Golden performance with the Ryzen 5 5000 series, I am able to edit videos for my YouTube channel as well.7. Great battery life. Getting about 7-8 hours easily on youtube and notion multitasking!!!NEGATIVESThe only negative is that the screen does have a bit of glare from certain viewing angles but is not a deal breaker at all.... Type connectivity is my most used feature but my favorite is definitely the convertible feature and I use it much more than I originally thought I would especially with the pen for note taking and just general navigation as well. It's so convenient and if you don't need to type a lot for certain tasks like browsing the web or email etc.... Definitely get the hp wireless pen! You'll thank me later. Battery life is awesome as well and with the included type c charger it is fast recharge as well. Absolutely love it!... Show more

Great value, wimpy screen
18 January 2023
Great value when this is on sale or open box. Better yet wait fora sale, and THEN get it open box! Full price? No way, look elsewhere. I'll be writing this review from the point of view of a power user / prosumer.First things first, the IPS screen is pretty washed out coming in around 40% sRGB coverage and fairly low brightness. If you are doing photo or video work, the base model screen will not do. It has a fairly heavy green cast to it which I was able to remove, but it's still fair at best. Out of the box as is I'd say it's barely average. Most users won't care to be honest that are just doing basic desktop work while indoors. For my use case I don't really care, but it's noticeable. I have to run my brightness about 3/4 of the way up, so not a great laptop ... MoreGreat value when this is on sale or open box. Better yet wait fora sale, and THEN get it open box! Full price? I have to run my brightness about 3/4 of the way up, so not a great laptop for going outside with most likely. The reflective screen gives a nice sharp text, but at the cost of reflections. The Ryzen 5 5625U is the star of the show being a Zen3 6 core part. It's very easy to find lots of older 5000 series parts that are really warmed over Zen2 4000 series stuff. The 5500U is a great example. Very confusing unless you look up each CPU or understand the naming systems. This machine punches somewhere between a 1700X and 2700X desktop parts depending while consuming about 33 watts in performance mode. The cooling is pretty good if you enable "fan always on" in the BIOS, it's disabled by default. No need to disable 'Turbo Boost' no matter what the internet tells you on this model. Fan noise is acceptable even when you are doing a heavy workload. It's not silent, but I've heard much worse.Don't expect to do any gaming on this unless it's older / very light or e-sports and some indy titles. The Vega 7 iGPU is enough to accelerate your desktop and browser without complaint though.Memory is a two-slot affair with 2 x 4GB SO-DIMMs at 3200Mhz CL22 and very cheap to upgrade to 16GB. I paid about $40 bucks for a kit. Don't bother with gamer kits, this thing will just run JEDEC timings anyways. Easy to open, no screws under the rubber feet on these refreshed models unlike the Envy models before this. There is no option I saw to keep the battery charge around 80% for those who stay plugged in a lot. I think that is only on Probook level machines. Silly omission.Build quality is good, easy to open, stays pretty cool to the touch under all but the most demanding workloads. Camera has a physical mechanical shutter, which is just kinda cool.Great machine, if you can get it at the right price point.P.S. for users who want to dual boot Win11 and Linux - They make installing Linux a little odd, with the BIOS having a sub menu for the boot order that isn't intuitive. Getting grub to be the primary bootloader took some trial and error, detailed below.Enter the BIOS with F10 and head to the boot order menu. Move the regular boot order with F5 and F6, but you have to press enter on the bootloader option itself, which will bring up another menu allowing you to select between Windows Boot Manager, and grub. Swap the order with F5/F6, and press F10 to accept while in the submenu. If you just hit escape, it will revert to what it had before. You're welcome, no idea why it doesn't give each one its own overall option in the main order.... Show more

