The Huggies newborn nappies have now received a feature upgrade of a zinc enriched component to the inner layer of the nappy, this is the textured bumpy layer. We had just started using the standard version a few week’s earlier so it was a great opportunity to make a comparison between the old and new. I’m terms of appearance and design you wouldn’t be able to tell them apart, same cute designs and structure, the new skin protection version did feel ever so slightly softer and had a slightly different odour when you open the bag of them. I’m terms of appearance and design you wouldn’t be able to tell them apart, same cute designs and structure, the new skin protection version did feel ever so slightly softer and had a slightly different odour when you open the bag of them. The older version could smell a stronger chemical whereas the new seems to have a gentler or more pleasant scent. It may have been the batch that we got in the box, but all the left leg holes had the exterior frill protect layer doubled over in the manufacturing process, so it didn’t poof out as they normally do and as it did on the right leg side. The interior elasticised layer has been but to the test and held its ground against some significant number twos. As mentioned previously if you weren’t told you wouldn’t know or be able to identify any zinc layer, but don’t be fooled. After several days and many many nappy changes (never ending as all mummas know) we have noticed that the slight redness she used to get on her booty has cleared up nicely, which must be the nappy as no other changes to her daily routine have been made to ensure less variables. Huggies does make a hefty claim of up to 12 hours leakage protection, however we have yet to make it past 5-6 hours without the nappy becoming so wet that she starts to soak through, so don’t expect to be able to get a full night out of one nappy, we usually change 2-3 times a night with these to achieve a no leak evening. Overall a great disposable nappy, the skin protection upgrade does seem to have an impact, so please be aware should your bubs have any reason to not have zinc on them, otherwise would definitely recommend to add to your nappy bag.
