Upon receiving this printer from the Stellar Product Testing Panel, I was so excited to set it up and get printing. Once I got it out of the box and plugged in, I looked at the instructions that came with it and began to follow them. I attempted to follow the instructions to set up wirelessly, as that's what I'm familiar with. I installed the HP smart software on my computer to attempt to connect it to my network. However, it just couldn't find my network. I used the help center on the HP software and after several minutes of searching and reading, it dawned on me that perhaps this printer was not enabled for Wifi! So, I plugged it into my router with an ethernet cable and then I was able to connect the printer to my internet network.Once I did that, I installed the HP Smart app on my phone and was able to print directly from my phone, as well as from the computer. This printer doesn't have a scan or copy button on it, but on the app it's easy to scan using your camera and the app fixes the picture to look more like an actual scan. I also realized that you can use the scan feature to essentially copy other documents in the same way.I had several things to print for my home schooled children and I was pleasantly surprised how fast and quiet the printer works. The images are very crisp and clean and even very detailed coloring pages looked perfect. Some of the children even noticed the difference in quality relative to our old printer. Overall I feel that this printer is a great product for those who want fast, good looking printing and the convenience of printing on the go. Small businesses, those who work from home, and homeschool parents would all do well with this.

To my chagrin, it was a really big surprise that the HP - LaserJet Pro 4001ne Black-and-White Laser Printer requires a hard wired, by ethernet cord, to an internet connection. I did not pay attention to the "ne" in the name, which essentially means hardwire to a network connection versus a "w" which would mean a wireless connection to the internet. So, since this is a laserjet printer, and ideal for my CPA business office application, In order to connect and make this machine usable, I wound up calling my telephone coop who is my internet provider, the only one in town, and paying them somewhere in the neighborhood of $70-$100 for them to install a plug in wired to the router that they originally gave me for free.As soon as the machine was hooked up to the ... MoreTo my chagrin, it was a really big surprise that the HP - LaserJet Pro 4001ne Black-and-White Laser Printer requires a hard wired, by ethernet cord, to an internet connection. I had to work to find a legitimate HP toll free number, not one to a group that for a fee services HP. That took more time than it should of-HP, would you give us your contact information, please. At any rate, the call went offshore and that person told me to disconnect the power cord from the wall and also disconnect the ethernet cable from the machine for at least 30 seconds. I then reconnected everything and that seemed to clear the error message that just shutting down the machine did not resolve. The tech person that I was on with had me finish the set up with HP easy connect versus use my HP Smart Connect app already downloaded on my android smartphone, I have many HP printers and have previously used this app to set up and connect those other machines. Finally, all was set up and connected, both on the desktop and on my phone so that I can print whatever I need from my computer, as well as, my phone.Pros--this is a high volume printing machine at a much more affordable machine price compared to the laserjet type machines of the 1990's and those sold the early part of this century. I remember paying over $1,000 for an earlier version that had a much larger footprint and did printed at less than half the rate for my CPA office application. This machine is supposed to print 42ppm with a 350 sheet capacity, only in black, supporting a small office, such as mine, with up to 4000 pages per month. I am a one person office, but this could easily be accessed by many people in one office. The machine comes with a power cord and a 148A cartridge in the box. However, there is a high capacity cartridge, 148X that will print up to 9,500 pages. I had to provide the ethernet cable that plugs into a high speed port.HP has an instant ink program, but I have not signed up for that yet. This machine qualifies for 3 free months and then HP, with a credit card on file when you sign up, will bill you monthly. I was about to sign up for this, as I have with 2 other machines, but the monthly fee for 1500 pages per month is $25.99 or $311.88 over a 12 month time period, which to me seemed quite costly So, I do not believe that I would use that much and therefore, I have not yet made my decision on the program. There are options to buy ink for less pages per month so I will be considering those options, tioo. This is what I get upset about because it winds up that the cost of the ink outpaces the original cost of the machine. However, i will state that HP states riight on the box that the HP+ smart printer always requires an internet connection and use of HP original toner. Oh, I forgot to mention that if you do enroll in the instant ink program, you will receive an extra 1 year warranty which will then give you a 3 year warranty, which originally had a 2 year warranty. If you need quick, high volume, reliable professional-like printing on a smaller scale, then a machine like this is for you, especially since it does not take up too much real estate on either a desk or table surface.

