I have had many instant pot duos over the years. This one is my favorite because of the color, design and the whisper quiet. However, the lights on the function buttons are gone except for 3. So now I only have 3 presets. Also, it's the first Instant Pot I bought that does not slow cook. The presets stopped right after the warranty was up so I couldn't contact customer service. Bummer!! So, I need to buy another one and I really need the slow cook to work as well as the presets. Would love another whisper quiet, but not sure I should.

My 75 yo mom received one as a gift from my sister. She did not know to use it so on a recent trip home I tried teaching my mom how to use the pressure cooker. She asked if I could sick a dot or something on the pressure cooker word as the text was too small for her old eyes even with glasses! I agreed but thought if she was having issues maybe others might be as well. So although she loves the ease if it (compared to her old weighted pressure cooker) she jokes she needs a “silver haired lady “ version that had pressure, slow cook, warm, and off with big font type! I thought I’d post here in hopes the development team is looking for a new line! Grandma friendly appliances!

I needed a new crockpot so I bought the instant pot thinking it would multitask and I'd have a pressure cooker and slow cooker in one appliance. It works just fine as a pressure cooker but it is a very poor slow cooker. I contacted the company and learned that it takes 4 hours or more to preheat on low and 2 hours on high. So plan to add the extra hours to your cook time or it won't be done/tender - learned that when I slow cooked a brisket.I tried slow cooking a chicken by starting it on pressure cook and then letting it remain on "keep warm" for the remaining hours. Not great. I'll probably buy another crockpot. It would be helpful if the slow cook limitations were disclosed in the description before you buy. Hope they work better than slow cook.
I am so pleased that I purchased this. I make a lot of bone broth, and that is mainly what I bought it for. I can't wait to make broth with heavier beef bones because pork and chicken bones softened up amazingly. I got rid of my stick free rice cooker, and can't wait to make rice or quinoa. I am extremely pleased... and it was on sale. I have to add that there is no mess with the steam water all over the stove like my stock pots. Two days to extract collagen vs a manageable amount of hours in an afternoon. Can't beat that 🥰
The package arrived with no protective wrap or cushioning in the outer box and two holes too. One of the holes lined with a hole in the product box. Opening the unit, it appears this might have been a previously used return item sold as new. Why? The underside of the pressure cooker lid was greasy. The box was missing a metal steam rack pictured as being included. The box was missing a user guide which I assume would also be part of a new in box sale. The main pot looked like it had material stuck to the inner bottom. The control panel had scuffs, not gouged, but scuff and did not have any protective plastic covering that I would expect on a new item. All in all not a even a close call on what I thought I would receive from Macy's. I imagine I could take it back to ... MoreThe package arrived with no protective wrap or cushioning in the outer box and two holes too. One of the holes lined with a hole in the product box. I imagine I could take it back to Macy's but then I also assume that I would be accused of not bring back an item that included all things that were missing when I received it. Just plain disappointed in this transaction.
Very difficult to make burrito bowls with which is primarily why I bought it. There are tips and tricks on YouTube that are worth a watch. If there is not an abundance of liquid, it will burn things if you do not preheat using sautée feature with the lid open prior to pressure cooking. The bowl itself is very difficult to keep clean. It had no non-stick properties to start with so you have to scrub and scrub with a nonabrasive sponge. Also, the if it says it is going to take 13 minutes to cook a dish, keep in my that is the cook time, not the preheat time. For a 13 minute cook, plan for 30+ minutes due to preheat time.
This is our first Instant Pot… the 6QT Duo Plus Multi-Use Pressure Cooker with WhisperQuiet Steam Release. And my wife and I were both impressed, especially since it allowed me, the one who does primarily does the grilling in the house, to do the “cooking,” for once.In the box you get the Instant Pot housing and lid, a removable 18/8 stainless steel cooking pot, an extra silicone lid gasket, in red (a clear gasket is already installed in the lid), a stainless steel steam rack, and various pieces of paperwork (including a get started guide and information on how to download the Instant app).I’m not a cook. I grill (and really, I only heat the food that my wife is kind enough to marinate a prep for me). So, fellow non-cookers (and cookers, alike), trust me when I say that if I can use this thing… so can you. Steps were super simple. Wash all washable parts (really the cooking pot, and a wipe-down of the inside of the lid). Download the Instant app from your favorite app store (or look online, as there’s a ton of Instant Pot recipes out there) – I downloaded the app and found a shredded chicken recipe that was ridiculously simple. Gather your ingredients (in this case 6 large chicken breasts (I doubled the app recipe), chicken broth, sea salt, and a bottle of buffalo chicken wing sauce). Prep your food (in this case wash and trim the chicken breasts)). Plug in the Instant Pot. Put the bowl in the Instant Pot housing. Follow the step-by-step app instructions, which boiled down to: place the ingredients in the bowl, place the lid on the housing, lock the lid in place, close the steam valve, choose the correct setting on the easy-to-read and -use display (or customize as needed, which I had to), press start, and wait (ensuring to follow the cues on the display).Display cues were simple. The display tells you (via a progress bar and word cues) when the unit is preheating (which was actually the longest part of the cook). It tells you when the lid is under pressure (and subsequently not to open the lid). It tells you when the cook is done, when you should open the steam valve (if applicable), and when it’s safe