I actually came home from Best Buy with two of these (long story). I put one in my printer and got the message, "Printer Failure. There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn the printer off, then on."Did that; same message. HP's help site suggested unplugging the printer for a minute. Did that; same message.I searched the net for help with this message, and found a half dozen ways to clean the printer's print head. That's the cubbyhole in the printer that you push all the cartridges into. (It's actually quite easy to remove from the printer, and it would be worth trying to clean it yourself if the alternative is buying a new print head, which costs well north of 100 bucks.)Before going this route and making a fool of myself I went back to the HP ... MoreI actually came home from Best Buy with two of these (long story). Even though this smelled like an attempt to sell me more stuff, I just 'happened' to already have that second one on hand, so why not try using it instead? To my surprise, it worked! Now I know that HP is capable of selling me a cartridge that's DOA, so it got kicked off my pedestal of trustworthy companies. Since serendipity isn't going to strike twice I'm going to collect the pieces for a DIY head cleaning kit just to CMA.

It was very convenient and easy buying online. The reason that made me buy from Staples is because I recycled some inkjet toners and got some credit rewards from it. However, the people in the store did not tell me that I have to make toner cartridges purchases in order to avail of the rewards. They just told me the rewards will come in three weeks. When it didn't come in the app, I inquired and found out of their requirement. The guy was nice enough to honor my past recycling rewards when I made this purchase. I will be able to use the rewards credit for making some future purchase in the store.

I have been using the HP 950CL Black and 951 color color cartridge ever since I bought my HP printer which has been about 7+ years. I know they are more expense than some. That's one reason I always get the XL. I've never had any problems. I wait until my printer tells me I'm running low and they are on sale. I can turn the empty cartridge in to Office Depot and often get a $2.00 promotion which allows me to get them cheaper. Sometimes the promotion is for other merchandise but it's a credit non the less.

This product is highly overpriced. The printer companies are doing what the shaver companies did years ago. The produce is rather inexpensive razor but the equipment needed to make it work blades are expensive. In short time costing more than the razor. Now ink is doing the same thing. To replace all colors, it cost more than the printer.
I have been using HP printers and ink for many years. The best thing about the HP 950XL Black Cartridge is that I have never had any issues with reliability. When I put it in the printer I know I am going to get great results and I dont have to worry about the quality of the print job. The ink performs equally well and all paper types. I print flyers and brochures on specialty papers and the results are always great. I trust the HP ink cartridges to do the job.
I typically buy my ink in-store and always buy the brand ink however I want to give a warning. When purchasing in the store, carefully check the box. I purchased a multipack of ink and since I didn't use it all immediately, it was months before getting to some of the colors. When I did install, I found that the cartridges were completely empty and when checking the box, I saw it had been tampered with - glued shut to appear new. I called the store but since It had been some time since purchase, they couldn't assist. Out of 4 cartridges, two had been replaced with empties and I had to purchase more new ink,Pay attention to everything.
I've always been pleased with my Best Buy purchases. My printer was not printing well. Therefore, I bought new HP printer cartridges. I placed the new cartridges in the printer and it still did not work. Turns out, the printhead needs to be replaced. Best Buy would not refund me the money for the cartridges i can't use. Tried to find a printer that uses those cartridges but they don't have one. The sales person looked online and found a printer in Walmart. Wow, i was sent to Walmart. Apparently, if the ink cartridge box is opened they cannot refund your money or give you store credit. Receipt does not state that nor did the cashier mention anything of that sort. Now i am out $125.00. Very disappointed.
Ok folks, I feel honored, as The Staples Corporation has requested that I write a review of a HP 950XL, Black High Yield Original Ink Cartridge. Really, I don’t know where to begin, with the intricate and sophisticated name of this product or it’s bad ass design, it’s ease of use, or it’s ultimate quality, the ability to print. I was comforted, in these troubled times to find my way to Staples and be able to purchase this cartridge and make it home uninflected. Stripping it of its packaging was really a breeze and left me standing in front of my temporarily disabled printer wondering about how powerless I really was in the universe of all things digital. Inserting it into the vacant vertical slot gave me a strange feeling of satisfaction. Inserting it into the vacant vertical slot gave me a strange feeling of satisfaction. The sleek, yet textured design made the final touch of my thumb seem a true pleasure. Alas, closing the front panel woke me with a mechanical type of noise. Amazingly, it actually printed, beautiful black ink on white paper. Ah, life is sweet!
How much would you pay for printer ink? I would give this zero stars if I could. I would not buy this ink if I didn’t absolutely need to in order to print anything. But HP Printer ink is essential if you have a HP printer. HP and all printer companies have a strong hold on supplies and jack up the price. They take advantage of customers and disregard environmental consequences. They have been making profits for years. The technology exists to make printer ink cheaply, more environmentally friendly, and last longer but they choose profits instead of doing the right thing. You can better HP.
