This is a beautiful merino with a soft feel and flat seams. Bought this for hiking and it's a perfect layering piece over a merino t-shirt and with the flat seams, there is virtually no chance of rubbing from a pack. It's a good length without being too long. I love everything about this and would highly recommend it. Bought the Brazilwood colour and it's a great colour.

After having a set of icebreakers myself, I finally convinced my wife to get a set. The ability to regulate between hot and cold makes such a difference for high output activities in the cold. Between winter camping, skiing, or even taking our dog for walk or run. They can feel like an investment but once try them, you will never go back to the polyesters. One warning is that Marino can feel a bit itchy at times but you get used to it. Everyone’ sensitivity is different. Also, wash in cold water and hand to dry. NEVER put them in the drier. Never.

After reviewing different types of base layers- wool synthetic, blend- I decided I wanted wool because of it's wicking, warmth, and antimicrobial properties. I tried on a bunch of shirts at different weights to find which would be most comfortable- snug but not too tight, warm but not too hot, and something that wouldn't be itchy as I have a bit of a wool allergy. Smartwool socks have never bothered me, but rough wool sweaters are a no. I settled on this shirt for a few reasons: it fit right, it was soft and didn't make me feel itchy, and it was that much cheaper than Smartwool or other brands. I've used it for a couple months now and even when I get sweaty while hiking I don't get itchy. And it's the right amount of added warmth for winters in south central WI. ... Was looking for a warm baselayer for snowboarding and got this in a size small. Unfortunately it is a bit loose on me (good because more comfortable but bad because more cold air will seep through). I was looking at exchanging it for a size smaller and unfortunately altitude sports does no accept exchanges. They also do not have a physical store. So I either lose out on shipping or keep my original. Great clothing piece, but not great experience with altitude sports business.
I've had an Icebreaker 200 top for maybe 6 years and love it for its lightness and warmth. And durability. When I found the same thing (finally!) at REI on sale, I grabbed two, the sage green and the mushroom color called mink. The new ones seem cut a little tighter, though not by much: they may loosen a bit with wearing and they still fit fine. Since I got them I've had one or the other on almost every day. They're a great first layer, lovely against the skin and warm for such a light weight top.
I jhace a variety of base layers with different degrees of warmth from various brands. I find ice breakers tops to be pretty good and comfortable. They aren’t itchy. I do feel I’m in between sizes and their various lines fit a bit differently. I really like the colours and wash ability of this line it’s improved compared to other ice breaker base layer products I have.
I had never bought an Icebreaker, but my husband owns several and loves them. I got the gray one on sale at another retailer and was so thrilled by how it fit! It is very flattering, so comfortable, and warm. I live in FL during the winter and this top is perfect for those cold days and, because it breathes, I find I will keep it on even when the temp warms. I spend my summers & fall in CO, and it's perfect for cool mornings & at night. I wash it in cold water & hang to dry, and it's like new every time. Very form fitting & no bagging. Love this top!
I wore this baselayer in the Arctic in -40 weather, both at night and during our long ski days. This baselayer was very warm and comfortable. I was excited to wear it back home during long ski days, which turned out to work even better. It is quite warm, so it's easy to get sweaty wearing this. I chose the beautiful dark pink colour, but be aware of sweat stains (hence the 4 stars)! Love this piece.
This base layer shirt fit me perfectly and was very easy to move around in! It had a good amount of stretch while still retaining its shape. It did get damp when I was skiing and hiking but still kept me warm. It took a very short time to dry, which I appreciated when using this product in sub-zero temperatures. The only issue I had with this shirt was that I found it a little itchy on my skin, which is something I am very particular about. However, most of the itchiness went away after the first wash. I will continue to use this base-layer for a variety of activities!
One of my favorite base layer tops, I’m 5’9” fluctuate between 148-155lbs lbs w/light muscle tone and got a medium. The sleeves are long enough for tall women. Great length through the torso too. Neckline is really comfortable. Fabric is a soft and not itchy wool, it is wool though… so don’t expect it to be silky smooth. I wear this under a jacket snowboarding for 20-35° ish nights, I add a light fleece if it’s colder than that. And wear just a shell over this if it’s a warmer day. Keeps me dry and pulls the sweat away from my body all day without getting the top stinky. I also like to just wear it around the house on chilly nights.

Icebreaker 200 Oasis LS Crewe Women XL / Black
The Icebreaker 200 Oasis women's baselayer long-sleeved shirt will help to keep you warm under your winter sports equipment. This light and soft merino wool base layer is breathable and provides a superior comfort. This thermal layer is part of a layering system that provides comfort and warmth for your outdoor activities. Easy to layer, this base layer enables you to regulate your body temperature by wicking moisture away. This onion layering system is made of three types of clothing. The first layer, worn next-to-skin will provide warmth and quickly move moisture away from your skin. Then, the second layer, is the insulation or fleece, that provides warmth while also dissipating heat during periods of high output. And finally, the third layer, the shell, which is the most weather-protective layer, worn on the outside of all other layers.
