A Great Shaver With a Couple of Caveats

I have not used the app over a long period of time though to see any improvements I have made.As great as this razor is and how much I like it, there are a couple of things that could use improvement. This shaver changes over USB, however it uses a special USB cable it comes with and not a standard one. This means that when travelling, you must carry this special cable with you, and you must find a place in your house to keep it. This defeats the point of changing over USB and is no different than carrying a special changer with you like other shavers. I would like to see this use a standard USB cable that I am already carrying with me when I travel. The other problem is this comes with no case. Not sure how you are supposed to travel with it without one. I’m going to have to find a case and order it separately which it should have come with to begin with.Overall, I would highly recommend it as it does a great job but really think it should include a case which I now have to buy and wish I didn’t have to carry around and store yet another cable.

Other positive side, I do like its charge by USB cable provided which is really useful choice, meaning I can be powered my shaver with any devices having USB charging slot, such as using my power bank, laptop etc which doesn’t need to be charge from power adapter wall plug. Some little downside for me, it doesn’t have integrated trimmer, not even an attachment trimmer included or either carry case, would be nice to have these as a extra bonus.Overall thoughts, A excellent shaver, fully washable, shave in wet or dry & excellent for travelling thanks to the USB cable. But just few missing pieces & ideal to have more longer shave time & faster full charge time as mentioned, that could make it the ultimate package shaver.

With the 3 heads that move it is incredibly easy to get a close shave everywhere without having to change shavers. The blades work great allowing a smooth finish without any cuts or scrapes. There is also a little button that pops the top open for easy cleaningI also liked the fast charging element as there is nothing worse than grabbing your shaver to realise it does not have any charge and the battery life of this product ... MoreFrom the moment I opened the box I was impressed. Apparently I've Been Shaving Wrong
1 February 2023

I've used Norelco shavers for a few years now, and generally found them to be great options for every day maintenance. This latest design doesn't do much to fundamentally change the game, but I'll admit that I found myself impressed by the added smarts. The design shouldn't be anything too surprising if you've seen the Norelco shavers before. The three shaving heads are all mounted on a flexible plate that bends its way around your cheeks, with a pop out trimmer on the rear for shaping and light beard maintenance. It's a bit more compact than the other Norelco shavers I've used, which required you to swap the head for the trimmer, but it is a little harder to see what you're doing. Shaving was comfortable and got almost everything with a minimum of irritation, though admittedly my skin is already used to shavers of this style. Someone who's just starting to shave or making the switch from a foil shaver might want to make use of the mode that gradually ramps up the speed over a few days to let you get used to it, as otherwise I can say from experience that these can produce some pretty impressive razor rash. The standout feature here though is the fact that it's app-connected. As a user of a Philips smart toothbrush I was a little disappointed that I couldn't link it to the app I was already using, but on the plus side the "groom tribe" app is pretty compact and well laid out. Once you've paired it it can monitor a few different things to generate a score and tips for improvment. I figured, having been shaving with razors like this for years, that I would do fairly well. My score of 44 suggested otherwise. Apparently I was spending too long and moving the shaver the wrong way. The next morning I adjusted my technique a bit to move in smaller circles as the app had recommended. My score is still not great, but I'll admit that I did notice far fewer spots where I'd missed a bit of stubble. I don't know if the app is something I'll be using regularly, but for now at least I'm definitely appreciating the recommendations it's producing. There are a few downsides I feel I should point out. To start, this version of the shaver comes without any kind of charging dock and a proprietary USB cable. Since I, like many people, do not have a handy USB port in my bathroom I've been having to take it out to plug into my desktop to charge up. There's also no travel case included (though its shape is similar enough that it would fit into the one that came with its predecessor.) All you get is a cap to cover up the blades. Still, these are pretty minor issues with an otherwise excellent product.

