Got great reviews. Looks great but it ends there. A pro musician wouldn't play this onstage. The p'ups suck and the guitar sounds cheap. I am definitely returning my JEM ASAP, and hopefully finding a better guitar.

Specs say it doesn't have a maple cap of some sort but the bridge pickup does a great job at exuding what I'd describe as that classic Dimarzio Fred sound. It's mahogany but it doesn't sound as fat as a Les Paul would. The need to swap out Quantums for Dimarzios can be delayed because of the enjoyable tonal characteristics you can explore using the stock pups. You adjust them lower and you get a cleaner, EMG-HZ-ish kind of sound. You raise them and it gets bluesy (and muddy) like a '57 Epi alnico classic pup. The build quality was fantastic. Been collecting Epiphones (Slash Rosso Corsa LP, an IBJL Casino, Joe Pass Emperor II, etc) and it seems the QA guys in Quingdao aren't too keen on addressing fret buzz issues, even on high-end signature models. You lower the Floyd a bit and you've got an amazing guitar with the potential to do everything that Vai does on his Ibanez.

I have had my eye on these guitars for many years. I play guitar for hobby, and love of guitar music, and could not justify purchasing the top quality Jem. I decided to buy the Jr and just update it myself if needed. It arrived well packaged and no damage at all. I tuned it up and played it, the action was high. I played a few dive bombs and noticed a weird feel to it. Looking closely I noticed the saddle was not screwed into the body deep enough and allowing the bridge to move awkwardly. Screwing it down fixed that and lowered the action. I was surprised that after that there was still no fret buzz anywhere. So I got back to playing. Testing the tremolo again pulling back on it, the "A" string popped out of the saddle. I then fixed that and then found everything ... MoreI have had my eye on these guitars for many years. It just seems Ibanez in Indonesia, cannot screw things in properly, or set up a guitar well, but if you give it a little TLC, it is in fact a Jem to play.

I noticed Ibanez no longer offers RG450DX models with the Edge Zero II on them, they now have this standard DL model installed. That's too bad because the Edge Zero II is a very good tremolo bar IMO. I guess they're trying to cut costs on the lower end RG models.The Quantum pickups sound very good, they're warmer, more articulate and have lower output than Infinity pickups, I think the neck pickup is a tad too weak, at least for my taste. The bridge pickup screams.The paint is nice, there's some dirt in the finish on mine but I really don't care.All in all it's a nice guitar but I don't think it's worth the retail price. I have a used RG450M that I picked up for about half of what the Jem JR goes for new and the RG450M is the better guitar, hands down, even with the Infinity pickups. Better neck, better bridge, the whole guitar feels more solid.If you buy one of these try to buy one when MF is having their 15% off deal.

Both times fixing this problem, it was the same issue. The springs in the trem were stretched too far and were deformed. Replacing the springs alleviated the problem both times, that and finding the sweet spot.My adventures with Ibanez started with the Jem Jr. SP, which I ordered to see if I would like a thinner profile. I did and then I ordered a Premium Jem, which I liked. And my daughter liked the look of it, so I ordered her a white Jem JR.

No buzz, no defects, only a great example of good guitar manufacturing! only needed tuning and I could tune from the tremolo only without having to unlock the nut.I love this guitar. That MIJ guitar had so much power and projection, I couldn't believe that a Floyd Rose guitar with a bolt on neck could sound like that but, it did. The JEM Jr does not do that. It does have that slightly tinny sound of the cheaper models and the pickups aren't anything to write home about BUT, the feel is there. The fretboard is slightly wider than the prestige that I had but the JEM has that amazing super thin and flat neck that I love, the body is light and extremely balanced and it is very articulate. I think that a pickup swap would do wonders for this instrument. Overall, I must say that I am pleased with the purchase. it isn't the best thing I have ever played but it is a long way from the worst also. I believe that it's worth the $500 asking price and really, in that range I don't think you could do much better if you're looking for a super fun and easy to play shredder. I would buy it again and I will enjoy the crap out of it while I have it.
I've read a few negative comments here on the Jem Jr. Seems to be written by people who paid 400-500 for this but expected it to be some "miracle" axe that made them play like Vai himself or something. Everyone needs to remember this is basically a RG450 with a few changes. Obviously, the monkey grip and inlays are the only real difference everything else is basically the same. So you pay about 100 bucks more for the monkey grip, tree of life inlay and the lions claw tremolo cavity. That's the only difference here. I've owned the 450dx and I loved it. I saw someone said the neck was "cheap" it's a Wizard 3, just like almost all mid level Ibanez super strats. Also saw some say it felt "Cheap". Not sure why that would be. Others complained about fret buzz, knobs being stiff to turn etc. Folks.. quit going buying guitars and rushing home thinking you're the guitar is ready for a sold out arena. it's not. You have to get them set up first! It doesn't take much, if you don't know exactly how, pay the guy at the counter a few extra bucks to set it up, you'll be thankful you did. Oh and the quantum pups for me are a more solid set of pups than the infinities. But if you want it to have a great sound and tone, take it to a shop and put in a set of seymours or Dimarzio's not a big deal. This is a solid guitar with Vai's cosmetics and a very affordable price. What more do people want?
This product has a great tone, used it with my Van Halen 5150 Distortion petal and was able to go from bluesy Single Coil sounds to soft jazz with no distortion/reverbs and heavy metal. I picked it up in the store and immediately wanted it, super thin neck and solid pickups, I thought it was a steal! Brought it home and it was locked/in tune. Keep in mind, this guitar is brand new. The springs were NOT worn out, the Floating Tremolo by Ibanez just can't keep in tune. I brought it home and had to tighten the springs, a lot actually.