to open the lid. The hardest part of this process was a) figuring out how to set a customizable time (vs. using the button presets, as the recipe I used called for a 15-minute chicken cook, vs. the built-in 10-minute chicken setting) and b) shredding the chicken when it was done. FWIW, having never used an Instant Pot before (and not being an avid instruction reader), all you have to do to access customizations is press and hold the silver control knob. When you do, you can change the cook time. I think I’ll have to read the instructions for once, as this thing is supposed to have “25 customizable smart programs with step-by-step instructions [that] make recipes simple.”With the “hard part” (i.e., how to set a customized time) figured out, when the cook was done, all that I had to do was empty the condensation collector on the back of the housing (there wasn’t much water in the container), wipe down the nearly-spotless inside lid and seal, clean the stainless steel pot (which took all of two minutes), and let all pieces air dry. From prep to preheat (not counting the time that it took me to figure out how to customize the cook time, which was my fault due to being stubborn), from preheat to chicken shredding, from shredding to mixing in the wing sauce, from mixing in the wing sauce to serving the shredded chicken with some oven-baked fries, which baked while the chicken cooked, I had dinner on the table in 40 minutes. And, the family loved it. The chicken was juicy and tender… perfect. With my experience out of the way, what I’ll say is that this unit has the potential to replace a lot of appliances from what I can gather. The Instant app allows you to search and save favorite recipes. It lets you pick the ingredients you have on hand/plan to use and build a cook session around those ingredients. The unit has a “set it and forget it” approach with a “keep warm” function built in so that the food is warm and ready when you/family and friends are. The built-in steamer housing is quiet while the food cooks (no whistling) and the housing vents (when needed) direct the steam away from you (so no sweaty face). The lid-lock action is smooth (you don’t have to fight the lid to lock or unlock it) and the lid stays firmly locked until pressure is fully released. As far as what this thing can do, it’s supposed to be able to (and can, based on my recent experience) pressure cook. It’s supposed to be able to slow cook, cook rice, steam, sauté, make yogurt, cook “sous vide” (I had to look that one up… basically cook vacuum sealed food in a precise-temp water bath), bake cake, and keep food warm. Some other notes based on my online research… the lid and cooking pot are dishwasher-safe, the bowl is supposed to stay in place while stirring/sauteing (I can tell you that the housing has inner grips that keep the bowl from moving while it’s in the housing), it has “11+ proven safety features, including Overheat Protection and safe locking lid,” is BPA/PFOA/PTFE-free, is rated at 1000 watts, uses a 120 V~ 60 Hz (a standard wall outlet), and is UL & ULC Listed. The unit is large. We have a small kitchen with limited countertop space. So, at 13.43'' length, 13.35'' wide, and 12.76'' height, it won’t have a permanent home on our countertop. At 12.3 lbs it’s also not a light unit. While I had no problems wielding it, some might. But, the heft only serves to reinforce the unit’s build quality. And, FWIW, the Instant Pot is built wall and is aesthetically pleasing. If we had the countertop space, we wouldn’t hesitate leaving the unit out. My wife commented on how nice the pot looked (in gray and brushed steel, vs. the black and brushed steel/polished steel that we saw on other Instant Pots in stores). Regarding the stainless steel steaming rack, I can’t speak to durability, but (although much smaller) it reminds me a lot of the build quality of the standard steaming racks that we use to support the jars that my wife uses for canning and making jams. So, is the Instant Pot Duo Plus worth buying? Based on my experience (with my first real indoor meal under my belt), heck yes. It’s a solid four-star rating (which is great in my book, as it does exactly what manufactures say it will do – five stars goes above and beyond what a manufacturer says a product will do, so I hand out very few five stars). The Instant Pot Duo Plus was easy to set up, easy to use (after I figured out how to customize the time), easy to clean… and, most importantly, the final results of the shredded chicken recipe was a family pleaser. What more can you ask for? Will I use it again? Even though my role in the family for 20 years has primarily been grilling (with the occasional round of spaghetti thrown in)… it’s likely, as there’s a slow-cook meatloaf recipe in the app that I wouldn’t mind giving a try. My wife, on the other hand, said that she’s excited to try all the functions and a few of the recipes that the Instant Pot/app offers. With that in mind, cookers and non-cookers alike, I definitely recommend giving the Instant Pot Duo Plus a try. With how easy this thing is to use and given how versatile it seems to be, I don’t think you’ll regret the purchase.
Very Concerning Metallic chemical taste. I washed inner pot. I did 2 test runs before cooking some rinsed beans (newly bought) in water, with added salt and garlic powder. The cooking was completed fast. The taste was supper bitter, metallic and very chemical like. I googled to see what solution- there are multiple reviews saying the same thing, and how these taste doesnt go away. Thjs cannot be safe for human consumption, its that bad. I dont believe the 4.8 star rating anymore.
Just got my instapot yesterday, the delivery person didn’t check or answer to see if I was the right person he just saw that I came to the door and handed me the package. The box wasn’t sealed and didn’t come concealed so if someone wanted to steal my package they would know exactly what it was. When I got ready to use my pot and wash it, it was fairly dirty and had some black stuff in the crevices and the steam cover for the valve release looked like it was a bit damaged. The box was beat up but I can’t see any issues with the cooker. When I did use the cooker, dinner came out perfect, everything worked as it should! meat fell apart like butter and beans didn’t turn to mush (I made Stew Chicken). Would send a picture but it’s not allowing me.
