Vakka storage box by Iittala is made of compressed plywood, a traditional material with natural character. The designers, Klaus and Elina Aalto, were inspired by the plywood suitcases particularly popular in the Baltic countries. They wanted to create an aesthetically pleasing container that does not look too much like a container and lends itself for a variety of uses. Vakka is stackable, and it can function for instance as a night table, side table or toy box. Vakka boxes are made in Lahti, Finland. In 2014, they received the iF Golden Design award.