I received this from the Stellar Product Testing Panel.Once this printer is set up, it is very fast and prints smooth and bold black ink. I printed a set of high contrast images and they look great! Anyone connected to the wifi network can print. It worked easily from both PCs and Android mobile devices. Overall I give the hardware itself an A. The speed and quality of the printing is my favorite part of this printer. The setup process is clunky. There is an online account setup that has part of the instructions, other parts of the instructions are in the paper manual, and still others are in the software setup interface. There is no way anyone without decent tech experience could get this set up without calling HP tech support. It is not made clear anywhere in the manual or setup whether the printer is wifi capable or requires wired Ethernet connection. The instructions all contain directions for both but without clarity around what this exact printer has. This model is Ethernet only which is not what I would choose as it severely limits where in my office I can put the physical printer. There is a lot of pressure at setup to sign up for the HP auto refill toner program. You can opt out (which I did) but the whole process feels gimmicky. I'm also unclear about how much of what you are printing is viewable to HP, so there is potentially a privacy concern there especially if printing confidential documents.Overall if you can make it through the setup process and don't mind having to connect to Ethernet and deal with the HP account setup and sales process, it is a fast printer that puts out dark, clear black and white pages.

Last year I picked up the world’s smallest laser jet printer (in its class) - the HP LaserJet M110W. The black and white printer made a number of compromises in order to take up less space on a desk (it’s 13.6 X 7.5 x 6.3 at 8.4 pounds) yet it managed to produce excellent printed pages. I was anxious to see if a “Pro” model from HP offered anything better than the M110W. I was underwhelmed with the results. The HP LaserJet Pro 4001 offers a traditional laser jet printer in the physical dimensions of being a no frills big square hunk of plastic (15 X 14.06 X 8.5 at 18.13 pounds) with a non-movable LED display and a proper paper tray designed to handle large printing loads. HP even offers the option to add a third printer tray capable of holding an additional 550 ... MoreLast year I picked up the world’s smallest laser jet printer (in its class) - the HP LaserJet M110W. HP even offers the option to add a third printer tray capable of holding an additional 550 sheets. What this printer is sorely missing though is duplex printing. In an age where saving the planet and conservation of materials is at the forefront of most businesses, HP continues to release printers that don’t offer duplex printing. For conservation efforts HP gets a +1 for no longer including a USB cable so that’s one less item for a landfill. It also means a headache if you one of the few who insist on connecting the printer directly to a computer. The preferred method of connectivity is Wifi but the unit ships with an Ethernet connection as well.I was most interested in what the “Pro” label adds to the functionality beyond being able to hold more paper and having an ethernet port. Looking at the spec sheet it translates to faster print speeds, more printing (80,000 pages a month instead of 8,000), more memory, a faster processor, and yes holding more paper, which really boils down to how many people are sharing this printer and will be printing at the same time. If you need a workhorse printer for a small office this printer is a good buy. But I will caution that where things get weird is what I would describe as print quality. On the technical specifications sheet HP moved from FastRes 600 up to FastRes 1200 and now includes HP ProRes1200 and the stated resolution is what they call Fine Lines (1200 X 1200 DPI). In other words, everything should look better on paper from the previous generation of the printing technology. But print the same thing on the M110 and put it next to a print from the Pro 4001 and you’ll find the M110 produces what I can only describe as “brighter” prints which to my eyes are easier to read. This behavior is consistent with black and white photos, color photos printed in black and white, technical white papers heavy on small text and light on charts and graphs, it just doesn’t seem to matter what is printed, everything looks better coming out of the M110. That’s not to say what’s coming out of the Pro 4001 is bad, it’s just not as vivid.Overall I expected a better print quality from a Pro model and it’s just not there, though the lack of duplex printing is a much bigger shortcoming.
