concerned! The price is also not justified as the lipstick itself is smaller than the norm. The shape/ design of the actual lipstick holder whilst unusual and fun was fiddly and impractical. Diffused colour, fab finish, not drying
Hourglass do it again - this is an innovative formula, a true matte without being drying. I had shade 360 ‘Lush’ which is a bricky, raspberry red shade. I’d say for a darker colour in the range lipliner is a must - it looks much more polished with liner. I didn’t find it drying at all, which I usually do and usually avoid a matte.Others loved the metallic magnetic case -I’m not so sure, it does close with a satisfying ‘click’ but I found it hard to line it up correctly. It’s pricy but a little goes a LONG way. The finish is chic and very sophisticated. The colour sort of diffuses and looks soft, it’s not a heavy lipstick at all. Can be layered with a balm underneath or not - it wasn’t essential.... Show more

Good matte option
I was sent a sample of red 0 to review. Usually not a fan of either warm reds or matte lipsticks as I have super dry lips and am pretty pale. This colour is pretty great- you can build it up to give almost a gothic red, or lightly apply for just a flush in a way that surprised me how universally flattering it was. I took it to dinner with friends and it didn’t stay through many courses, but wore gently. Would withstand a martini and a canapé or three. The big question- is it drying? I found it showed my odd flake (that I thought I had sorted) but adding an extra layer fixed that. The next day I would say my lips were dryer than if I had worn my usual moisturising lip- but not catastrophically so- so as a non matte lover, I would reach for this again.... Show more

great for dry lips
As a person with dry skin (especially in these winter months, brr!) I see and appreciate the effort Hourglass put in to make this matte lipstick as comfortable as possible. Upon my first application, I found myself thinking, "wait, this is matte?!" It feels great to apply and does not tug, and there is almost a hint of a sheen in the first few minutes after applying (think semi-matte). I believe this experience is a result of the so-called "primer-infused" formula. It really is a step up for my skin type!In time, the matte nature of the product did come through, but it never felt as uncomfortable as the majority of matte lipsticks. It seems to have somewhat of a blurring effect on my lips in addition to the comfort levels. As a matte, it also stayed on my lips ... It seems to have somewhat of a blurring effect on my lips in addition to the comfort levels. As a matte, it also stayed on my lips better than a satin finish, albeit this is where I was able to experience a hint of dryness. Again, it took time for this characteristic to reveal itself, so if you have very dry lips, you might want to keep a balm around to add on top (especially towards the 3-4 hour mark). Overall, I do find the formula to be special! As for the color, I chose "Tigerlily", hoping for a coral pink that would work on my fair skin tone. I am very glad I opted for a shade that looked a bit deeper, as in person, it is perfect! If possible, I would swatch these in store, but if not, my suggestion is to go a bit deeper in shade than you think. Finally, there is only one real critique that I have of this product, and it might be a me issue. I love the magnetic enclosure, but I admit my clumsy nature seems to struggle with capping this lipstick!? I suppose I will get the hang of it in time; in the meantime, be sure you've rolled the lipstick all the way down in the packaging before closing it in order to prevent any mishaps with the tip.Overall, great formula for dry lips.... I am in love with this lipstick
I am already a fan of the unlocked satin range so was keen to try this as I find matte lipsticks to be very drying - especially on older, drier lips. I was very pleased to find out the formula is, like the satin range, very hydrating.I bought the orchid shade, then I went back to the store for sparrow and red 0. Not only is it hydrating it wears really, really well and I don't seem to get that unsightly lipstick transfer onto the teeth. Usually I have to do the O trick and a second blot, but with this I just need to do the initial blot. As others have mentioned though, makes sure you exfoliate your lips regularly if you are going to wear matte lipsticks. they will really show up flaking skin.I hope Hourglass brings out more shades in this range.... Incredible, comfortable matte formula
I’m in love with this matte formula! It’s so pigmented and long wearing. Though this is a bullet formula, I get hours of wear even with eating and constant water drinking. The shade Foxglove is described as a berry rose, and I would say that’s fairly accurate. This is a great shade for someone who likes the idea of red lipstick but is scared to wear it or feels like it looks too much on them. It’s also just a nice “everyday” shade for someone like me who doesn’t mind wearing bold shades. The bullet shape can be a bit finicky if you don’t line your lips, but that’s about my only complaint and I have the same complaints about every other lipstick in this bullet shape. This is my favorite type of matte formula—super plush on the lips.... Show more

Lightweight
I was fortunate to receive it as a gift to try, although Orchid isn't my usual shade. Surprisingly, it's not as intimidating once applied, reminiscent of a deeper Bond girl from Charlotte Tilbury with a touch of brown tones. The packaging, especially the magnetic lid design, is lovely, although the lid's weight doesn't feel very luxurious to me.As for the lipstick, it's lightweight and lives up to its long-lasting claim. However, it falls short of being my favorite matte formula for two reasons: 1) Unlike some of my preferred matte lipsticks, such as Pat McGrath where one layer is sufficient, it’s not highly pigmented. Some may appreciate the option to layer for their desired color. 2) It accentuates the texture of my lips, possibly due to the shade. I would ... Love this rich lipstick!
This lipstick is so beautiful all around! The lipstick is encased in a beautiful heavyweight case. The tube is so unique and has a high quality feel to it. The lipstick is highly pigmented and lasts longer than most lipsticks I’ve had. While I’m applying, it feels a little stiff and I am afraid that I might break it if I use too much pressure. However, once it’s applied, it feels so creamy on my lips; surprisingly so for a matte lipstick. I like how soft and hydrating it makes my lips feel too. The shade I selected, Lush, is a rich, warm reddish brown shade. I’d describe it as sienna. I am very happy with this lipstick formula!... Show more

Moisturising lipstick
I bought this in store in shade Alpine. I use it two ways. Either on its own or over a very matt lipstick to give it a bit more staying power. If you use it on its own, even with a good primer it doesn't stay on very well when you eat of drink, having said that the happens with all moisturising lipsticks! The colour is wonderful though - hourglass lipstick pigments are great and easy to match to skin tones, with a good choice of colours too. I will buy again as I don't mind reapplying lipstick. My only quibble (and I haven't used this against th rating as the product itself is so good!) is that the lid only goes back on a set way so you have to fiddle to put if back on again. So feedback hopefully to sort that out!... Show more

Smooth application and offers buildable coverage
I am truly impressed with this matte lipstick's luxurious and velvety texture. It effortlessly glides onto my lips, providing a smooth application. The vibrant soft matte finish offers buildable full-coverage, and I love how weightless it feels. I can wear it all day without experiencing any dryness. The sleek and travel-friendly packaging includes a gold magnetic case adorned with the Unlocked symbol. The custom bullet shape allows for precise application. Foxglove, the shade I chose, is absolutely stunning and complements any outfit or occasion.... Show more
