I replaced a variable ND filter with a set of these fixed ND filters. This was need to provide a really slow shutter speed even in the middle of the day! Works great - no color contrast that I can tell yet. I have taken it out once so far and it works great - 30 sec shutter speed in the middle of the day when combined with a 4-stop filter. But just a note of caution - make sure you cover the view finder - light leak will kill any picture otherwise!

Excellent build quality! Great coatings! If you are a Pro you will have a set of ND's in your bag! I use this on a GoPro to give a more cinematic look! Cameras with very wide lenses don't usually do very well with Variable ND's ( you get a black X in your shot at certain densities of the rotation!) So a regular ND is needed. A must for your camera bag!

More affordable than B+W; has the middle of ranges number of multicoating. It cuts light and it is not rocket science. Buy this.

Works great! Helps add motion to photos that could otherwise be quite boring.High quality filter as you would expect from Hoya. A neutral color balance with the ACCU-ND technology in the Hoya PRO ND filters; no noticeable color-cast. Along with Hoya's exclusive clear optical glass you cant go wrong with the PRO ND filters and Hoya has been the worlds largest maker of optical glass for quite some time I've heard.I'm very happy with the Hoya PRO ND's. I have the PRO ND64 and the PRO ND1000 77mm and will order the PRO ND8 to finish my Hoya ND collection.
The ProND64 filter allows seconds-long exposure in bright lighting conditions to smooth water and allow for shallower depth of field images. The 72mm filter rim is short enough to not be caught in the images down to a 10 mm focal length on my Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20 mm F/4.5-5.6G VR lens. However, stacking on any additional filters will result in the edge showing up in the final image.
I have used this thing once, about a year ago. I take good care of my filters, but I pulled this out of the bag today and found that the coating was rubbing off. The middle had bubbled up somehow, and I can see thin spots in the black coating throughout most of the filter. Never had a problem with my B+W, Rodenstock or Heliopan filters. This is inexcusable. A complete waste of money.
On the filter itself - perfect. Immaculate quality, no image issues through it. On the pros and cons of an ND64 filter? Great for keeping f stop down in bright sunlight. 5D4 still manages to autofocus through it, as long as there is lots of light, and if there isn't, why are you using a six stop ND? I have also used this along with strobes to overpower the sun but still keep a short DOF.
Bought a few of the Hoya ProNDs and must say I am very satisfied with their performance. However and unfortunately this ND64 became bad after awhile, it has developed weird misty dots on the coating which turn it unusable and degrade image significantly. Seems impossible to remove/clean and since I already had the filter for over a year the warranty was no longer valid. Tried to contact Hoya and explain the situation with no help. As a note the filters were kept in a special filter pouch, the rest of the them did not developed this and are still in perfect condition, which only shows that something is wrong about this ND64 as it was treated the same as the rest. Found a few more cases like this around the web about Hoya ProNDs which went bad, so I am sure they have ... MoreBought a few of the Hoya ProNDs and must say I am very satisfied with their performance. Very disappointing!
Relly a versitile filter. Mainly the motion needed for good water movement is the 6x. For me anyway. A Big Stopper at 10x is just too much for good water movement .....for most of what I shoot.
Does what its supposed to do, does it well and is a great price. The ring is fairly thick, so this may affect ultrawide lenses, especially if stacking. I've had no problem on a 21mm (ff equivalent). Fingers grip it well so it goes on and off easily. I haven't noticed and colour casts or abnormalities. Very happy with it, especially given its excellent price compared to retail. The USB is a nice touch. Though an SD card would be more fitting.

Hoya 49mm Pro ND500 Filter
The Hoya Pro 49mm 500x Neutral Density Filter (9 Stops (2.7)) features ACCU-ND technology that yields a truly neutral color balance that will not add any noticeable color-cast to your images. This filter is aimed at the still photography and HDSLR video markets. With metallic ACCU-ND coating on the filter, you can set your white balance once and have the same color balance even if you need to change filters due to changes in lighting, or for creative effect. The Hoya Pro ND500 49mm Filter uses Hoya's exclusive clear optical glass that has a metallic ACCU-ND coating front and back to create the neutral density affect. It is designed to reduce the amount of light entering your camera lens and should not have any other effect on the image. Reducing the amount of light allows for the use of wider apertures or slower shutter speeds for creative and dramatic effect in bright lighting conditions. It has a low-profile one piece aluminum frame. The thin frame keeps the glass secure and parallel to the sensor while allowing it to be used with super-wide angle lenses.
