I waited until the second book came out to star this one. and boy was I happy I did. I blew through this book, and instantly started the second one. I mean the last hundred pages, crying. Like a baby. Also Sarah, how dare you in the first hundred as well. very rude.

This series is definitely Maas’ most adult series but I really love it. Similar character to her others but I like the familiarity of it. I like that there are a lot of characters to grow attached to but not too many that it’s easy to forget them all. Another great world that she has built.

I’ve read a lot of books in my time, and while initially the beginning confused me (having never read anything from the author before) in SO glad I stuck with it. I’ve never found an author who is so aware of her charters and can plot build like this. The number of twists and turns is insane! The character development is next level! I’ve already reread the book 3 times and I still love it just as much

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate Bryce and all that she has gone through like this girl is a survivor if I ever saw one. Anyway, love this book Sarah has done it again, from the world building to the sexual tension between Hunt and Bryce is like mind blowing. Also, just the development of events towards the end "Chef's kiss" and I just love a mystery. All the things I love about fantasy, mystery and a taboo relationship is in Crescent City. 100% would recommend.

I'm so glad I stuck this out, if this was any other author besides Sarah J Maas, I would of DNF by like 20%. I was so lost and bored the first part of the book, that I put it down and didn't pick it up again for awhile. I wish it was edited better so it wouldn't lose so many readers at the beginning. I love that it was set in more of a modern fantasy world instead of just straight up fantasy that she normally writes. I really loved the characters and I appreciate that Bryce was written differently then both Aelin and Feyre. Hunt is just fine imo, I'm not as into him as I am the other leading guys from her books, but it's only book 1 so I'm sure I'll get there :) I listened to the audiobook and of course Elizabeth Evans did an amazing job. She's a perfect narrator!

If you're not a reader (or if you are) it's easy to be intimidated by this near 800-page tome. Thankfully, the daunting thickness of this book was negated by the fact that I purchased it online. Because had I not taken the plunge into this richly imagined world, it would have been a sad loss (I could hardly put it down, even as my eyes were drifting shut at 2 o'clock in the morning). The main characters Bryce and Hunt, (though moody and infuriating) are real people with complex emotions. Their banter was hilarious! The story was full of heart without being sappy and I did appreciate that the relationship at the centre of the story wasn't a romantic one - that is was about Bryce and the lengths she was willing to go to for her fallen best friend. The only downside to this book is that I now have to wait for the sequel. Also, as a side note: most inventive use of a vacuum cleaner in a novel.

Beautiful cover and compelling story

If you have the money to splurge on this beauty I would highly recommend as the cover art is impeccable. As for the story it does take a bit to get into compared to her previous works. There is very complex world building in the beginning that can be confusing but the further along you get in the book the more accustomed you become. The main protagonist I can understand why some people wouldn't particularly like her as her character does have some rough edges, particularly in the beginning, but like many other great books you get to see her character develop and you grow to like her. She's a self assured and confident woman, which is something we don't get to see often. Definitely not a damsel in distress.Highly recommend if you don't mind the complex world ... MoreIf you have the money to splurge on this beauty I would highly recommend as the cover art is impeccable. Couldn't put this book down.

Upon receiving the book the 800 odd pages left me startled and procrastinating starting the read. I was expecting to have to drag out this read and just get it over and done with so as to not waste my money. However, I have never read a book of this size so bloody quickly. The definition of a page-turner. With an ever-thickening plot and what seems to be never-ending character developments, one can find themselves very quickly submerged into the starkly unique world of Crescent City. Maas has created a world where the reader can find similarities to our own world, allowing for deeper connections, often subliminal, between readers and characters and the socio-political space we both exist within to emerge. Now it's onto book #2 in the Cresent City world.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

Seriously, if you like any of SJMs other books, you'll love this one too.The world is a little different, with a modern world (cars, phones, internet) but with fae and other mythical creatures. I wasn't sure if I would love that, but I really did. Made it very easy to imagine. It was a rollercoaster (just like the rest of her books) but a very lovelable one.If you're a fan of ACOTAR then you NEED to read this series.

One of the best books I've ever read
18 May 2023

This book is amazing!! I have recommended it to every single friend I have and still feel like more people should read it. If you're a fan of Sarah J Maas this series will be no different to the addictive likes of ACOTAR and TOG, but with modern elements that really help switch it up. I reminded me a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with all the mishmash of magical creatures and a strong feminine lead that isn't afraid to get her hands dirty to protect those she loves! 10/10 I wish I could read it for the first time again.