Close Shave with Impressively No Irritation
5 February 2023

I was excited to receive the Norelco 7200 as my current Norelco razor is about 5 years old and I was sure they had made some improvements in that length of time, and boy was I right. Identifying their shavers by number has always been a bit of a mystery to me. On the box and shaver body this product is referred to as “Series 7000”, “Shaver 7200”, and “Model: S7887”. I’m sure it makes sense to them, but causes confusion to the consumer when looking for a specific product. No matter what they call it, this shaver delivers on the one thing you buy a shaver to do - produce a close shave with minimal irritation. In the box you will find the shaver, a charging cord, a cover to protect the shaver heads, a small cleaning brush, and a user manual in English and Spanish. ... MoreI was excited to receive the Norelco 7200 as my current Norelco razor is about 5 years old and I was sure they had made some improvements in that length of time, and boy was I right. I’ll pick my nits now as a couple small things annoyed me when I first opened the box. The charging cord is a stiff, straight, 28 inch long cord that keeps its folded up shape once removed from the twist-tie. AND gone is the wall-wart charger - it is now just a cord - with Norelco’s proprietary plug for their shaver on one end and an old-school USB-A plug on the other end. You have to provide the wall adapter to charge the shaver. Probably not a big deal nowadays as most people have accumulated a few of these from cell phones and what-not, but I still found it a disappointment. I really miss the old Norelco chargers with the coiled cord - they were easy to store and you had what you needed to use the shaver all in the box. I should also mention that the proprietary plug for the shaver is similar, but now different enough from what was used in the past that the connection is not interchangeable with older shavers. And with the call for universal connectors starting in Europe (where Philips is based), it surprises me that the USB end is an old fashioned A connecter rather than the more modern USB-C. Also, like their more recent offerings (I do go back a long way with Norelco) you cannot use the shaver with the charging cord plugged in to an electrical outlet. The shaver works with an app for your cell phone called Groom Tribe. There is virtually no mention made of it on the outside of the packaging, and to be honest, I didn’t really find much usefulness in it, but the articles and videos it contains on shaving techniques, problems, and proper use of the shaver and accessories are probably useful for the young man just starting out needing to shave or for someone totally new to the electric shaver experience. The app will visually coach you on proper technique in real time while using the shaver, but I found it hard to monitor my phone on the bathroom counter while shaving. The user manual is fairly well written and has good illustrations to help with cleaning, changing cutting heads, and understanding proper use of the shaver. The Shaver 7200 contains what Norelco calls “SenseIQ” technology which according to their literature and web site appears to be a combination of “Nano SkinGlide” coating, “Motion Control” sensor, and “Power Adapt” sensor. I really do believe the Nano SkinGlide coating does something, as in the past I would get red, blotchy skin irritation from using my Norelco shavers, especially on my neck. I am a few shaves in with the 7200 and I have yet to experience this issue. It has been noticeably more comfortable to use this shaver than others in my past. The Motion Control sensor is to give coaching feedback via the phone app on proper technique to ultimately have the user make fewer passes over their skin but still obtaining a close shave. The Power Adapt sensor monitors beard density and will automatically increase power of the shaver when needed. My old Series 5000 shaver had a power boosting feature that could be manually turned on via a separate button, but having this monitored and adjusted automatically is a great feature.Cleaning after each shave is accomplished by opening the shaving head via a simple press of one button and rinsing it with warm water. A more thorough cleaning involving removing of each cutter head separately should be done once a month, again using warm water. Norelco does offer a “Quick Clean Pod” cleaning system, but this shaver did not come with it - it is available with this same shaver in a complete kit. The old Norelco aerosol cleaning and lubricating spray is no longer mentioned in the manual, so it appears to me that lubrication of the cutting heads is not needed. Replacing the cutting heads once a year is still recommended as it has been for as long as I can remember. After being presented in a different form factor (a separate trimmer head that replaced the shaving head) in the past, the built-in “pop-up trimmer” is back and available on the entire Norelco shaver line-up. This is a welcome change for those users that need this feature. There is a provision to lock the power button when packing the shaver for travel. The motion sensor in the shaver will also light up the battery charge indicator when you pick up the shaver to remind you if it is nearing the time to charge it. When fully charged, Norelco states that the 7200 will deliver about 60 minutes of run time, which will be pretty close to a month for most users once you have perfected your shaving technique.I have to confess, in the past I have been a “hybrid” shaver and used my Norelco on the area around my mouth and under my nose, and used a razor with a blade for my neck and cheeks. This was to prevent razor nicks in the hard to shave areas around my mouth, and to give a closer shave with less irritation on my neck than I was getting from my old Norelco. With the closeness and less irritation provided by the Shaver 7200, it looks like I will be changing to using the electric shaver for my complete shave going forward. Thank you Norelco for continuing to strive for improvements in your product, and for actually achieving them rather than just creating a bunch of marketing hype.

