Amazing, small tweaks would make it perfect

You're also able to assign things to profiles but then not have to save them in the software, so you could do work creating something and assign it to a profile, but if you forget to save it as its own customization, you'd have to redo it from scratch to tweak it. You're also in danger of accidentally overwriting it with another, which again could at least help be prevented if there was some indication of which customizations are assigned to which profiles or just that the profiles have been assigned something already.- This is potentially my own fault, but when I ordered this I thought it was a wireless keyboard. Turns out it's just that the USB-C cord is detachable. I misread that as wireless, then I didn't see anywhere else that that wasn't the case, so I maintained that assumption until it arrived. I was a bit disappointed by that but overall not a huge deal. I am hoping they make a wireless version of this keyboard in the future as it's amazing otherwise & would round it out to have that option just in case or for traveling, but just for other people who may be misreading things as well-- THIS KEYBOARD IS NOT WIRELESS.- One last thing I would like to see improved upon is the secondary legends. They are extremely close to the main legends, which sometimes adds a bit of confusion and messes up the otherwise perfect clarity. This would be better if they were spaced a bit more. I also think it would be cool if the secondary legends were noticeably smaller than the primary ones. I sometimes get confused which one will type with & without shift, this would help me out quite a bit in scenarios where I peek at the keyboard to type something I don't usually type. On top of those things, I would like to see some experimentation with putting the secondary legends underneath or above as well (or even given the option to customize small aspects like this), especially combined with them being noticeably smaller than the primary ones. It would be sweet to find that optimal combination that is most efficient & is most clear, then have the option to do that even if it's not the standard way. Some other things that I would love to see added / improved upon:- A low profile version of this specific keyboard. Literally just cutting the keys in half to help with some wrist strain- As mentioned, wireless capability- Addition of a volume scroll wheel similar to the one on the G915- Separate buttons for different profiles rather than mapping them to F1-F3- Certain secondary legends that are not illuminated by RGB on the PBT cap version, but are illuminated on the ABS version. Would be nice to see those on top of the keys and illuminated instead of on the front of the keys and not illuminated for both versions.

Excellent keyboard questionable software

To start, i love the build quality and the feel of this keyboard. It doubles as my work from home keyboard and gaming keyboard. Everything is very responsive, only missed keys are due to my own clumsiness. It has some heft to it so i dont feel like im going to break it if hitting it too hard. The downside is the software/on-board memory. I'm not sure if it's one or both, but the settings keep resetting. Since i haven't done much with assigned keys its been more annoying than critical issue, but it is an issue. If you plan on doing multiple profiles with assigned keys do some research first into this issue, I may just be unlucky. If you dont care about that and just an excellent functioning keyboard I'd recommend it.

In fact, it is one of the slimmest keyboard I've ever used which is impressive considering that it packs a rechargeable battery and various antennas. I find it very ergonomic to use, unlike the taller mechanical keyboards that are popular among keyboard enthusiasts.- The keys are quieter and feature a lower acutation force than the MX Keys. The MX Keys are already known as a quiet keyboard but the HP970/975 are even quieter. On top of that, the keys require a bit less force to register, meaning you don't have to press them down on them as hard as the Logitech.Cons:- The plastic build quality is touted as being made from recycled material. While it does look nice initially, the chassis scratches up easily which is something to consider if you intend to travel with it. There are no cases or pouches and the bright silver doesn't help hide the scratches either.- The silver colour is very bright. In bright daylight, the keys are harder to see with it on. If you have a desk lamp or monitor bar like I do, the keyboard will reflect a lot of light which is distracting. In lower lighting conditions, I'm forced to turn on the backlighting and turn off my monitor bar to be able to use the keyboard comfortably which darkens the room quite a bit.- You can use HP software to remap the function keys only. As the keyboard doesn't have onboard memory, you need to have the software running in the background for the settings to work. So, if you use different computers, which this keyboard is intended for, you will need to have it installed on all of them. This is not the case for the MX Keys for which the settings can be saved on the keyboard.- Because there is no onboard memory, every time you start up the keyboard, the backlighting is on and the function lock is off by default, meaning the F1-F12 keys operating as alternate functions (volume up/down, media controls, etc.). As a heavy Excel user, I need to lock the function keys every time I turn on the keyboard, on top of having to turning off the backlighting. This gets old.- Instead of the function and control keys to the right of the spacebar, HP decided to replace them with an emoji and dictation keys. Those are both functions that I don't use and that can't beremapped by HP's software. This is a lost opportunity and a waste of space.- The downside of the low actutation force and silent keys is a lack of feedback. The MX Keys offer a bit more feedback than these. Also, because the HP has flat keys instead of the "dished" design of the MX Keys, the typing experience suffers from it.Overall, despite having more cons than pros, I think this keyboard deserves a 4/5 rating but only at the discounted price I paid for it (80CAD). At the retail price, you are better off opting for the MX Keys. And if you want to pay even less than the discounted price and don't need backlighting, I would suggest looking at Lenovo. They have a similar keyboard (with scissor switches) that costs even less than this. I am currently comparing both and might return the HP.

