Icebreaker Mens 200 Oasis Long Sleeve Half Zip XL / Black

(1,018 reviews)

The Icebreaker 200 Oasis HZ men's half-zip baselayer long-sleeved shirt will help to keep you warm under your winter sports equipment. This light and soft merino wool base layer is breathable and provides a superior comfort. This thermal layer is part of a layering system that provides comfort and warmth for your outdoor activities. Easy to layer, this base layer enables you to regulate your body temperature by wicking moisture away. This onion layering system is made of three types of clothing. The first layer, worn next-to-skin will provide warmth and quickly move moisture away from your skin. Then, the second layer, is the insulation or fleece, that provides warmth while also dissipating heat during periods of high output. And finally, the third layer, the shell, which is the most weather-protective layer, worn on the outside of all other layers.

A Risk That Paid Off for a Premium Purchase

Initially, I was a bit hesitant to make this purchase, considering the complications that could arise due to my location outside the US and potential return issues. However, taking a leap of faith proved to be one of my best decisions. The quality of the product is exceptional; the merino material feels luxurious, and the fit is perfect. I'm delighted with my choice, and despite my initial reservations, it has turned out to be a highly satisfying purchase.

I purchased the thermal top at least 2 years ago. The fabric is excellent. It is warm and comfortable, never itchy. Washing is simple and keeps the fabric in top shape. I turn the top inside out, put it in a wash bag, select a gentle, cold cycle, and let air dry. It is true to size, with generous length at the hem and sleeves. I plan getting another top in a different color and the matching bottom. When the weather turns to cold, I'm always happy to reach out to this garment.

I just love these tops

Again this is about my third top in this style but different weights/colours over 10 years. And I love them! They last so well, I love the neck line good for temperature changes.... In fact my one regret in life (almost!!!) is I didn't buy a lush purple one a few years back. Unreservedly recommend. The first one I bought lasted 10 years and I eventually gave it to refugee collecting winter clothes as it was still good but I'd moved up from a small to medium in that time.

Light, soft, stylish, essential.
8 January 2024

I spend two months every year on a motorcycle, traveling through foreign lands. I can only bring 5 shirts. Each piece is critically essential. It has to be appropriate for the Alps, the Louvre, the wind chill from the bike and a romantic dinner for two. This Icebreaker Merino 175 makes the cut. It is a winner on all fronts: cozy too! I ❤️ this masterpiece design.

Love this thermal!
1 September 2024

I’ve read so many reviews on different thermals and decided to go with this one. I’m an active person and live in Southern California where it doesn’t get too cold, but cold enough where this will be perfect. I love how it’s thin, but not see through. The material is soft and feels good. Not itchy. I can wear alone or layer if I choose. I love the half zip for ventilation when needed. So excited to add this to my closet for fall and winter. I went with a small after referring to the size chart. I am a 34B, 5’6, 133 lbs, waist is 29 and below belly button I’m a 34 comfortably. So the small fit me perfectly. If you want more of a loose fit then size up. I wanted it to be fitted for layering.

My second of these tops
22 August 2024

I bought a second colour because this is such a versatile top and a great layering piece. I can unzip the neck to cool down quickly when skiing or hiking. But zipped up, I can throw a dressy scarf over it to hide the zipper and wear it out to dinner. And like all Icebreaker 100% wool, it's a great travel piece because it seldom needs washing, and wrinkles fall out when you hang it. The fit is snug, suitable for a base layer. I sometimes get medium in Icebreaker, but glad I went large on this one.

NO!
10 January 2024

As a base layer. I have worn this base layer twice on two separate occasions for one day only. washed by hand. dried flat. After taking it off today I discover it has several holes at the front. I will NOT be buying any more Icebreaker products. I have worn this item with joggers, I don't drive so no seat belt friction. Extremely disappointed.

Not the fit I wanted
13 January 2021

I have an old icebreaker bodyfit 150 (a style no longer with us?). It is thin, but also sleek and extremely durable. The Everyday was not that. The fabric is a little thicker, and really stretchy and soft, so much so that it doesn't really support the zipper's weight, so the chest looked a little weird on me. Also, I think the collar and zipper are both a little longer in the Everyday (or maybe the collar seems longer because the material is thicker). The packaging had a helpful comparison of everyday, bodyfit, and bodyfitzone, noting that everyday is not as tight a fit, which I found to be true. I got size S (5'2", 120 lbs, bust 34"), because that's the size of my old icebreaker bodyfit. I would recommend sizing down here compared to the bodyfitzone, so the zipper ... MoreI have an old icebreaker bodyfit 150 (a style no longer with us?). I would recommend sizing down here compared to the bodyfitzone, so the zipper and collar might fit better, especially if you're short-torsoed like me. I returned the Everyday and purchased the bodyfit zone in S, and it was way closer to what I was looking for, and the zipper/collar fit great. Only thing with bodyfit zone was loose sleeves, though these are purely personal preference. If I were to purchase Everyday again, I would go for the boatneck or the crewneck styles, understanding that this is not a tough garment.

Poor 'improvements' 2017 to 2018
21 September 2019

The Oasis Body Fit 200 half zip was a go to for me. First purchased in 2007 for skiing. Great fit, snug and fitted, as one would expect for a 'bodyfit' base layer. Having worn that out I looked to purchase another.I sadly made a mistake due to the confusing descriptions Icebreaker were using at the time and ended up with something called Oasis 200 but it wasn't Body Fit. Grey with a yellow/orange zip should anyone remember them.I kept the faith and looked again a few seasons later and the names/category of items had been cleaned up and allowed me to purchase with more confidence.I ordered an Oasis 200 Body Fit half zip and was delighted to receive a perfect fitting (for me anyway) item in medium. A wonderful deep navy blue, sufficiently slim fitting for a base layer and even perfect with something like a Hanes 100 cotton BeefyT under it.The collar stood up well on its own without having to zip it up, fitted like it was tailored to me, not too long in body or sleeves. I was delighted and immediately ordered another couple as a back up; even though I didn't like the sticker on the arm - my original having been stitched branding. However as it was the end of 2017 the season there was just one available.Fast forward to 2018 and I looked to purchase another. Sadly Icebreaker had decided to 'improve' the item. Not in my eyes. When it arrived and I tried it on the fit was baggy. Even though Icebreaker claim the dimensions hadn't changed from 2017.The collar flops down (as it's higher) unless the zip is halfway up, its too long in the body and arms and the removal of the seam across the back of the shoulders, while I can see the rationale for no rubbing, has ruined the structure. The only improvement over the 2017 is that the arm branding is back to being stitched again and not a sticker. Why change something when it's not broken? If the only 'improvement' was the branding being stitched and removal of the stickers, that new 2018 garment would have been perfection. Sadly the 'new improved' just don't fit as well. They look poor on, baggy, ill fitting for 'bodyfit' and too long.I can't see myself trusting Icebreaker's fit again and I shall just have to carefully look after the two I have.If you've any old stock from 'pre-improvements' in medium send them my way! : )

Versatile layer
24 March 2024

I like the versatility of the half zip and the weight of this thermal top. I wear it on runs, hikes, and even bikes around town. It looks nice enough for daily wear and it is functional enough for active pursuits -- so it's great if I have something social post activity. The colour is so pretty too! After initial wash, it felt snug but then loosened up. Very happy with this purcahse!
