Wanted an RG550 since I first saw them in the '90s. Does not disappoint in any way. High quality finish for the money. Trem is better than the cheaper edge versions on some other mid-range ibanez. v8 and v7 pickups arent bad for off the shelf and unless you are fussy (like me) you wont need to change them, although they sound a little thin on totally clean settings. The colour is almost luminous, pictures dont give a true feel really, its almost like '80s luminous socks! Switch gear and pots are smooth and solid. The star of this instrument is the neck. Action was pretty good out of the box, just a smidge high for my liking but very playable. Frets are very large and allow a lot of fast finger work and accurate bends. Im finding myself nailing bends especially well. ... MoreWanted an RG550 since I first saw them in the '90s. Does not disappoint in any way. High quality finish for the money. Im finding myself nailing bends especially well. This neck is better than my s420, the scale length feels a little longer than the 420 (I havent looked up the specs) but there is plenty of room at the top to fully exploit all 24 frets; the 420 feels a bit of a squeeze right at the top compared. Tuners feel very solid and the locking nut is placed with precision; no noticeable pitch change when tightening the nut bolts. This is a very comfortable and usable instrument out of the box. Serious pro's will probably want a setup and the fret edges stoning a little.

Overall:This guitar was a total impulse buy and I’m so glad I bought it! It’s easily worth twice the price of it. Can’t get too many mid tier guitars that are neck thru with decent pickups and a 5-way switch that has a fast and slim neck at this price. I mostly play baritone 6 strings and 7 strings but I needed a 25.5” scale for drop C and this is perfect for it with 10-54 strings. I did upgrade the nut with a Graphtech tusq nut and Hipshot locking tuners with knurled tuner buttons and looks even more badass while staying in perfect tune! I have an Ibanez rgib6 Iron Label 28” baritone and this is up there with that as far as quality and playability. The stock pickups aren’t bad at all and definitely surprised me cuz that’s usually the first thing I’ll change in an ... MoreOverall:This guitar was a total impulse buy and I’m so glad I bought it! You won’t be disappointed at all and if for some reason you are then zZounds has a return policy within like 30-45 days so you won’t be stuck with a guitar you don’t love.

I play jazz standards. Having acoustic archtops in the past I stopped using them because of their dark and sometimes dry sound. I switched to semi hollows allowing me to play more styles with no feedback. However, this does not seem to be a problem with the AF 95 Fm. I found it to have a full balanced sound with great tone. Nice slim neck and easy playability. I used it for small jazz rehearsal at a low volume. No feedback and very professional sounding. I prefer flat wound strings and tried them, but to my surprise I believe the nickel wound sound better on this guitar. In closing a good acoustic archtop for the price.
I really like the guitar though I had to do some major setup on the neck. It buzzed on almost every fret. A few days later I had to make some more adjustments. It is fine now. It plays well and sounds good. When I ordered this back in Jan 2022, I liked the look of this guitar, the pickups in this guitar and the country of origin (Japan). Japanese built guitars resell for more than those from other Asian countries. This guitar is made in Indonesia. The box says it and the sticker inside the body says it. I told them that they need to change it but so far, no changes on their site. It makes me question every Ibanez that Musician's Friend claims to be built in Japan. My guess is that no Ibanez under a certain price is made in Japan but I can't prove that. I should have ... MoreI really like the guitar though I had to do some major setup on the neck. Sound:The stock pickups sound great especially with high gain. Nice crunch and break up.Features:For me the reason that I bought this model is that it is the least expensive way to get a real Edge tremolo. I can do subtle things with the Edge that I can’t do on an Original Floyd Rose. The bar is easier to position and it stays where ever you put it. As long as the torsion bushings on the bar aren’t worn out, the pop in bar is neither too tight or too sloppy.Value:This guitar is worth every penny.Manufacturer Support:I did not use Ibanez customer service and I did order half a dozen sets of torsion bushings, but had to order them from different places. The Wow Factor:I love the color of this one, Desert Sun Yellow.Overall:In the last 2 months I’ve ... MoreSound:The stock pickups sound great especially with high gain. I must say that this guitar is the most bang for the buck out of any of my 21 guitars that I own.Got more than 200 bucks off on mine as it was sold as a slight blemish. When the guitar arrived, I noticed it did have a hairline crack in the paint on the bass side at the neck pocket. That was the only flaw I could find and it probably would have happened anyway if I would have got a “new” one. This is the shreddiest guitar that I have. The only thing that I had to address is that the 6th fret was a little proud. Other than that the fret job was good. All the frets were shiny and smooth and no fret sprout. This is the guitar that is at the price point where if you spend more money, you aren’t going to get much better. And the fit and finish were top notch.