I was unbelievably excited to receive this LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdne printer, but out of the box, it was not as cut-and-dry as I had hoped.First, it seemed to come with a wireless connection option based on the user manual, but after calling tech support, I realized that it was hardline connection only. That aspect of the set up was frustrating and confusing and took a bit of time to try and work through. Second, once I got it all set up and tried to hardline it into my Ethernet, it wouldn’t connect. Back to tech support for help. From an ease of connectivity standpoint, I really wasn’t all that impressed. I like being able to basically plug-and-play with printers, and knew that this printer would be a little more involved, but I didn’t expect it to be quite so ... MoreI was unbelievably excited to receive this LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdne printer, but out of the box, it was not as cut-and-dry as I had hoped.First, it seemed to come with a wireless connection option based on the user manual, but after calling tech support, I realized that it was hardline connection only. From an ease of connectivity standpoint, I really wasn’t all that impressed. I like being able to basically plug-and-play with printers, and knew that this printer would be a little more involved, but I didn’t expect it to be quite so difficult. As far as the actual use of the printer, it’s awesome. Lightning fast, and it’s wonderfully smooth when transferring type. Some printers seem to almost shuffle across the page, leaving smudges and this one is insanely crisp. I love the fact that I can print directly from my phone, but I dislike that there is zero ability to connect directly to the printer with a cable/driver like the more basic styles of printers. My husband genuinely appreciates the speed of this printer, as well as the ability to scan pages in volume. It came at the perfect time to test because he had a huge project with a massive amount of scanning and printing, and he put this beast through its paces. From that standpoint, we are thoroughly impressed. It was also comforting that the printer offers transmission security since the project that my husband was working on contained a lot of sensitive information. Having the confidence of those security features in our corner is awesome.I think my favorite aspect of the printer in general is simply the speed. Once it was connected and we started to print on it, there was very little lag time from pressing the “print” button to when the print spit out pages. While it’s obviously not going to keep up with the heavy duty industrial machines, for a “small office” machine, this LaserJet Pro MFP does it all, plus some. While I can’t give it a five star review because of the difficulty in setup and how deeply frustrating that all was, as well as how time-consuming, it definitely can rate it a solid three, and will still recommend it. But that recommendation comes with the caveat of buyers need to be prepared to troubleshoot the heck out of this thing if they’re not a heck of a lot more tech-savvy than we are.*I received this LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdne as a part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.*
For years HP has been a brand that is synonymous with quality printers and the HP laser jet Pro MFP 4101fdwe does not disappoint .It is the perfect workhorse printer for all of your home or small office needs. Unlike my previous wireless printer from a different brand there is not much lag time once I press print on my phone or computer. The automatic document feeder can handle up to 50 sheets and I had no issues with papers sticking together or being mis fed into the printer. One other thing that I loved is the ability to print double sided automatically because it was a little annoying to have to do it manually on my inkjet printer. The 2.7 inch touchscreen works much better than HP printer of the past and was easy to read. When it come to toner you have 2 options which include the regular and high yield cartridge. The regular toner cartridge yields 2,900 standard pages as per HP and the high yield toner should yield 9,500 pages. In my short use with the printer I did not experience any issues or problems and I can't say that I miss the ability to print in color. I did keep my old inkjet printer in case I have to ever print in color for the kid's homework assignments but in general 99% of my printing is in black and white. You can also subscribe to the HP instant ink service which ensures that you never run out of ink but from past experience the on\e thing that I didn't like about is was that once you cancel the service your toner cartridge is rendered useless.Overall if you are in the market for a reliable black and white printer then the HP Laserjet pro MFP 4101fdwe can not be beat.
