HP M404dn LaserJet Pro Mono Laser Printer

I'm an occasional printer user. I do not have to print often but sometimes my girlfriend needs to print at once a big batch of papers. After spending a lot of money on ink cartridges and living through painful days of having my inkjet printer ink nozzles dry up and require constant check-ups, especially after not being used for a few months, I decided to switch to Laser.No regrets - this printer prints very fast on both sides of paper. It was quick to connect to WiFi as well. I'm yet to replace my cartridge after almost 500 pages. This model is B&W only and doesn't include a scanner on top but for the price - it's totally worth it, unless you require these functions.

First, installation was easy. I had to download a driver, because I use the Linux Mint operating system, but configuration was easy. I chose to set it up with a static IP address.The printer was easy to put together and has a very solid feel. Flimsy hardware always worries me. I also noted that the printer does not support WiFi. While I know that WiFi can be secured, I prefer to not give hackers a target to test their skills against. Lack of WiFi is my second favourite feature of this printer.This is easily the fastest printer I have ever owned, and of course, that is my favorite feature. In my own tests, it produced at least 30 pages per minute. A larger cassette, which will hold a ream, is available as an option. On the other hand, graphics are not very good. Of course, not being in color makes graphics suffer, but there is a suggestion of jagginess in lines that should be smoother.One thing worries me, and that is the statement, `Dynamic security enabled printer.` From HP`s website, `Certain HP printers use cartridges that have security chips or electronic circuitry. Cartridges using a non-HP chip or modified or non-HP circuitry* may not work, and those that work today may not work in the future.` I`m not sure I accept the assumption that a specially crafted chip in a printer cartridge can insert malware into my network. While I know HP would prefer I buy their cartridges, that choice must be mine, and I expect to be able to disable that security `feature` if necessary.I remain a fan of all-in-one color printers, because when you need color, a scanner, or a fax machine, that`s what you need. But for sheer printing speed, this printer is hard to beat. I think it could easily serve as the workhorse printer for a workgroup, with a color all-in-one printer available to use as needed. I would not hesitate to recommend this printer.

I love my new HP Laserjet Pro M-404DW. This printer is quiet, fast and has great print quality. I needed a printer that had great print quality, was fast , had automatic duplexing of print and would allow wireless printing, this printer "checks all the boxes"!This printer replaces 2 brother laser printers that failed within a 2 year period, the first printer lasted about 18 months the second one only lasted 2 months, bothe were replaced under geek squad replacement warranties. It all comes down to you get what you pay for. A sub $200 laser cannot compare to a $420. HP Laserjet.The speed anf print quality on this HP Laserjet blows away the previous Brother printer. Even when set on the lowest print quality the Hp printers print quality is so much cleared and sharper than the brother laser even on brothers highest print quality. There is no comparison between the HP and the Brother, the HP wins hands down. The superior build quality is evident immediatly when you open the HP box, everything fits better the toner cart fits much better and slides in more smoothly on the HP than the Brother and is much quieter when printing.Yes the HP is about twice the cost and the toner carts are more expensive, but you get what you pay for! You can buy quality once first off or you can go cheap and spend much more on multiple throw away printers. I am confident this printer will last much longer and print much better than the previous 2 printers it replaces. I am very pleased with my HP M404DW!