You get a lot for the price, solid construction and feel, heavier than I thought it would be (not a bad thing, imo) hardware solid, very sleek overall, what I've come to expect from Ibanez, never had a bad experience with their products. Came with roundwounds, not a good thing on a fretless bass (chews up fingerboard). Installed flatwounds for minimal cost. The only issue I've had, the low E string sounds rather muddy. Could be the flatwounds, could be the bass boost/cut pot. There doesn't appear to be any way to adjust the pot from inside the control cavity (wiring is very orderly btw, when you consider the amount that's in there). This is the cheapest neck-through Ibanez guitar they've ever released to my knowledge, and at this price it's a great value. The body and neck on mine are well-built and pretty much flawless in every way except for the black finish, which rubs off and shows scratches fairly easily. Just being placed carefully on a stand this guitar, which I've played daily for several months, has worn the finish off of a body edge in two places where it touches the soft stand cushions. Another fairly minor nit is the way the electronics are implemented. While the switches are fine and work well, there's a small printed circuit board mounted vertically in a way that makes it hard to remove and also extremely difficult to solder directly against. While the switches are fine and work well, there's a small printed circuit board mounted vertically in a way that makes it hard to remove and also extremely difficult to solder directly against. When I did a pickup upgrade, I wound up splicing wires to get around this, but it was a hassle and not optimal in terms of clutter, though I can't detect any issue with the sound quality afterwards. I don't know how I feel about the reverse headstock. It does seem to make bending on the higher strings slightly more difficult, but not enough to worry about. Sound-wise it's a killer, no question. The sustain is as you'd expect from a neck-through Ibanez. The stock Quantum pickups are fine, but on the advice of Patrick Cobley, my sales engineer, I upgraded to a set of Pandemonium humbuckers, and the guitar really crunches now, with good cleans that are full of warmth. Overall it's a great guitar and worth the money--I just wish the finish were more robust.
This is the first time I've ever owned or played a fretless bass. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. First of all, the price is very good for all of the features on this bass. With the 3 band equalizer, the ability to split (or tap) the coils on the pups, and the blend knob, tone possibilities are abundant. This bass looks like its more expensive siblings and is very easy to play. I love the feel of the neck, velvety and smooth. I had no trouble setting it up and getting it intonated properly. I changed the stings to E B cobalt flatwound before ever playing it with the stock strings. Tuners are adequate, but I may upgrade those later. I thought it might take a bit to get used to the feel of a fretless bass, but it felt very natural to play, just like my other ... MoreThis is the first time I've ever owned or played a fretless bass. I thought I might get a less expensive model, but I like having the fret markers, and with the upgrades I would have done to the other one I looked at, this bass seemed to me to be a better value with less effort. I love modding my guitars, but I would rather play them, and this instrument was very playable right out of the box. I waited for a while to get it because it was unavailable, so happy I went ahead with the purchase, because it looks like its a backorder item again. Time will tell if this is a durable instrument, but I feel pretty confident already that it will hold up under normal playing conditions. I believe it's a great value for the price, and worthy of upgrading later. An excellent way to get into the fretless world.
