I have the same problem as many photographers. Do I keep my camera in the case locked up so it will be protected since it is the source of my revenue or do I keep my camera by my seat at the ready at all times so I do not miss that once in a lifetime shot. I solved the problem by throwing away my lens cover and case then adding this filter to my main camera. I can then safely keep the camera by my side. When it get scratched or damaged I replace the filter with no damage to the expensive equipment. In this case I dropped the camera, scratched the filter and bent the ring. I had the old filter sawed off and this one installed about $25 total and my always at the ready camera is as good as new. I recommend every one get one instead of a lens cap.

This Hoya UV(C) filter is a top quality product, Most photographers keep one attached to the front of their camera lenses, to protect the actual front glass element of the lens from mechanical damage, contamination and fingermarks. In addition, it improves the colours of photographs taken outdoors, particularly on sunny days, by reducing the glare caused by Ultra-Violet light.

Use it as front element protector. Being multi coated mean it keeps the lens image quality intact. I trust only three brands for filters one of which is Hoya. This one meets al my expectations. In my usage I did not find the filter introducing any flare or reduce contrast or colour shifts. Recommended.

Defective coatings
15 August 2024

I purchased two of these filters for my 28mm and 40mm Nikkor lenses. I currently own more than 30 lenses and I use multicoated filters on all of them. As a professional wedding and portrait photographer, I rely heavily on my gear.Unfortunately, I found the Hoya HMC filters to be quite delicate or the coatings to be defective. After only a couple of weeks, they began showing some tiny specks, which seemed to be a sign of coatings delamination or some other kind of damage. I want to emphasize that I did not expose the lenses to any chemicals other than my regular Zeiss lens cleaner, and they were not in contact with sand or close to the sea. However, I was disappointed with Hoya's warranty policy, as it requires sending the damaged filters to California to start ... MoreI purchased two of these filters for my 28mm and 40mm Nikkor lenses. This is not a viable option for me as I am located in Canada. Unfortunately, there seems to be no customer service that can assist me in this matter. Therefore, I am unsure about the customer service of other brands, but I believe that at least their filters may offer a higher quality.

EXCELLENT UV FILTER FOR THE PRICE
17 January 2016

This is one of the cheapest but still very good UV filter WITH Multi-coating layer. It is thin/low profile, excellent for wide angles lenses. It also has threads on BOTH sides so you can attach another filter or a lens cap without issues. Many other filters (some cheaper, some similar price) do not have multi-coating layer. And THAT makes a BIG difference!! Especially if you shoot at night with light spots inside the frame. Even at daytime, multicoating is always better. I use LOT of this filter in my lenses, every on corresponding size. It's a GREAT protection to avoid scratches and dust on the lens, and UV filter. And of course, as any filter, a MUST-HAVE if you have a Weather-sealed lens, to complete the sealing, as manufacturers tell (Otherwise the lens is not ... MoreThis is one of the cheapest but still very good UV filter WITH Multi-coating layer. Otherwise it stays on every lens I own for protection. Please do NOT confuse with similar filter UV(0) (NOT UV(C)) which does NOT have multi-coating layer (and it's thicker) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. PS: After testing many, I always use Tamron Snap-on Lens Caps (highly recommended). So far the best price-quality. They fit very tight and secure on all lens and filters.

Good Filter, Bad Distributor Support
18 February 2019

I would have given this filter five stars: It has a low price, multi-coating, slim profile, good quality, and a clean and sealed package. However, I returned it because of Kenko Tokina USAs misrepresentation of its Digital Filter Kit II. It told me the kit has an NXT circular polarizer and an HMC neutral-density filter. The kit arrived with no-name filters. Kenko Tokina USA then said it had told me the filters are no-name, generic ones that are inferior to the ones it first told me were in the kit. It refused to reimburse me for the cost of returning the filters and said the store should do this. B&H did nothing wrong; Its service was excellent.

Hoya filter review
14 December 2023

The 52mm Hoya UV filter I ordered from B&H photo is working “just fine.” It’s doing everything I expected. And it’spriced just right. Delivery was on time and the wholeprocess of ordering, paying with credit card and excellent packaging makes me a very satisfied customer.

Long time since I bought a filter.
25 August 2020

Just got a new camera, and remembering the advice of my high school photography teacher, got a filter to protect the large glass element of the lens. Looked for professional reviews, but of course they all recommended filters that were all kind of high in price, not that I did not believe them, but after the camera, I wanted something that would work for now.I had a Hoya filter on my OM-10 back in high school, so thought I would get a Hoya again. So far works well, have not noticed any light refraction issues that the professional reviews warned about, but have not taken a lot of pictures. Kind of disappointed they are made in the Philippines now, but that is just how the world is.

Used switched for new
18 March 2021

I order two of these Hoya multicoated filter. I think these filters are great value and use them to protect my lenses. The one star is for the B&H service, not the filter, which I would give five.Unfortunately, B&H sent two filters, but one was clearly used. The used filter had the package seal removed and was packaged slightly differently than how the manufacturer packages it--I also had a new filter to check this. The filter itself had been (badly) cleaned and showed cleaning marks. The filter ring was worn showing the metal under the finish. B&H did send me a new filter replacement, however, the customer service person did not show any surprise that I received a used product sold as new. I was also refunded the price.I would recommend checking packaging seal ... MoreI order two of these Hoya multicoated filter. I think these filters are great value and use them to protect my lenses. You may be receiving a used item (this happened to me once before, but I chalked it up to bad luck). I have been a long time B&H customer. I am currently searching for other retailers.

Where's the flare?
11 October 2022

I've been buying stacks of Tiffen filters as lens protectors. But I've noticed that they flare and reduce the contrast a bit. I've been investing in better glass, and it became noticable the problems. So I bought a stack of these and decommissioned the Tiffens. Maybe the Tiffens could be repurposed to coasters? Anyway these are only a little more expensive and don't seem to degrade the images. They seem well made. I'm pleased.Hope this helps.