My husband and I both work from home and have IT backgrounds. We are considered to be very tech savvy so when I got to test the HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdne printer through the Stellar Product Testing Panel I was pleased and had no worries that we would make great use of this printer. First, when we received the printer we were surprised at how large it was, but when you consider all of its supposed functions it is actually a reasonable compact size. For a small office or even home office with a dedicated space it would be a good option. This model had to be connected via an ethernet cable. If you are purchasing a printer you would obviously check if it is wired or wireless before buying and it may not seem like a big deal however it was more of a pain than I had ... MoreMy husband and I both work from home and have IT backgrounds. If you are purchasing a printer you would obviously check if it is wired or wireless before buying and it may not seem like a big deal however it was more of a pain than I had anticipated. Being wired limits where you can use the printer and if you are in a small office or home office this could be a problem. My husband (whose office is the only place to connect with an ethernet cable) was NOT pleased this as we would not have opted put the printer in there if we had a choice, so it just limits you. I wish I could speak more to the functionality of the printer however after 3+ hours of trying we were unable to get the printer set up. It is incredibly frustrating as the instructions it comes with are very brief, leading you to believe it will be a snap, but it was not. We did a factory reset and multiple restarts to no avail. Every time we got it turned on and tried to connect it to the network it would just show that it was retrieving a pairing code. There was no way to force this to stop and even after we reset it just popped back up when we started over. I confirmed that the printer was connected to the internet, I could see that it was through our Google fiber box and finally after an hour I was able to see the printer on my computer to progress to the next step. I got so excited, but NOPE, the printer just kept retrieving pairing code. Based on the set up alone I would not recommend this printer. No one should have to go through this many hoops when they are not necessary, printing technology has advanced past this. The printing, scanning and copying are all great, but if it is such a pain to set up are they enough? For us, no, I would not recommend this printer.
The HP LaserJet Pro MFP black and white all in one laser printer is a significant upgrade to my home office for printing speed, ease of use, and sheer volume handling. I work from home full time, my teens just started back to school with multiple pages of school paperwork to print, and my husband routinely needs to print invoices from home, so at two weeks in, I've already been through a 500 sheet pack of copy paper. So far I've had zero issues with printing, remote printing, scanning, copying, or jams of any type. Note, this printer also includes landline based fax capabilities, however not something I've tested for this review. The footprint of this printer is approximately 2' x 1.5' x 1', weighing in at just under 30 lbs. This provides a footprint that will fit on my desk, however with built in wireless connectivity and multiple user profiles, I appreciate the ability to place the printer in a centralized location so the family can access it without coming into my office.Setting up the printer is easy. Remove printer from box, plug included power cord into outlet, and follow the on screen setup instructions. If desired, the printer can directly connect to a computer via USB cable or ethernet. I installed the printer for remote use via my home wireless network, which required that I also installed the HP Smart app on my Android device. The app allows for admin functionality, user specific setup, as well as printing from my phone or desktop. From the app I can also view estimated toner levels, order a one time toner shipment, or subscribe to toner refills. HP offers various levels of subscription services, allowing for toner to be shipped directly to your home / office based on your projected usage. For functionality, this printer has an automatic document feeder, supports envelope / label printing, flatbed scanner, and boasts a 250 page tray, which I've confirmed can print 37 page documents in under a minute, with both single and double sided printing. For scanning, the output file can be wirelessly sent via email, sent to a network folder, SharePoint location, computer, or to a USB drive connected to the printer. I can also scan from my phone and view / edit prior to saving the file. In addition to easily handling high volume printing, scanning, and copying, the printer options provides the capability of printing detailed, high definition fine line prints, such as complex sheet music or art templates. One bonus feature is that the printer works with my Alexa enabled devices, allowing for my teens to send school or grocery shopping lists and reminder notes from Alexa straight to the printer, without having the HP app installed.Overall I find this printer to exceed the needs of a home office or personal business. With the app based functionality, printing speeds, and user options, this printer provides multiple users the freedom to print on the go, from anywhere, at any time.