Convenient, USB should be standard on BOTH ends.
8 February 2023

I switched from traditional razors to electric razors a few years ago as a matter of simple convenience. I’ve not yet met an electric razor that shaves as close as a traditional razor That said, while electric razors fall short in closeness of shave they make up for in convenience – with an electric razor and no shaving cream I can get a reasonable shave and facial touch up pretty much anywhere, anytime – on the road or anywhere else. I’m also a bald-ish guy so I use my electric razors on my head once a week.I travel a good bit as well and it has always been a minor nuisance to carry an charger just for my electric razor that I might need to charge once a week if that, and this is where the Norelco 5000x comes in; this model comes with and charges with a standard ... MoreI switched from traditional razors to electric razors a few years ago as a matter of simple convenience. I’m also a bald-ish guy so I use my electric razors on my head once a week.I travel a good bit as well and it has always been a minor nuisance to carry an charger just for my electric razor that I might need to charge once a week if that, and this is where the Norelco 5000x comes in; this model comes with and charges with a standard USB A slot so there’s no longer a need to carry a special adapter just for one device. The one caveat is that you DO still need to use a special cable since the connector on the shaver side is still unique to the razor. If I had one design suggestion it would be for Norelco to put a standard USB-C port on the razor itself to completely alleviate the need for a proprietary cable. As-is it’s a step in the right direction for sure, just that last bit to go.Shave wise this did better than my previous electric razor though that may have been just because the razor heads are new. What I saw in the box suggests the 5000x shave heads should be replaced once a year so set your calendar accordingly. My shaves with the 5000x were good but not extraordinary, I usually had to go over the same spots repeatedly a few times before the area felt reasonably clear, especially on my neck and jawline. This isn’t unusual in my experience, I see it as the tradeoff for shave-anywhere convenience and needing to replace my blades only once a year.Cleanup was easy, just open and rinse and leave it out to dry. The trimmer attachment worked well to trim and tidy the edges of my goatee and mustache. Overall, this is an affordable travel companion and daily use razor.

Finally a painless, bump-free rotary razor
2 February 2023

I was reluctant to request this Norelco rotary razor because I’ve had multiple bad experiences with Norelco rotary razors in the past. In addition to twisting and pulling hairs, previous Norelco rotary razors caused me to also break out in numerous painful razor bumps. The electric rotary razors caused just as many bumps and ingrown hairs as a manual razor. From the moment I powered on and pressed the 7200 against my face, I could tell this was going to be a completely different rotary razor experience. For starters, it feels much more gentle against my skin. Gone is the painful twisting and pulling of whiskers of past Norelco razors. The 7200 feels more like a flat foil razor against the skin. It’s smooth, cuts cleanly, and doesn’t pull or twist whiskers at all. ... MoreI was reluctant to request this Norelco rotary razor because I’ve had multiple bad experiences with Norelco rotary razors in the past. It’s smooth, cuts cleanly, and doesn’t pull or twist whiskers at all. Shaving with the 7200 is completely pain-free. It is wet and dry shave capable although the skinglide coating works perfectly fine for me dry. Like most razors, the 7200 has a pop up long hair trimmer for touching up longer facial hair and sideburns. Norelco suggests allowing a few weeks for the shaver to fully adapt to your skin. I’ve only been using it for under a week but I already like the results so far.The 7200 is compatible with the Philips shaving app which can be installed on a smartphone or tablet. The app pairs to the shaver through Bluetooth and provides useful tips and suggestions for optimal shaving results and comfort. It also has guided shaving modes for helping achieve the best results. Cleaning the 7200 after use is quick and easy. It has a convenient one push eject button that causes the hinged head to pop open for cleaning. I don’t use the optional cleaning pods but instead brush and blow away loose hair, followed by a water rinse and a quick spray of disinfecting, blade cleaning, lubricant spray after the head dries. The 7200 is the rotary razor that people like me have been seeking. It’s a solid option for easily irritated skin and skin prone to razor bumps. If it can shave me without pain and bumps, I’m confident there aren’t too many faces out there that couldn’t tolerate this razor.

