Best all-around sauce

Feels like this one is under-appreciated. Very garlic-forward (which i love), nice touch of vinegar tartness, great consistency. Truly the ideal for pizza, but is balanced enough flavor-wise that you could put it on just about anything. Some sauces are only good for specialized applications - not so with Howler Monkey. I've repeat-bought this more than any other sauce on Heatonist.

Good Entry-Level Sauce

I'm trying to train myself to eat spicier foods, and this was the very first sauce bought to start with. I got lucky and it happened to be quite close to my upper limit. It's a vinegar based sauce, so its flavor is relatable to Tabasco, which I'm sure we've all tried, but I think the flavor is MUCH better than Tabasco. Regrettably, it has the same stupid plastic hole dispenser thing as Tabasco, which drives me insane because it's a horrendous design that always dispenses too much when you only want a bit, and never gives you enough when you want a lot. Overall, I'm not buying more (I think I prefer something thicker), but this is definitely a good place to start, I think.

Literally the only reason I am addicted to chicken tenders. Top Chick and Howler Monkey all day!!! Tried manny sauces but this one and original, especially Garlic Fresco, are the best! Bathe the Chicken Tenders in them, or eggs, pizza, tacos, hamburgers... or just eat out of a spoon

Hands down, one of the best sauces that I have tried from Heatonist. It is awesome on my chicken based dishes. I like a sauce that subtly adds heat, without overpower the flavours of the meal. I will buy this one again!

Meh. Too Liquidy.
30 March 2021

I'm not saying it's bad tasting, per se. My issue is moreso how liquidy the sauce is and how large of an opening the bottle has. It kind of just dribbles out of the bottle (as opposed to Tobasco which you can shake onto whatever). I haven't found a good use for it yet, due to the liquidy consistency, and therefore, I can't give it a higher review. Perhaps if they change the bottle design in the future I'd find it better. If you're a fan of thicker sauces, go elsewhere.

On my hot sauce Mt Rushmore
12 November 2018

Wow, the flavor on this sauce, it's addicting. The bright vinegary, scotch bonnet flavor is just amazing. It makes my mouth water just smelling it. I put it on everything, pizza, tacos, wings, soups, you name it. My ONLY complaint about it is that it's pretty watery and it just pours out of the bottle in a semi-controlled fashion. It tastes so good it's not really a detriment but it is hard to modulate the desired amount. I hope to always have a bottle of this on hand.

So good for us Diabetics!
30 September 2020

As a diabetic, I have to be careful on my sauce choices on a number of fronts. This one is amazing.- No carbs? BOOM!- Super flavorful? SMASH!- Low sodium? KAPLOW!That stuff aside, it's a vinegary sauce (which I love), that seems to go pretty well on everything. The ONLY downside to this sauce is that I've had it for about 18 hours and its half gone.

Tabasco squared!
19 June 2019

I’m not surprised at the heat in the sauces from “Hot ones”. This one isn’t represented to blow you head off, and it doesn’t. It’s tasty and kind to your taste buds. I’d say it’s 1-1/2 maybe 2 times the heat of Tabasco, BUT! The flavor is fantastic. The fruity ness and enjoyability of the sauces I’ve tried thus far is the big surprise for me. If you’re looking for a kindly little kick to your grub, then this one is for you.Loving it,Denny

Weird and Wonderful
9 November 2019

This is the most unique of the hot sauces I've bought here. And I've bought a lot of them. I enjoy all the heat levels, and I make even more hot sauces than I buy. So I'm no novice. And this is, hands down, my favorite Heatonist hot sauce. This is a repeat buy for me. I mostly use this in soups and stews. Especially when I'm going with a Latin American or Caribbean flavor profile. This is not the sauce you dip chips in. It's too thin and too weird. Great on friend plaintain, caldo de res, shredded goat meat, pozole, Tunisian Venison Shanks, Tacos al Pastor... you get the idea. Balance this purchase with a Last Dab or Puckerbutt sauce. This is not for everything.

Well-balanced, and most importantly, not too salty.

Well-balanced, and most importantly, not too salty. I am a vegetarian and my go-to meal for very good hot sauces is lo mein noodles with bok choy, peanuts, and scallions. The acidity in Howler Monkey is just right for light asian-themed dishes.

Howler Monkey Original is a traditional Aji Chombo hot sauce specific to the country of Panama. Just the right heat and flavor to enhance just about any dish without overpowering it. If heat is what you're after, try the Howler Monkey Hot. It has the same great flavor but with the heat kicked up a notch. Aji Chombo is a traditional Panamanian Style hot sauce heavily influenced by the Caribbean. The Aji Chombo (Scotch Bonnet) pepper was first used in Panama by the Antilleans who settled there from various Caribbean Islands. The hot sauces they created from these peppers are typically vinegar based and are commonly referred to as Aji Chombo or Chombo Picante. You will find Aji Chombo on most restaurants in Panama, especially those on the Atlantic Coast where the Antillean descendants make up the majority of the population. There are many different variations as each restaurant and individual has their own special recipe. You can use Aji Chombo on just about anything. Use it to liven up any dish, add it to soup or use it as a marinade. Unlike most habanero hot sauces, the Aji Chombo hot sauce starts off with a burn that turns into a blast of flavor.
