This sound bar packs a surprising punch from only being a single unit with no additional subwoofer, or surround sound speakers. While watching movies, this sound bar gives clear dialog, but also gives you immersive, rich, and colorful sound for background music. While, yes, having an additional subwoofer or surround speakers would improve the experience, you can't go wrong with this sound bar in any context. The remote isn't my favorite remove in the world, and does feel a little lack-luster in the options department, it still gets the job done with everything you need it to do. Ideally I would've loved to see more options for sound profiles or adjustable levels for the individual channels (such as bass, mid-range, and treble). Despite the lack of adjustability though, the sound is pretty close to where I like it. The bass is surprisingly strong for being a single unit, and I believe this is helped by having the low range driver facing down into a TV stand. All in all, this is one solid unit, and if you're looking for a simple, single piece sound bar that gives you bluetooth connectivity along with your choice of sound input (HDMI, Optical, and USB), this is the unit for you.

First things first, this is definitely an upgrade from tv speakers. I wasn't overwhelmed, or underwhelmed, by the sound quality. The balance between music, ambient noise, and speech is much better than stock speakers. Don't expect bumping bass or a dramatic cinematic experience. Do expect an overall decent sound quality. It provides depth of sound and a good stereo experience. The unit is quite sizeable for the sound it produces. If your tv isn't wall mounted and on a stand, or smaller than a 55", it will be kind of awkward. I have a 55" tv, and the unit barely fits in between the television's feet. Unless I keep it off centered, it blocks the TV's IR sensor, so the television remote won't work. It blends in well with my black television and black stand.Connectivity via HDMI made setup super easy. Quite literally plug in and go! I love that the only feature I use the remote for is connecting my phone via Bluetooth. That feature is awesome, by the way! So easy to turn on some tunes while cleaning! All in all, I am satisfied with the end result of the sound bar, but definitely not blown away. As long as someone isn't looking to rumble their living room, I would recommend this sound bar.

I picked this up a few days ago because my old Sony with an external subwoofer died. With the holiday season coming, I didn't want to blow a lot of $$ on a new sound bar and the star rating, reviews and price point lured me into this one. It was easy enough to set up, I have to connect to my TV with an optical cable, which I just bought. I'm quite dissapoinred in the sound quality when playing music. The base on the built in subwoofer is barely audible, the resulting sound is flat and overall, a but tinny. Switching from movie to music modes does little to change or improve the sound quality. If you're an audiophile, don't even bother with this one. I've decided to return it this afternoon and will save up to buy a better quality one.

Originally I had it on a table under the TV but noticed a lack of low frequency sound. After moving it to the wall under the TV, the sound was much fuller and the bass was more pronounced. The sound bar has a Bluetooth option that easily connected to my phone and is a great way to play music while not watching anything on the TV.Overall operation is seamless when connected to a TV as the TV controls the volume of the sound bar. The sound bar sound is well balanced and requires minimal effort to use.The JBL Cinema SB120 is a hassle free way to upgrade the basic sound from flat panel TVs to a rich more immersive sound.

