We keep buying them even though they are predictably short lived. I really like the convenience. Though some components are very well designed, they have all leaked 3-5 years after installation. They look nice and are certainly delivering instant hot water. There is too much waste however to throw away a perfectly good hot water tank due to these tiny leaks in plastic parts. No replacement parts seem to be available and you can no longer drain the tank sediments as you could before in the previous models with the drain screw.$100-350 premium for differing faucets is excessive, IMHO anyway. Just adding cold water to the faucet is roughly doubling the cost of the entire unit. ($200)Also, the part that will most likely fail is the tank assembly and so the fancy faucet is a wasted expense. You can often swap dispensers and tanks around, but that is somewhat dependent on the specific unit and fittings.Be sure and investigate compatibility with Reverse Osmosis treated water for units like this. That hold for both for the tanks and the faucets/dispensers.-1 Star for not supporting RO water, and for Cold water dispenser option doubling the price. $400-$500 for a single sink hot water tank is excessive.-2 Stars for a very short life and no replacement parts causing excessive landfill waste and wasteful expenditures.Pros:1) Instant Hot water really is Instant and Hot!2) Adjustable Temperature Limit3) Relatively low cost of operation (electricity)4) Straight forward installation that is fairly easy5) Attractive styling options, including the base models.6) Sufficient capacity for drinks, quick splash of hot water for recipes, or small saucepans7) Mounting holes stayed the same over the years so the frequent replacements are easier.8) Reheats quickly after depletionCons:1) Short life (3-5 years per unit for me, 4th unit in ~15 years)2) Ridiculously expensive for anything but the base models. Almost like the faucet fittings are made from solid gold.3) Unreliable design as they fail the same way. Leaks from the expansion chamber plastic. Great that the tank is stainless, but the plastic expansion tank leaks and still requires a replacement of the entire unit for what should be a $10-$20 replacement plastic part.4) No longer provides the drain valve to drain accumulated sediment from the tank.5) Smallish size would be better often with an extra 16-32 oz of capacity.6) Warranty is shorter than the expected failure timeline.7) Faucets can reportedly have issues with RO treated water leaching metals.8) Instructions showed more parts than receivedOverall if you want to spend roughly $10-$15 per month forever for the instant hot water units, plus $100-$150 every 3-5 years to have them replaced (if you hire it done), then you will likely enjoy this product. The convenience is truly great and the style and function is as well.Just be aware of the very significant ongoing costs to keep them working with it's apparent planned obsolescence.

I have had these Instant Hot water heaters for over 10 years. When they work as designed, they are very convenient. I use it to make tea, clean difficult dishes, etc. etc. However, they last less than 5 years. My first one lasted 5-6 years. Insinkerator was kind enough to send a replacement boiler that lasted a little over 4 years. In February, the unit started tripping its dedicated GFI plug. I replaced the entire unit because it was time and wanted to get the Coutour tap to replace my old tap. Fast forward almost exactly one month and the new boiler is shorting out. I had an electrician test the GFI plug. It was fine but even with a replacement, the unit shorts out! Very frustrating.

I recently had my hot water dispenser unit upgraded. It was installed by the plumber, but all went smoothly. The result is very fast heating (instant), nice looking fixture that has hot water available at the press of a lever. So nice not to have to put on a kettle for hot water!
We had Model H-classic-SS-1 installed and the handle split within a year and a half. I called the 800 number to try to get a replacement handle and was advised that the handle cannot be repaired. I was told by Insinkerator's customer service department that I had to replace the entire unit. The unit itself works ok but not being able to replace the faucet handle is a definite design flaw.
My last one, after a few years of service suddenly began to hiss and got my attention. Luckly I was home, because the unit was so hot the water inside the tank was just turning to steam! I unplugged it and waited for it to cool down, before removing it. The stench of burned plastic took a few days to go away. I am an electician and know the scent of burned wires, this matched that. I'm not sure why this suddenly happened, but there should have been a shutdown mechanism for such a problem. Since I've owned several of these units before, I purched one more. If this were to happen again, I would contact NEC about possible fire hazzard.
This is my third insinkerator. I love this product. The only problem I had this time is that the model I wanted did not come in white. I always had a white insinkerator before this one and also have a white kitchen faucet. I was very disappointed that I could not find another one in white this time. I could only find the chrome version at the time of purchase. It would never be my first choice and now I have to purchase a new kitchen faucet in chrome to match. My second choice would have been the stainless steel color but there was a very long wait time and the price was much more than the chrome version.
My wife is British and apparently they require a hot tea about every 30 minutes or so. I am not a tea drinker, so when I was tasked to fetch a cuppa, unfortunately my short attention span would allow me to turn on the kettle and walk away, only to be reminded 15 minutes later that I had not completed the task! Geez! With this Hot Water dispenser, I can have a perfect hot cup of tea ready within a minute! The wife is happier, and so am I :-)Installation was pretty simple save for finding the connector adapter to use, Two trips to the hardware store solved that, as the part was common.I'm very pleased with this purchase.
I had an InSinkErator automatic hot water dispense for decades, and loved it. Then I renovated my kitchen and put in a new one. What a mistake. There's some kind of coating on the inside of the unit that adds a foul chemical/plastic taste to the water. No matter how many times I've flushed out the tank, I can't get rid of the taste or the smell. I live in an area with beautiful-tasting water, so this is really shocking. The company was unhelpful. All they would do was direct me to a local authorized repair service. And all the repair service would do was order a new one to replace it.I said I didn't want it replaced. I wanted to know what was causing the foul taste, and whether they'd had complaints about it before. No one would discuss this with me.I would ... MoreI had an InSinkErator automatic hot water dispense for decades, and loved it. Then I renovated my kitchen and put in a new one. What a mistake. No one would discuss this with me.I would like the unit repaired, but InSinkErator won't even examine it to see what's wrong. I suspect that all of the new units are like this. InSinkErator needs to look into this.I noticed the same thing with the regular faucets in my kitchen and two bathrooms when they were renovated, only not as severe. In those taps, if I run the water long enough, the foul taste clears. In each case, the plumber had replaced my copper pipes with flexible PEX hose, which seems to be responsible for the problem. I had the plumber remove the PEX hose and put my copper pipes back in the kitchen, so I could drink the water out of the regular tap. That did the trick. This is a serious problem. InSinkErator needs to listen to its customers.
I had had my previous Insinkerator for over 15 years and it has served us well. In fact, it was still operating, except at the very hottest level. I ordered a replacement from Amazon which arrived the next day. i was quite nervous about the installation as there wasn't much room behind the drain and the garburator but it was very easy to flip off the 3 water connections and install the new unit - less than 10 minutes. As I am over 80 years of age, I don't expect to need to replace this Insinkerator heater within my lifetime!!
