IK Multimedia iLoud MTM | High-Resolution Compact Studio Monitor

Not everyone has the luck of owning or working in a purpose-built studio control room, many of us are carving what musical living we can from home studios and corner bedroom setups. If this is you then I can't praise these speakers enough. The size, build quality and built-in DSP is what makes this speaker head and shoulders above others in this price range. Don't get hung up on brand names, in this pricer range the build-in ARC room equalisation makes these the winner hands down. They have a perfect listening point and reproduce such a huge range of frequencies in your mix you can hear every artefact. I was looking at 3 brands before going with these and I'm so glad I did. these are to my mind the ultimate small studio setup speakers.

I purchased a pair of the MTMs for my daughter's home studio. I had searched the web for a small pair of studio monitors that were accurate and had more of a bass extension than most small home studio monitors. Most youtube reviews were raving about the MTMs so i decided to get them. I was surprised to see the mounts to set them up horizontally and vertically and the calibration mics that came with them. In use they are extremely even (before calibration but most certainly after calibration), the low end extension is accurate down to 40 Hz. One complaint: their are not crazily loud. For prepoduction sessions you can't crank them as loud as bigger speakers. Max SPL (peak) is rated at 102dB which is not loud when you want to get a good vibe while working on a ... MoreI purchased a pair of the MTMs for my daughter's home studio. For prepoduction sessions you can't crank them as loud as bigger speakers. Max SPL (peak) is rated at 102dB which is not loud when you want to get a good vibe while working on a production. However their strength is in their accuracy: when mixing at 80 - 85 dB you get the full sonic picture; Depth, Clarity, midrange accuracy, all the components are there for great mixing. I own a pair of Adam A7x and Barefoot Footprint01 and i can tell you that those little MTMs are the best in their league and the results they give stand up to mixes done on much more expensive sets of monitors. For the price/quality/value they are AMAZING!!!

Blown away by how good these are!🤘

I have heard many monitors of all sizes and mixed with them. Well these small studio monitors have the sound of some iv'e heard priced at $8,500. So if you think the price is steep well it is right on par trust me on that. Now they are not perfect because they do have slight limitations when pushing them at loud volumes. When they are driven to clip usually the air port on the back will start to make noise. This can usually be remedied by adjusting the low end on the back to 50 or 60HZ cut off and you will lose the low end or you can cut the low end by a few db using another button on the back so it is just a matter of adjusting to taste. There is not really anything bad I can say about these other than the power switch could have been made better ( classic steel ... MoreI have heard many monitors of all sizes and mixed with them. There is not really anything bad I can say about these other than the power switch could have been made better ( classic steel toggle would have been nice). You have to look at these as not trying to fill the room with blasting music. These are designed for mixing and that is where they shine. Simply place your speakers on stands or you workstation desk (near field) then put the included mic on a stand and place it where you will be sitting and plug it in to the first speaker then second repeating the process for as many as you have. Use the calibration feature on the back and it flattens the sound by using some EQ voodoo via DSP. Usually DSP is not what you want in monitors but in this case there is no latency Mixed with proper alignment of drivers and almost perfect timing sonically. You really can hear every detail even at the lowest volume. If you need more volume these can get fairly loud at 100w a speaker and still hold there clarity so well. In my honest opinion these are some of the nicest sounding monitors that rival any other in their price range and for sound quality many that are priced 10 times the cost of the iLoud MTM's.

Excellent audio quality in such a small speaker

The audio from this loudspeaker is very clear and without strong overtones. I have them connected to the computer through a DAC, you need some device of this type, or a good amplifier, to get the most out of these speakers. The bass is punchy but does not overpower the mid-tones. The high tones are perhaps not as crystal clear as I would have liked, but they are still good. There are enough buttons on the back to vary the sound to suit our tastes. The construction of the speaker itself is very good, it looks like a durable item. The movable base of the speaker has rubber feet, so it is isolated from the place where it rests and does not transmit vibrations.

Excellent speakers, but unrepairable after the warranty ends

I bought two of these in summer 2020 to leave semi-permanently attached to the stand that holds my synth keyboard. Excellent sound, even before using the supplied microphones to calibrate them. However, I recently realized that one of them was distorting a lot on low notes. I had had it more than a year, so I contacted IK Multimedia online to find out how to get it fixed.Their answer: Sorry, we can't help you. No out-of-warranty repairs, and no independent service shops that handle them. So my choices are to throw it away and buy another one, or throw them both away and buy speakers from another manufacture that can be fixed if they break.