I received this HP printer from the Stellar Product Testing Panel, and I was excited to get the opportunity to try this printer out. I am a huge fan of HP products, and this held up to the brands reputation. We do a lot of printing at home, as many of us at home have jobs that require frequent printing. Sometimes we have huge print jobs that feel like they take forever, and we tend to waste paper because it is a lot of work to double side the papers. This printer is great because it automatically does double siding, so it saves us a lot of paper and makes me feel a little better about all the paper we go through. I also have noticed on our longer print jobs that it prints so much faster than our old one. It is so efficient, and I love the fact that it doesn't do ... MoreI received this HP printer from the Stellar Product Testing Panel, and I was excited to get the opportunity to try this printer out. I also have noticed on our longer print jobs that it prints so much faster than our old one. It is so efficient, and I love the fact that it doesn't do color printing. I know some people want that option, but I for one prefer it to finding out that your kids used up all the red ink in your printer on random printings, and now your printer won't work because it has no red - never mind that you only want black and white. It took a bit of time at first setting it up, but once it is set up, printing is almost immediate. You can still use ethernet printing, but I am a huge fan of the Smart App, as I can print from my phone. I do a lot of business from my phone, so being able to just print from my phone rather than getting out my computer is a great convenience for me. I love that I can customize my printers settings, as it can be annoying having default settings that I don't want, such as double sided if you only do single sided, or vice-versa. This printer is larger and therefore heavier, so make sure you use a solid desk or table capable of holding the weight. I highly recommend this printer if you run a small business or if you do a lot of printing, especially large print jobs, and don't mind not using color ink. It has so many great features, and it still encompasses the typical printer functions of copying, scanning, and printing. This is an excellent investment in your business or household, and it is worth getting.
If you have a bit of patience and an ethernet cable, this is a nice and sturdy printer. The setup process, however, is a huge pain. Disclaimer: I was given this printer to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel, but this review details my honest experience using it.As a work-from-home parent, I need a printer that can handle basic print jobs for me, more complex prints for my spouse's work (back and front, booklet printing, etc)., and a near-constant demand for printable coloring sheets from my tiny humans. This printer does all those things well and is particularly speedy. The print quality was great, and the machine is relatively quiet. It does take up a bit of desk size compared to a smaller laser printer I’ve been using for a few years, but I don’t ... MoreIf you have a bit of patience and an ethernet cable, this is a nice and sturdy printer. This printer does all those things well and is particularly speedy. The print quality was great, and the machine is relatively quiet. It does take up a bit of desk size compared to a smaller laser printer I’ve been using for a few years, but I don’t mind it being on my desk instead of hidden away because it’s so well-constructed and has a sleek design. The printer comes sturdily packaged and isn’t too heavy, which is great because who wants a bulky printer in their way? It feels well-built, and the paper-catching tray and loading tray are sturdy in comparison to other at-home printers (so they can hold up to abuse from all members of the family). I particularly like the way the paper loads into an actual tray that’s tucked out of the way compared to other printers with a fold-down feed tray. However, as the tech manager of our household and the one who sets up all the electronics and new devices… I can say that getting this printer set up was a headache. Printers generally don’t get a good reputation — whether you’re working at home or in an office — and I can say that this printer did not stand out from the pack in terms of setup; in fact, it may be one of the most frustrating printers I’ve had to setup for myself or family/friends. Out of the box, you have two hours from turning it on to complete the wireless mode setup, and I gave up trying to get it online this way after a solid hour. The next best way to get it up and going is with an ethernet cable — this printer does not come with one, but should, considering it’s the only real way to get it working (so if you’re going to purchase this one, throw an ethernet cable in the cart since most people don’t just have them laying around anymore). Even with ethernet mode setup, the process frequently glitched and took too long — the printer itself displays the message “this is taking longer than expected,” which gave me a good laugh. Same, printer, same.Another feature that I wasn’t a fan of is how you have to set up an HP account to use the printer — I’m not a fan of having to have multiple apps/accounts to do basic office tasks, and having to create a whole new account for a basic piece of office equipment was pretty irritating. In terms of ink, I’ve only had the printer a few short weeks so I’m unsure how it will last, though I see the HP does offer a subscription service. Of note, however, is that HP says this printer requires HP-branded ink for its lifetime, so that cost should be factored into your shopping decision.Overall, the HP LaserJet Pro is a great option if you’ve got some patience, tech savviness, and are in need of a solid printer that can hold up to a variety of home-office printing tasks, however I wouldn’t recommended it for people who aren’t printing on the regular, or who aren’t as comfortable with an extensive set-up process.