Good entry into gaming mechanical keyboards
28 July 2023

Bought this to replace my old gaming mechanical keyboard. I bought this brand specifically because of both the price and the fact it's a brand that I can trust. HyperX is known for having good value and quality, which this keyboard is a great example of. I picked the aqua switches mainly because it's on sale and readily available, but it's a good switch for both typing and gaming. If you prefer linear switches, go with the red HyperX switches but the aqua switches are still a solid option for those preferring tactile. I used linear switches before and tactile may take some time getting used to yet it in the end, it's a satisfying experience. Highly recommend - It's a (4.9 < 5)
22 December 2023

Smooth and comfortable experience with his keyboard. A bit of a calming Click. Very light and satisfying With no aggressiveness. Very responsive and the RGB is bright with a handful of pattern options. Very rigid design, made of high quality aluminum with a smooth Matte finish. Mine has been beaten up for over a year now and has obtained a few scratches and dings from backpacks and dropping it, etc. However, functionality remains perfectly unchanged. Only downside is that the key-switchs are soldered to the PCB and aren't hot swapable. So... Without a Micro soldering kit, a steady hand, and loads of patience, you'll Be using the keys it comes with for it's lifetime. Overall, I see no need to replace the keys because they're great and I love this product.

HyperX Alloy Origins (Aqua switch) has superb build quality; NGenuity software needs major work

It may not be ideal in a quiet office environment, but that is really up to you to decide if it suits. The aqua switch seems custom for the HyperX and I would like to see it obtain more adoption, because it is a fantastic switch. My Logitech G915 "Clicky" is a higher-pitched and softer click, but I find the click of the HyperX to be even more satisfying, reminding me of older keyboards from the 1980s and 1990s. The small footprint is appreciated; there is not much of a border around the keys, so it is about as compact a keyboard you can get for a full 108-key keyboard. The full RGB lighting is very bright and vivid. I replaced my keycaps with pudding caps, and it makes the lighting even more pronounced. Thankfully you can turn the brightness down in software, which is nice. The pudding caps do reveal some fallout of the light uniformity, but the included keycaps are perfect and should satisfy most users. The weakest element of this is the NGenuity software, which currently is a Microsoft App only, leaving Mac and Linux users out of the full functionality for this keyboard. Not a problem for me, but it's a major flaw. The software as it stands now is just okay, although not as robust or fully featured as similar applications from Logitech or Corsair. It offers 3 profiles, and you can layer different effects on top of each other to create interesting and unique styles, although more often than not this creates a mess, but creative types will like this feature. It's just too bad they are limiting so many users from their hardware with the decision to use a Microsoft-only application.Overall, for the price, it is a very strong keyboard with much to like. It has features that typists will love, and the RGB effects and replaceable keycaps for gamers to enjoy. The lighting effects are very good although limited by the software which is the weakest element and drops this review rating down a star. I enjoy using this keyboard, and it's great as a travel keyboard thanks to a small footprint, and a detachable and replaceable USB-C cable. I contemplated giving this 5 stars, but the software is really the problem here. If you are a Microsoft user, you probably won't have any complaints, but I have to dock it a star for the lack of inclusion for Linux and Mac users.

