Excellent for slow water shots during daylight hours

After deciding he lens I was going to use for long exposure shooting, and choosing the correct size, I started out with a 3-stop ND filter, which proved to be ineffective for daylight shooting. It took some trial and error to learn when to stack the 3-stop and 10-stop, and there was quite a bit of experimentation with shutter speeds and camera setup (got to use a tripod for long exposure). A timer delay of 2 seconds helped keep the stationary object in crisp focus, while the water around it became smooth and silky. I have been very pleased with the results of my limited shooting, and look forward to a lot more opportunities to try out this filter. It's definitely worth the money for landscape/water photography, well made, good glass, easy to use. It would be handy to have a filter remover (looks like a giant rubber band) for those times the filter may be on the lens too tightly to remove. The beauty of having a 3-stop and 10-stop is their stackability. So far, both at the same time haven't been needed, but you can never have too many filters, right?

A distinct colour cast

I did not realise how bad the result of a colour cast would be. Every shot used with this filter has to be 'warmed'. With some workflow product, and shooting in RAW, this product would be fine. But if you are just shooting JPEGs, and taking the JPEGs straight, you'd be a little disappointed. Point and shoot users, beware! For the money and for the brand reputation, I thought that this deserves only a 3 star. I'd come to expect more from Hoya.

Great ND Filter for Softening Water
19 March 2017

I took the filter with me on a Spring Break camping trip hoping there would be a waterfall or two so I could try it out. On one day, it was extremely bright sun so causing harsh glares off of the wet rocks surrounding the waterfall so I paired the 16X filter with my polarizer to cut the glare. It worked perfectly. You need a sturdy tripod and cable release as you need to compose your shot and focus without the filters then add them when ready to shoot. Here is an example of one.

Nd filters for Long exposure.

I find these filters to do exactly what they are supposed to do. I have tried other much more expensive filters which are supposed to be some of the best which left a blue colour cast. something I find does not happen with these ND HOYA PRO filters.

Very good results for a good price

Bought this filter to combine with a Hoya 10 stop filter to get shutter speeds of 25/30 seconds in the middle of the day. Worked fine could see little or no color cast and only a tiny loss of sharpness

Another use of the ND16 would be controlling depth of field. With a strong ND16, a much wider aperture can be used. Wide apertures like F/1.4 and F1.8 create a very shallow depth of field and have the effect of isolating the subject from the background. Creative possibilities are endless with this type of filter. Digital multi-coated filters greatly reduce the appearance of lens flare and ghosting caused by reflections. Filters feature a black matte aluminum satin finish almite frame which reduces reflections. These filters are equipped with black rimmed glass to reduce the chance of light reflecting off the edge. Ultra thin filter frames to help avoid vignetting on super wide angle lenses are also designed to hold a lens cap. These filters are equipped with a straight knurling edge for non-slip, easy attachment and removal. Filter cases are UV protected to further lengthen the life of filters.