Connection easy and strait forward. My TV is an older model and does not support ARC HDMI, as a result I couldn’t connect TV to the soundbar until I purchased an OPTICAL cable (not include with this unit). Once the optical cable was installed, the SB120 worked flawlessly. Bluetooth pairing with my phone was a snap. I was not able to check the HDMI ARC connectivity but have no reason to believe that this would be a problemThe size is perfect. The low profile is especially effective for placing it at the base of the TV without interfering with the TV remote signal. The sound quality is very good, especially at higher volume levels. Bass response is also good, but most of all the Voice clarity is a noticeable improvement over the TV speakers. It also has a Voice button which, when used, significantly improves voice clarity even more. This system does not have an equalizer, but the remote has three buttons for music, voice and movies. You can easily switch to whatever mode that sounds best for your needs. It lacks a display screen for displaying the current settings such as volume level, Bluetooth etc. It does have an indicator light on the front of the unit which uses color coding to provide some status information.Pros:• Sleek design, strong build, easy to install• Very good sound quality as compared to the TV sound.• Three built in equalizer setting.• Voice enhancement feature works well• Bluetooth connectivity for playing other devices through the sound bar• It does have a color-coded light in front of the unit which displays the various status of the unit, based on the color of the light.• USB Port for updating firmware.• Bluetooth, HDMI arc and Optical (TOS) connectivity• Cons:• This soundbar does not have a display so you do not know what mode has been slelected. This also makes it difficult to manage volume level. It does have a color-coded light in front of the unit which displays the various status of the unit, based on the color of the light.• No control to change bass and treble• No subwoofer. It would be nice to have a sub out connection for more powerful output of lower frequencies.• There is no JBL app available to manage the soundbar
As a long time fan of JBL sound products, I recently received the JBL SB120 soundbar to test and review. I must say it is impressive for smaller spaces, delivers solid JBL sound quality, and is simple to use. I have found the SB120 truly excels with cinema and gaming usage, yet can fall a bit thin with musical playback at high volume. Other than that, it is truly a versatile and nice sounding audio solution. Here’s an overview of how the JBL performs after a soft break in and over 40hrs of listening:Design: The SB120 is a compact 37” soundbar with both a simple remote and touch controls on the unit. It has built in stereo L / R speakers and a micro subwoofer encased in a tough black plastic body. Behind the speaker, the HDMI, Optical, USB and power supply ports are visible and easy to access. The top of the SB120 has power on/off, volume up/down and input selection with touch controls. With clean looks and intuitive controls, this speaker looks fantastic in any setup.Usability:There are four ways to hook the SB120 up for playback; HDMI Arc, Bluetooth, Optical or USB. Simply plug the unit in and select the proper input selection. All methods produced an instant connection and I found the Bluetooth to be fantastic for my wireless setup. This JBL is a versatile soundbar that works nicely with a TV, PC, laptop. tablet or even stand alone as a Bluetooth speaker.Sound Quality:Cinema: The SB120 produces excellent sound quality for movies, with crisp highs, clear full mids and solid bass impact. I was amazed at it’s ability to produce a true cinematic experience at mid to upper volume range, constantly reminding myself that it has no external sub!Gaming: The gaming experience on this JBL is vividly impressive and I can hear what’s going on around me. Everything from footsteps to water drops are heard in clear directional detail, with plenty of volume to keep you engaged and focused on your game.Music: This may be the only improvable area for me. The JBL SB120 has excellent sound quality, but it does best from around 50%-85% volume. The optimal EQ setting for most use cases seems to be the “movie” preset for musical playback, movies or gaming. The other presets simply reduce the bass and increase the mids and highs. At low volume, the “voice” button is great for a quick boost, to allow more clarity. At high volume, the bass begins to roll off, while the mids and highs increase. So, top volume may not be enough loudness for larger spaces. If you have a larger space, the option with a subwoofer would be a better fit. Like most JBL products, future firmware updates will improve this model with better EQ presets, top volume and tuning.Overall:All in all, I am definitely happy with the JBL SB120 as an audio system for my TV in my smaller sized living room. As can be seen in the pictures, it is next to a 5k+ sound system I use for listening and music production. I love to use the SB120 when I don’t want to power up the full setup, want quick convenient sound or simply just want some music in the background. So, as long as you don’t expect massive bass, this JBL will deliver musical quality with a more neutral sound signature. For cinema, the results are impressive with room filling clarity and solid bass impact, bringing films or video games to life. At a bargain price point, the JBL SB120 soundbar is a worthy choice for small to mid sized spaces, where a subwoofer or extra speakers are not convenient. Overall, the JBL SB120 is a great soundbar and I will be enjoying this speaker long term; JBL has never let me down yet!