Not good quality and poor firmware updates
3 April 2024

2 times I had the same problem. Keys at the bottom row starting to fail. First Ctrl key. Then Alt, Fn and SpaceBar. I fixed it the first time installing NGENUITY but after 6 months is starting to fail again and I'm done. The keyboard is on pristine conditions and the malfunction seems to be firmware/driver related. I don't need this problems from an expensive piece of technology. Not reliable for someone who works with the computer. First and last HyperX product.

Technically the Elitebook 840 G10 works as expected with minimal setup issues. Biggest negative was the intense bombardment by the various providers: Microsoft 365 was especially persistent in offering specific software much of which I had no use having already other options on hand. More precise information should be provided about HP Wolf Security such as length of free period and what it actually does. It would have prevented me from having to beat off better known providers such as Norton and McAfee. I came very close to being seduced by McAfee but became curious about Wolf which was also pestering me without enlarging in any way what it could provide. Finally I got Wolf setup after about a month. Should have done it much sooner.Keyboard was another problem: ... MoreTechnically the Elitebook 840 G10 works as expected with minimal setup issues. Finally I got Wolf setup after about a month. Should have done it much sooner.Keyboard was another problem: trying to get the right one. The Canadian English kept printing É for ?. After a couple of days by trial and error I finally got a standard key board not Canadian but USA English. I managed to scrounge up a USA 2014 version of Quicken from Etsy which works and ended up with Thunderbird as Windows Live Mail was seriously dated. Setting up Thunderbird by the way is not for the faint of heart. Took me about two weeks and I almost lost all my e-mail archives in the process. Now after about five weeks since delivery, I have everything working well except for my HP Scanner G4010. Regrettably, HP cannot supply completely updated software and drivers. There is a partial driver available but lacking is the stuff to operate the scanner seamlessly. Something called VueScan 64 will work but the software is both creaky and expensive so I shall be buying either an Epson or Canon device at less cost than Vue Scan wants for their software package. I note that HP has vacated the inexpensive scanner market and now offers nothing like the Epson Perfection V19 or Canon CanoScan LiDE400.By the way I pretty much anticipated all the foregoing issues. I am not new to HP as my last device was an Elitebook 8540W. Yes it is still working but s l o w l y. Once I am confident in the new Elitebook I'll strip the old one and off to the dump. It was bought December 2, 2010 so it had a good run once we replaced the hard drive in 2011. As a personal non business owner, yes, I am happy with the new device. It is my eighth laptop i.e. RAMBYTE 8.

Should be improved

Mouse and keyboard combo was just ok. mouse is very light, and compared to my previous one from Lenovo which was weighted one - HP mouse felt less precise, and less premium.Keyboard didn't work well unfortunately. First of all - key travel distance and pressure required to be applied is too big compared to my current keyboard. in 21st century when everything needs to be "effortless and instantaneous" it was too much work and readjustment, but main issue i faced, and i hope this was just my case, is that keyboard, despite me typing, wouldn't put first 2-3 words into document, which is not good at all. unfortunately was a return despite great job HP team id trying to figure out the issue

Very happy technically, a couple of human-factors items could be improved

Overall, I'm happy with this monitor with respect to technical performance, e.g., screen clarity, etc. It's the third 4k monitor I've used - the first two are a bit larger, and I needed a smaller one this time. When setting up, I mistook one of the buttons on the back of the monitor for the power button, so was a bit panicked when it wouldn't turn on. (The power button is very discreetly at the bottom of the monitor, which is sometimes a problem when lifting the monitor since that is where I would hold monitor to lift.)Speaking of lifting, the highest monitor position does not clear the top of my laptop screen, so I had to put this thing on the thickest wood board I could find. I'm glad the back of the monitor is not all black, since it is visible where I have it ... MoreOverall, I'm happy with this monitor with respect to technical performance, e.g., screen clarity, etc. It's the third 4k monitor I've used - the first two are a bit larger, and I needed a smaller one this time. When setting up, I mistook one of the buttons on the back of the monitor for the power button, so was a bit panicked when it wouldn't turn on.
