This machine makes espresso just as good (or better) than any cafe. I do use a separate steamer but the cappuccino I end up with is fantastic. The machine is SO easy to use and SO easy to clean - in fact it rarely needs cleaning if you're not using the steaming wand. I've had this since 2010 with zero issues. I think it costs me about $1.75 to make a cappuccino at home with this vs $4.50 to $5.50 at a coffee shop (plus tip). That's a significant savings for a superior product. The only thing that has always bothered me is the pods. But in general I'm good about recycling. This is my one sin...

I've been an Illy machine and coffee customer for 15+ years. This machine has extraordinary improvements of past machines. The heat-up time is incredibly quick with steam from coffee also quick. The steam wand is extremely effective - I used to use a separate hand-held frothing wand. This machine listens to my custom pull times and consistently adheres to those after only one prompt. Really impressed and very happy with this machine.

So disappointed with this machine. I luckily won this espresso machine in your Instagram account here in the US was so excited bc I was finally going to be able to practice latte art with a quality machine but it came to my surprise that it only worked TWICE! bought myself the iperEspresso capsules all to waste I could only make espresso 2 times and after that the machine would not brew coffee but only water and spilled everywhere reached out to customer service and customer care no one could help me customer service practically said to throw the machine away :/. WHAT A WASTE! SO Disappointing.

Purchased this for temporary use while my regular espresso machine was being serviced. As I don't particularly care for the flavor of Illy coffee I also purchased from a separate supplier a pod replacement that I could fill with my coffee beans. The pod would only hold approximately 3 - 4 grams of espresso grind. The machine worked flawlessly but the flavor was no better than Moka. After a couple of uses I gave it to my daughter to use or donate it. The machine was a close out on sale for cheap so I don't have many complaints only that per cup of espresso it cost me about $75 before I boxed it back up.
We got ours when they were offered with a coffee subscription. Thing to know about this machine is that you can manually dispense the shot (press/hold) the cup button which also sets the new automatic dispense time. Good crema. I love that we can return the pods for recycling in the pre-labeled UPS bags. A fantastic buy this machine!
I have really enjoyed the espresso that this machine puts out. It is delicious and convenient. The machine only takes a minute or two to heat up so it's perfect for use before work in the morning. Having the steamed milk arm is really nice as well. I love the portafilter pod container! It's just for looks but there's something about it that I really enjoy. The only thing that takes a little getting used to is the limited user interface. There's only 3 buttons and moving around between the different modes is not difficult but it does take using it once or twice to get the hang of it. Overall I would absolutely recommend this machine for daily espresso.
Illy coffee is delicious. The coffee maker and the packaging the coffee comes in however promotes a lot of waste but I am grateful that Illy has a recycling program for the capsules. I am interested to see just how well it works. My biggest gripe is that the portion of coffee you get per capsule is tiny. I would like to be able to easily make a double shot without having to use two capsules and waiting between the two just to get a little bit bigger cup of coffee. Perhaps Illy could provide a second handle option that allows for a larger/standard size capsule that makes a double shot. The manual also did not explain that you have to set your values in order to determine the amount of coffee you get when you make your coffee selection. I bought this machine to replace an Illy Iperespresso machine that no longer worked and that for a long time provided me with GREAT coffee. The new machine has more features than the one that failed an X1 FrancisFrancis but it seems not to deliver the coffee with the same intense flavor let us say the coffee seems to tastes more watery especially if I get a piu' lungo in the cup... which is what I like in the morning with breakfast. I am hoping it will improve with age...
I had the previous machine Iperspresso and it was very good! But I'm in love with this new one!!! It's easy to use and brews very fast. The quality is as good as the other because of the capsule. The steamer is great! Milk is hot and foaming as a professional barista. I definitely recommend it!!!

Now I am familiar with it and figured I'd give a 2nd review after nearly 2 years with it.Yes it can make drip coffee but as others have stated for some reason it definitely does not come out as hot as the Espresso shots. If you are thinking of this machine think of it as an Espresso machine first and foremost and if you have a guest that likes/insists on Coffee the taste is great but your cup may need a warm-up in the microwave if they want it hot. As far as Espresso it's great. The iperEspresso pods are convenient and I live close to a Sur La Table so I can get new canisters pretty easily. If you are used to frequenting boogie/hipster coffee shops like I enjoy 3-4 times per week they on average pack 9 grams in each shot (nearly 20 grams total in a Latte or traditional Macchiato as they usually have 2 shots in them) so you are definitely getting more buzzed from their offerings as opposed to having to pull nearly 3 shots from my Illy machine to get the same effect. Haven't used the steam wand much but the couple times I've used it it's worked effectively. Of course the build quality is great and it looks nice on the countertop. So far so good. Would like to try the new ESE version sometime in the near future.
