Color and contrast enhancement with the Hoya HD CIR-PL filter. Light rays reflected from any surface can be polarized. Therefore, polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. With CIR-PL filters, you can eliminate unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces like water and glass. They also allow colors to appear more saturated, clearer, and with greater contrast. This effect is often used to enhance contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. Hoya's polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot. The filter features a highly transparent and durable UV-absorbing coating that offers 25% higher light transmission than standard polarizing filters. HD coating: 16-layer (both sides) anti-reflective multi-coating, water and oil repellent, scratch and dirt resistant. HD frame: ultra-thin frame compatible with wide-angle lenses, mounted on glass using high-pressure pressing technology.

Not a great deal to say about a piece of black glass :) It blocks light and appears to indeed be 9 stops. Based on a my handful of tests there doesn't appear to be any strong colour shift when using it which is an improvement on cheaper ND filters I've used in the past. I also didn't seem to suffer from any internal reflections when using it, even when shooting close to the sun without a hood. Not a cheap item, but considerably cheaper than the 10 stop NDs around, the extra stop could be achieved through appeture or ISO if desired.

My first test yield positive results. Raw images showed rich sky color when taken at various angle from sun. I always use this filter for outdoors photograph. I like the performance for the price.-James

I had recently purchased a Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 and needed new filters for the 77mm size of this lens and my Tokina 12-24. After shelling out that kind of money for a lens I wanted to get the best filters I could afford. I've used many Hoyas over the years and have always been impressed with their quality. This one is no exception. The construction quality is superb and is much thinner than other polarizers I've used. Though I've not logged much time with it yet, the images seem very crisp and clear and more nuetral than others I've tried. This filter along with the new Tiffen HT ND's will cover most of my bases when shooting outdoors.Bottom line: Get it if you can afford it!

I use this filter regularly for over a year now. The filter is easy to use, but in some cases difficult to remove from the lens, especially from the Nikon 300 PF, because the outer lens rubber ring is a lot bigger and this filter is slim. On that lens the 82 mm CPL is a much better option with the step down ring. This filter has a bit less polarizing effect and slightly more yellow, which I can accept. It attracts dirt and dust, unfortunately. I managed to scratch it somehow with normal use. In a humid environment it's impossible to remove vapor. Need to wait 5-10 minutes to adjust its temperature to do so.
What can I say? A great filter. Much glare suppression, very evident in the viewfinder (just rotate the front element) and in images. But little loss of light overall. Definitely get!
I bought used filter for half the money of new filter....in excellent condition! No need to spend 75$ on filter like this. I was little bit skeptical about this filter since I had no experience with this type of filter.. I got it just before shooting a car show. It removes most of the light, people and other reflections in the surface mostly on the side of the car it is very practical. Saves tone of time on post process editing. How much it can work for you It only depend what under angle to the sun you are shooting....if you are pointing your camera 90 degree to the sun you remove most of the reflections from the photographed subject....and it I mean a lot...if the angle is less than 90...or more than 90...it still removes reflection but the affect of removing ... MoreI bought used filter for half the money of new filter....in excellent condition! Have fun with this filter. Thumb UP.
Hoya HD Polarizers: World's Best Filters .Not only do they have magic coatings which really do repel dirt and fingerprints, the polarizing filters allow about one full stop more light to come through.Love it !
I am very pleased with this filter and consider it a step above previous polarizers i have used. I was disappointed to find Adorama employees trying to steer me to to lessor quality filters. I fell for that the last time but never again.
I like the effect and build quality of the filter. Is is really thin and I can see no degradation in the image quality when using itThe fact that is thin is the reason for the problems with it. The filter is thin and any pressure applied to it in order to be removed makes it to get stuck.I struggled for an hour to remove the filter even from the lens or from another Hama Pro UV filter. The fact that one part is mobile makes it even harder to remove.Other than that the build quality is nice and easy to clean. Optics are very good.
This filter is clear and has fairly uniform coverage when adjusting for polarization. Operation is smooth and clean. In a quick side by side comparison with my Marumi DHG Super CPL I could not tell difference in the two effects-wise, although the Hoya has a thinner profile than the Marumi. The Hoya has a kind of "root beer" tint to the glass while the Marumi has sort of an "aqua" tint to the glass. I am pleased with this purchase.