First thing is that the mounting brackets work as intended. I suspect that difficulties reported by others have more to do with improper installation. Look up instructions on installing drywall anchors. No stud finder is needed, and would be useless anyway since it's unlikely the template will align with 2 different studs for most walls. But that is after all what dry wall anchors are for. Remember to use a leveler and also the supplied mounting template. That leads me to the topic of build quality. You have to see/ feel it to believe it. This soundbar is rock solid. From the metal grille to the piano finish, this does not look or feel like an entry-level sound bar. From the metal grille to the piano finish, this does not look or feel like an entry-level sound bar. Nothing feels loose or stitched together about it. Its tactile and aesthetic aspects inspire mind-easing confidence. The craftsmanship is also evidenced in the layout. The input panel is sunken, allowing for a hassle-free placement of the unit against the wall while an HDMI cable, the power cord, and an optical cable are all comfortably connected. No need for angled adapters. Not to mention an HDMI cable is included albeit one that is just long enough to reach a monitor no more than a few inches away. Still, it's a surprise that one was included at all. From first turn-on the bluetooth has been flawless. It has connected to 2 of my devices without any issues. It will stay connected for hours with no hiccups. And speaking of wireless connectivity, the remote has also proven solidly reliable in addition to having a minimalist layout with a maximization of functionality.Perhaps I shouldn't have deducted a star since it's likely that it's just that my ears are accustomed to higher tier electronics. It simply isn't prudent to judge with a critical ear anything that is entry-level. But, I can't help but be slightly disappointed with the audio quality. Again, that is not to say it will disappoint everyone. Studies have shown that most people prioritize bass. In that case this won't disappoint. This has about as much bass as I would expect from anything without an external subwoofer. That is, the internal subwoofer is plenty for a small room, which in this case is my home office. That's why I rate this as better for movies than for music. The internal subwoofer is plenty for adding just enough realism to transform the cinematic ambience of a small room. Voices are surprisingly clear in any format. While the remote control has an adjustment for voice clarity, I haven't needed to use it since conversation sounds crystal clear whether it's a movie or a podcast. While I have reservations about the music audio quality, I stream music through it for hours without any complaints while working in my home office. But, personally I'm not sure why it doesn't include even a basic auto-calibration feature. After all I wouldn't rule out that some of the highs are slightly impeded by bass resonance with the internal sub being so close to the wall. Auto-calibration would address that.I would suggest that JBL offer an app so that I can control it with my phone instead of the remote control. Overall when considering that it's an entry-level sound bar the quality and features make it competitive in its segment, easily exceeding my expectations.
I got this product to get a little more sound out of an inexpensive extra bedroom setup. I'm not normally a fan of soundbars, but for the space constraints, if I wanted more than crummy television sound, there isn't much of an option. When I unboxed this, I was surprised at how attractive it is, the piano gloss finish looks really nice. My usual habit with any speaker is to run it at a moderate volume level with some fairly heavy music for several (at least 10) hours before I try to do any actual critical listening. In this case that was an absolute necessity, because to be honest, out of the box, with music (admittedly not what this is really designed for) it sounded pretty awful. In this case that was an absolute necessity, because to be honest, out of the box, with music (admittedly not what this is really designed for) it sounded pretty awful. BUT, after that little break-in period, I actually became sort of impressed with the sound from this little guy. Obviously you aren't going to be able to fill a large room with sound from it, but in a small-ish, extra space it's really quite ok. When watching action movies, you do get a better sense of bass than you would ever expect. Dialogue from it is really good, an insane improvement over the cheap television speakers. If you're a big music listener, you'd probably be better served with a more dedicated speaker/setup, but it isn't objectionable if you stay around the 60-70% volume level. Overall, I think this is a pretty good little speaker, as long as you're not working with a large room and/or expecting huge sound.
I've been testing out the new Cinema SB120. The sound is impressive out of the gate. The speaker gets plenty loud for any media. I'm most impressed by it's bass. I have plenty of speakers, and some reserved for higher quality sound. Starting with music, this soundbar has sounded great whether the tune has very heavy bass, or if it's an acoustic with little to no bass. Using the Bluetooth feature was a cinch, and my phone connects easily to play music. With podcasts and TV, the speaker provides crystal clear sound. In movies, I feel this soundbar shines its brightest. It's hard to beat great bass when watching a movie. This soundbar handles the highs and lows so well, but again, the ability in the bass sets it apart for me.The soundbar, remote, and cables all seem well-made. The soundbar is solid, looks clean, and is easy to function. The control buttons are touch buttons. There are power, increase volume, decrease volume, and source buttons. It's very intuitive, and the touch buttons work with ease. The remote is intuitive as well, though with added buttons such as play/pause, equalizer settings, and voice control. It's always handy when the unit's buttons and it's remote's buttons work simply.Set up was a breeze. This comes with an power cable, HDMI cable, and an optical cable. It's as simple as plugging in the power, then connecting either the HDMI or optical cable to your TV or computer. Pop two batteries in the remote control, and you are set up. There is also mounting hardware in the box if you wish to do so.All in all, this is a great soundbar. The build quality is great, the soundbar is sleek, the sound quality is noticeably a premium, and it's all so easy to set up and use.