I like this head design the best…
11 February 2023

Philips Norelco Shaver 7200 >> I like this head design the best…Have been using an older Norelco with the same type of 3-blade floating head, and much prefer this style to the “fixed head” and “foil” electric shavers. To each his own and I know of others that prefer the foil – so your experience may be different. It is interesting how a person’s beard “gets used to” a particular type of shaver, and I found this design works best with slow circular motion – as long as I can keep from getting in a hurry the morning shave doesn’t take very long. When I start rubbing the shaver back and forth or go too fast, that’s when I have to go back and keep at it to get the best results. Going slow and circular seems to work the best. When I start rubbing the shaver back and forth or go too fast, that’s when I have to go back and keep at it to get the best results. Going slow and circular seems to work the best. Of course there is always the opportunity for a quick “touch up” in the evening before going out, which is another nice thing about a good electric shaver. The best features on this for me are the wet/dry capability and the sideburn trimmer. Since I don’t have to worry about getting it wet, cleaning is easier by popping off the top, brush out the hairs, and rinse.Charging is easy and a charge easily lasts me a week – probably longer but the shaver is new and I haven’t had to recharge it yet after a week, so I’ll let you know. Plug in the charger and lay it down by the sink – no worries about getting wet and a few hours on charge and ready for another week (or longer) of cord-free shaving.I have read some negative reviews on this shaver (and most electric shavers will include some negative experiences) , but don’t understand why folks are having the problems they describe. Go slow, don’t push the shaver into your face, circular motion – I have never had problems with pulling hairs or irritation except when my older shaver’s blades started getting dull. On a brand new shaver – never had a problem. Again, to each his own and for me, this is a good shave.Greetings from Central Georgia!

Nicely done

I have struggled in the past with electric shaversBut I decided to give it another go with the Philips Shaver 5000X, when I opened the box I found a modern electric shaver. I have only have I bit of stubble as I shave most day so I let it grow for a few extra days to really test it.I was interested to see how this shaver would handle that task. My first experience was as a dry shave to see if it burnt my face like others I have had in the past. The shaver provided a closer shave than any other electronic shaver I have ever used. It was a smooth and comfortableto use . After shaving to a very close shave and wow it is a fantastic shaverAfter applying shaving cream the shaver worked just as well in the wet as it did dry. The shaver is simple to take apart to clean and dry after every use. I will be using it more often in the future as it makes quick work of my stubble The shaver has a charging cord provided, this needs to be plugged into a USB port to charge which means it does not charge from my standard wall out in my bathroomTo be fair I can live that. All in all a fantastic bit of kit

Quality shaver plus; USB charging cable is useful
11 June 2024

My shaving routine involves a wet shave in the shower with an electric shaver and then a shave with a normal manual shaver afterwards to finish the task. I find that no electric shaver can ever fully remove 100% of my facial hair and so I always need to shave a small amount afterwards. This shaver probably offers the closest to clean-shaven that I've had from several units but it's still not 100%. The shaver is relatively compact compared to others I've used. Also having a charger that has a USB plug (albeit then in to a proprietary connector) is very useful when travelling to save having to take a bulkier charger. The head easily flips up to allow cleaning which is very useful. A key thing to note too; you must charge this before first usage as it won't turn on ... MoreMy shaving routine involves a wet shave in the shower with an electric shaver and then a shave with a normal manual shaver afterwards to finish the task.