Fantastic desktop monitors

Sound:Fantastic sound quality! Wanted something compact for desktop listening with great sound quality and decent volume. These are a little pricier than something I'd normally consider, but considering the features that go into this unit, i decided there really is a lot of value for your money. Active 2 way, 100W RMS (I question if that much amplifier was necessary for these) and stupid dumb easy calibration with included measurement microphone!?JUST WOW!Do they sound perfect? No... but honestly when calibrated, they're pretty close. Overall they play extremely flat and balanced.Ease of Use:Very easy to get great sound! Just use included calibration microphone.Sound settings on the back are inconvenient to use.Would be nice if settings could be adjusted by PC ... MoreSound:Fantastic sound quality! Fantastic little monitors that punch well above their weight

I’ve had to downsize my studio space, because we moved to a smaller apartment and my old monitors were just too big for my workspace.I wanted something compact but still accurate and I have to say these tick both those boxes. The DSP controlled response is flat, and the added benefit of built in ARC room correction gives a very transparent sound that allows me to really hear details in the mix.The MTM configuration provides a pin sharp stereo image.I’ve heard monitors costing far more money that these little monitors happily go toe to toe with.I recommend you try them.

Iloud MTM

I purchased the speakers to listen to program material. They are my stereo speakers . Since I do not mix on them in a studio, I cannot comment on how well they mix. They are extremely detailed so I assume they would be wonderful for mixing. For listening to music and using for stereo speakers they sound a bit bright. Some women's voices sound somewhat harsh, and some guitar parts sound a little edgy but maybe that's a good thing for mixing to be able to hear such detail . Nothing can hide in the mix when you play back your tracks through these speakers. For listening enjoyment a subwoofer is a must . That extra low end makes all the difference. I wish they had put a sub output on the speakers. I'm having to run the Audio signal into a stereo Chanel on my mixer and ... MoreI purchased the speakers to listen to program material. I wish they had put a sub output on the speakers. I'm having to run the Audio signal into a stereo Chanel on my mixer and use a aux send to drive the sub and balance the sub volume with the aux return on the Chanel . It would be so easy if a sub out jack was provided on the speakers. Anyway it is what it is it and it does sound wonderful. The detail and soundstage are tremendous . As honest as they are I find myself listening to well recorded recent material and not listening to older recordings on old equipment. If it's a good recording it sounds great- old recordings sound like crap . All in all , I love the speakers. I think he will too.

Perfect small studio monitors

Got these for a smaller studio I'm working out of for a getaway album project. I do production, post work, and mixing. I was comparing to other small monitors including genelecs, but already had the micro monitors and loved how those sounded. These MTMs, I'm happy to say, are incredible. The bass really goes down to 40hz in these tiny cabinets, it's insane. The imaging is really superb as well. I tried the Arc correction feature, but I got way better results with My sonarworks system.I love that you can put them on stands, I have mine on table top microphone stands, and they're perfectly ear level.Overall, these are way better than I expected, and the fact that they are semi portable is the cherry on top. Highly recommend!

Review of IK Multimedia iLoud MTM Reference Studio Monitor (each)

They perform exactly how they say they will on the tin!Amazing extended low end considering their size and the inbuilt room correction works a treat. They can display their inherent distortion levels if not set up correctly or driven too loud, but this is minor in action. The MTM’s have replaced the near field monitors in my setup that have higher specs, are more costly and would be considered generally, a more-pro option. Yet, it’s easier to mix and get better universal results with the MTM’s, as their sound reflects a greater realistic listening environment, whereby the bass is tight and the general sound seems more contained, which helps with the decisions within the balancing process.I’m extremely pleased with them and am finding myself mixing faster, knowing ... MoreThey perform exactly how they say they will on the tin!Amazing extended low end considering their size and the inbuilt room correction works a treat. They can display their inherent distortion levels if not set up correctly or driven too loud, but this is minor in action. The MTM’s have replaced the near field monitors in my setup that have higher specs, are more costly and would be considered generally, a more-pro option.