Looks Appealing, but Many Problems
15 February 2023
I thought this computer would be a good fit for me. It would, if it worked well – but IT DOES NOT work well – it constantly freezes up just trying to open a folder.I LIKE:• The backlit keyboard is easy to see and very comfortable for me to type on.• The processor seems fast enough - when it's not totally stuck.• It has nice speakers (although they face DOWN onto your lap - a POOR design & a waste of good speakers.)• It looks good!I DON'T LIKE:• The speakers face downward, under the body. Very muffled if you have it on your lap or a soft surface. There are FAKE speaker grills on the keyboard side, that make you think there are top-facing speakers, but this is a FAKE-out. There are no speakers there, they are just openings to let some sound and air out of the ... MoreI thought this computer would be a good fit for me. There are no speakers there, they are just openings to let some sound and air out of the body.• The Deal breaker is this computer cannot perform BASIC WINDOWS FUNCTIONS without freezing up. I try to open folders in Documents and Windows explore just freezes - I can’t search, or scroll, or open a document -this goes on for 2-3 minutes! This is a BRAND NEW COMPUTER! This is completely unacceptable, to wait 2-3 minutes to open a folder!• This laptop has a large touchpad that seems to be programmed in a very specific manner that is not documented anywhere! This makes it very difficult to do basic functions, like clicking and dragging to select text in a document. You have to click down in very specific areas of the touchpad to make this work. And if you touch the wrong area, you can easily open or close or reformat your document without meaning to. (Some of this might be able to be altered in advanced settings, but I have been typing using touchpads for many years, and have never had such trouble with basic functions.)So I can’t really recommend this computer – it looks like a good package for the price, but does not perform smoothly day to day.... I want to add that unlike other competitors this laptop does not have the memory attached to the board with sauder. It also has a 2nd memory slot so it's easy to upgrade (If you know what your doing). I did put it as a negative because they added 2x4gb chips so you have to get a full replacement or just upgrade to 12gb when you do.Neutral:256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD is not the best drive due to the size. Most people won't have an issue with it and it can be upgraded. It is a fast little drive but 512 is really the min I would suggest. Check out the Samsung 980 or 980 EVO drives they are an amazing upgrade with quick boot.Graphics: AMD Radeon Graphics - This is a good built in graphics and for the price it's all you really can get. It's not gamer level but it is consumer level. Just know what you are buying and don't expect to run your games at 4k.Overall: I would really suggest this laptop for most consumers. It is not a gaming laptop but it's not meant to be one. If you are looking for school, work, or pretty much anything expect for gaming or programming this will suit your needs. The biggest plus is unlike the Dell and Lenovo 2-in-1 you can upgrade because of how it was built. Solid laptop I would suggest.... Show more

Solid Product, but Buyer Beware
15 April 2023
This laptop is a solid product, though my experience with Best Buy hasn’t been the best. I paid $799 for this laptop because it was pretty much what I needed and I was in a bind, time-wise. I should have done more research (which is on me), because after purchasing and completing my data migration I found it for $250 cheaper in at least two other prominent locations. When I enquired of Best Buy if they’d honor their price matching policy, I was politely informed that this product wasn’t eligible because it came “bundled” with a free trial offer for some security software I had zero interest in using. The operator did sound surprised I’d found it for so much less elsewhere, and to be fair they did tell me I could still return the product if I chose to do so, but that ... MoreThis laptop is a solid product, though my experience with Best Buy hasn’t been the best. I don't buy computers willy nilly -- I do a lot of research beforehand. In researching this laptop, I found two credible websites that indicated the AMD Ryzen 5 5625uprocessor is supposed to come with a powerful iGPU -- Radeon RX Vega 7 graphics, with up to 2 GB of VRAM.Nope. This model comes with only a standard graphics card -- and just 512 mb of VRAM. My eyes clearly see the difference between such a card -- and my other computer with 2 GB of VRAM. There's no legitimate reason why a computer normally retailing for $800 has such a comparatively poor graphics package. If you're less picky about graphics performance, this may well be a fine laptop for you. But if you are more selective about such things -- then you may want to wait for the forthcoming Ryzen 6000 series models.... Show more

Working great for school!

This is a nice laptop. The touch screen that I didn't think I needed has ended up being an awesome feature. I use the laptop daily for school and really haven't had any issues. I would give it 4.5 stars if that were an option. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the touchpad is pretty big and it moves the cursor quite often when I'm typing. Thanks to ctrl z, it's easy enough to fix as long as I notice right away. It boots up pretty quickly, pulls up programs and websites fast, no issues at all. I think having an SSD really helps. I believe I can add more RAM, but haven't had a need to do so yet. The black color is pretty cool also, different than all the silver laptops.
