I don't process enough B&W to mix huge quantities of other developers. This comes in a 500ml bottle that I can mix as needed. It's good for about 90 days once opened; that I can do.

I've only been developing my own film for a couple of months now. This is the only developer that I've used, so far. I've heard a lot of people say that it's not good for faster film or pushing film. I don't believe that at all. I've had nothing but solid results. I push my HP5 to 1600 on a regular basis, and the results are great. So far, I've used this with Acros 100 (with AMAZING results), HP5, Kentmere 400, Tri-X, and Delta 3200. Great results every time. I use 400ml of solution for my 120mm and 250ml of solution for my 35mm. This means I can get 12 rolls of 120 film and 20 rolls of 35mm out of every bottle. For this price, that's hard to beat.I've included some photos for reference

Results exactly as expected with 35mm Tri-X and HP5, if you have the correct temperature, time, and agitation (one time, I did not; usable negs but a bit faint). For a diffusion enlarger, you might want to add 10 percent to times, or plan on #3 paper. The bottle cap is lined with a piece of cardboard plasticized on one side and it wants to flop out. If you have sensitive skin and a leaky film tank, consider rubber gloves.

I bought this developer because Ilford’s DD-X couldn’t be shipped. After reading some reviews about it blowing out highs and mids I was pleasantly surprised to find all my developed negatives were very well balanced and comparable to DD-X. The higher dilution and smaller bottle size are nice because I’m limited on storage space, and the developing times are actually a little shorter than DD-X. I’ve used the developer with some 120 FP4 and liked the results, but have yet to try it with HP5 .
Nice developer. My only complaint is that like all developers it has a short shelf life especially after being opened. Since I do not use a lot of film most if it usually goes bad before I can use it up. I wish there were smaller bottles but then most of the cost would be in packaging.
When in doubt about what developer to use, Ilfosol-3 is as reliable as Mother's cooking. I inherited an old photographer's leftover film recently: films like Agfa and Elfe. Ilfosol-3 develops 'em all. and well. It'll handle everything I've run across on the Massive Dev Chart as well. There are other, cheaper developers out there, many quite good, but Ilfolsol-3's pretty-much a can't-go-wrong choice.
One shot ease of use. Pretty quick development times using the 1:9 dilution, so your development technique needs to be pretty tight! Or use the 1:14 dilution to get longer development times. I like the results with many different films ... Tri-X, HP5+, FP4+, Fuji Acros, in both 35mm and 120. Only drawback is that once opened you only have about 6 months before it goes bad (dark dark).
This developer sometimes gets bad reputation for being grainy. This is not true. This is not a solvent developer so it doesn't try to wash out grain, it's optimized for maximum sharpness. In that regard it's somewhat similar to Rodinal, but it doesn't lose the shadows like Rodinal does. The reason (I think) some people find this developer to be grainy is because poor quality scanning (with sharpening applied which is often the default) leads to unnatural looking grain. If you're scanning, make sure to scan in high-resolution, at least 4000dpi, and turn that sharpening off!In other words, this is a lovely developer only for those who have access to high-end scanning. Otherwise I would recommend a more solvent developer like D76, ID-11, or Xtol
Right off the bat, this developer is excellent on several levels. It's liquid, easy to measure/mix, it can be SHIPPED, and I use it developing my mostly Kodak TriX and TMax films. Previously Kodak D-76 was my developer of choice. However, few if any retailers ship this developer. Looking for a comparable developer to D-76 the Ilfosol-3 stood out as a good alternate. As of this posting, I've developed 6-rolls of TriX 35mm and 4-rolls of TMax 120 so far and am very pleased with the results.A side note; B&H does excellent packaging when shipping this liquid product and all the other liquid chemicals I have ordered from them.
I am very happy to be able to get all these high quality chemicals and hardware for the darkroom at more or less reasonable prices and delivery times. The only thing I don't like but it does not depend on H&B are the import fees. That is a failure of the Canada, US, Mexico free trade agreements. But this is attachable to the mexican corrupt governments, among other things.
