Excellent base layer

This shirt works excellent as a base layer. The 200 weight is more practical for most of the year. I carry the 260 weight in my kit as my backup/emergency clothes for when it's colder out, but most of the time I just use the 200 weight.Wool is absolute gold for life outdoors. Keeps you warm when wet, and I sweat a lot so this is really important. Icebreaker makes a good wool blend and I've used icebreaker stuff for over a decade now. I work outside and this is my go to base layer shirt for all things work and adventure. Even in the summer I will have this shirt in my kit. Must buy item!

Merino wool is an amazing base layer, this crew top is made from natural fibers that are great at maintaining warmth and pulling moisture away from the body. This 200 crew top is my go to base layer for when I am going to be in colder weather. It also works great as a night shirt when I want some additional warmth when the temps drop and I am camping. This shirt is very comfortable and is form fitting. I have a couple of them and I would highly recommend them.

Immaculate
2 November 2022

While I own a couple of Icebreaker boxers, this is my first base layer top. Absolutely brilliant. Yes, merino is merino, but icebreaker's quality is immaculate. I've been using it as a base layer for shoulder season/winter cycling with only a vest on top, and it's been fantastic. The knit work is great, it's handling the workout with dignity, and the insulation and breathability is stunning. Granted, I'll need a long sleeve mid layer for the winter, but it'll still be miles away from the other options. Having said that, I wish the brand partnered with graphic designers, because in my opinion, their graphic design offering is pretty basic; if they mixed their quality products with top notch graphic design, they could be the Rapha of merino.

Just Exactly Perfect
10 January 2023

I have the maroon version of this 250 merino wool shirt. It's just a little roomy up top and more form fitting along the sides. If you're in good shape, this shirt will make you look super buff. Standard Icebreaker quality, which is to say awesome. Comfort level? Wow. If I could afford a wardrobe full of Icebreaker, I would have one. Way more comfortable than the 250 shirt of top competitor.I got a size larger than necessary since I warm wash and medium dry with the rest of my clothes, so there's just a touch of shrinkage, but probably about the same as cotton. Don't forget to avoid fabric softener.

Love this top - woman's POV
23 January 2023

These 200 Oasis long sleeve tops are just amazing. I would wear one all the time if I could. I've had no trouble with laundering them either, and the top gets softer with each wash. (I do not put them in the dryer, but they dry really fast when hung up.) I have black, and right now I'm sleeping in it for cold weather. But the weave is so nice and fine that it (or the short sleeved one which I also have) could be worn under a blazer or as a regular top regardless of being active wear. I expect these tops to last for many years. BTW - I am a 6' tall, middle-aged amazon female, and the XXXL fits all my curves just right. (To be fair, I can also wear the XXL a little more tight - I'm kind of right between those two sizes in the men's.) I'm no go on their women's sizes. ... MoreThese 200 Oasis long sleeve tops are just amazing. I would wear one all the time if I could. The Men's Oasis 200 shoulders and chest fit me perfectly, but the arms are too long which is not a problem for me. My husband who is also very tall can also fit the Oasis 200 just fine. I'm not sharing - I bought him his own.

Quality fabric but you decide about the fit.
14 March 2024

Found this on sale and ordered my regular size and it fits like a body forming layer. I ordered a size up and it seemed a better fit for my needs. Quality fabric but the collar feels stretchy some what. The length of the shirt is longer than some if that's what you like, but I'm not trying to warm my butt. Some people may have a longer trunk type body or tuck their shirt. Sleeves plenty long. Its lightweight. I'm keeping the 200 top and will see its long term use but the 260 weight I sent back because I felt the lighter base layer worked for me as I could layer to get better results with more versatility for my climate. The fabric is plush and you may wear this as a everyday top used as casual wear on cold days. The fabric is that nice.

The perfect layer
10 January 2024

This is the third one of these I have owned. I wear them so much throughout the year, I’ve worn the first two through. I wish the shirts had the same lifetime warranty as the socks!I wear this shirt in the winter and summer. I wear them running, hiking, paddling, skiing, camping, around the house, sleeping… pretty much everywhere. The shirt is perfect as a backpacking or travelling layer as after a week of constant wear, it still doesn’t smell.I typically wear this as a base layer as it is tight and leaves little to the imagination. But that’s the point. The natural colour is fairly see-through as well. Especially if you are a hairy man. But looks great as a long-sleeve under a t-shirt and not a big deal as is meant to be a base layer. All in all very pleased once ... MoreThis is the third one of these I have owned. Trusty cold weather base layer
15 March 2024

I mostly use this for properly cold weather. When it's merely cool, I usually wear a merino t-shirt or the lighter 150 Anatomica long sleeve as base layer.I use it for almost anything during winter, from low to high output activities. Although nowadays for highest output stuff I might choose a synthetic base layer that wicks moisture more efficiently. Some examples from a holiday in Kuusamo, northern Finland with temperatures varying between -10° and -20° C in January. I wore this shirt nearly all the time for five days: for hiking, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, playing in the snow with kids, and lounging in the cabin in the evenings. In fact, I recently washed it the very first time, after a bit more than 2 years of ownership (!), and even now the shirt wasn't particularly in need of washing. This seems durable too, unlike some other 100% merino products I have; it's still pretty much like new.I'm 175 cm / 72 kg and size S fits me perfectly. Long enough sleeves and hem. The "Mink" colour is nice.

comfortable and warm, really happy with this top.
15 November 2022

this is the first time i've bought a merino baselayer. i've been wearing it for a few weeks now and i have to say that that i'm really impressed. the fit is good, allowing good movement, and the fabric is amazing, it's comfortable on the skin and when coupled with a decent mid-layer it keeps you nice and warm. what's brilliant is that as well as warming you up it also allows you to cool down. i've been wearing this in the autumn in the UK. it's november and i still haven't put the heating on thanks to my new baselayers (i got long johns too). as a baselayer noob i hadn't known about the icebreaker brand before but they clearly know how to produce high quality clothing made of merino. it's money well spent.
