I've had the exact same model in the 6-quart version for over a year and thought I would get an additional eight quart for convenience because it was such a good deal on boxing day! I ended up trying two of these units both of which were defective. It failed the initial water test four out of five times and leaked steam through the steam release valve during the test which is not normal and my 6-quart version has never done that ever. I tried the recommendations made by instant pot and some other online users but none of them worked. I didn't bother exchanging it as right from the start it seemed that this unit was nowhere near as sturdy as the 6-quart version and even one of the rubber feet was not firmly attached and I found it on my dining room table and had to ... MoreI've had the exact same model in the 6-quart version for over a year and thought I would get an additional eight quart for convenience because it was such a good deal on boxing day! So it definitely seems like instant pot is having quality assurance issues and I definitely wouldn't recommend this machine and I'm not even sure if I would recommend them in general given my experience and the reviews that I've read regarding quality issues since this happened. Despite this I am quite happy with my 6-quart machine which has worked flawlessly and does a very good job. So if you're able to find a unit that works reliably I would say keep it but I guess overall reliability would remain to be seen. I've had my unit for a year and hopefully it'll keep working.

I'm a Professional Chef, so it may seem odd that I use a consumer grade appliance like this, and really love it. It's actually *because* I'm a professional that I feel that way. Successful professional cooking is all about consistency, the ability to accurately repeat or replicate recipes, and to be able to forecast how the finished dish will come out. Without consistent ingredients & equipment, without precise and predictable temperature control, that's impossible. What the Instant Pot gives me is push-button predictability, consistency and outcomes. This replaces a Crock Pot, a regular pot on the stove, an automatic rice cooker and a pressure cooker. You can make yogurt start to finish. I make various kinds of traditional Japanese miso, the koji spores have to be propagated at a constant, specific temperature and humidity for 48 hours, the jiu niang setting accomplishes this perfectly. Soybeans for tempeh. Soup, stew, etc I make tamales completely from scratch- I buy raw dried Mexican hominy corn, make the nixtamal overnight, I slow cook the pork shoulder or chicken then make the filling, then once the masa and filling are made and the tamales are formed, I steam pressure cook them for an hour. I make great tabasco style hot sauce with tomatoes and chilies from my garden. You can make perfect hard boiled eggs by steaming them and what's different from boiling is that if you boil them, the cooking time changes depending on how many you cook (more eggs = takes longer to boil). When you steam under pressure, it takes 5 minutes whether you cook 2 eggs or 20. I pressure steam small Idaho potatoes for mashed potatoes in their skin, that retains all of the starch and flavor, then rice them just like that, the ricer removes the skin and mashes them perfectly. This is my second one, the first lasted over 4 years of near daily use in my home kitchen. This latest model V3 has new control features & improvements, but the same rugged quality and dependability. A+ product!

My husband does most of the cooking, actually most of cooking includes the Instant Pot. He had one recently to stop working, He went on the web and found out what was wrong with it. He also researched the part needed to repair the pot, had me ordered the part. And when it came in and went to replaced the part he said another connection broke. He went on cooking for approximately 3 weeks without the Instant Pot. I could tell he was miserable without the Instant Pot, So I decided to order another pot for him. Needless to say he is a happy man again. I'm the person that does the cleaning, so yes I know it is easy to clean with the stainless steel pot inside.

We bought an 8 qt Instant Pot Duo thinking it would be a good, and larger, replacement for our slow cooker that stopped working. We intended to use it mostly for slow cooking with the pressure cooking and other features as a bonus. But we were disappointed when we tried it out and it took FOREVER to cook chili, stews, and soups. It seems it will take 10-12 hours to thoroughly cook these foods but there’s a limit to how long is practical. Not happy at the moment. Perhaps we will learn to like its other features once we learn how to use them well.
I have a basic 6 quart Instant Pot that I love but wanted to have a bigger one to fit all the ingredients when making soups or ribs. I was intrigued by the concept of quiet release. The upgrade is worth it for the extra room and quiet release. There’s still noise but it’s not going to scare your guests away. I love the look, too. The only down side is that the tabs on the top part isn’t directly centered like the other models. You’ll have to move the cover a little to the side to insert it into the slot to rest your cover on the side of the Instant Pot. It’s a not a big deal, I just need to break my habit from my previous Instant Pot.
My husband and I are pretty big cooks, and we are huge fans of scratch cooking. As you can imagine, scratch cooking certain dishes consumes a monumental amount of time, especially when we are making traditional dishes (I'm not from the US, so much of my South Asian cuisine uses legumes and grains that benefit from being pressure cooked). We decided to treat ourselves during a sale to an Instant Pot, after hearing great things about its ability to consolidate many cooking prep steps into a single dish. I will say, we are quite pleased overall with our Instant Pot! It's made cooking beans a breeze, and we've discovered faster ways and shortcuts to creating some delicious, traditional vegetarian meals that normally would take us quite a bit longer. It's made cooking beans a breeze, and we've discovered faster ways and shortcuts to creating some delicious, traditional vegetarian meals that normally would take us quite a bit longer. I will say that I do not think this product is quite the miracle worker that many tout it to be. While it does cut down on time when it comes to having a lot of dishes that need to be cleaned, it hasn't necessarily simplified all of the recipes I create. I think for typical American cooking, I can see the advantage to this in that it serves a lot of purposes. But if you already create very robust South Asian or East Asian meals, the amount of time the food needs to cook (and prep work with chopping vegetables, measuring ingredients, etc.) is not eliminated. I think there should be a bit more realistic marketing that is put forward with this tool. I think there are too many "mommy blogs" that tout it as the miracle staple in their kitchen, when really it's just a multifaceted pressure cooker. It does wonders in cutting down time for certain foods to cook, but do not expect this to transform your cooking methods to the extent that it is hyped. All in all, we are exceptionally pleased with our purchase. I think this would make a great gift for folks who are new to cooking (or cook fairly straightforward, simple dishes). If you're already a fairly seasoned chef, you might find yourself in our camp, where we really only use this once or twice a week. The rest of the time, we rely on our other kitchen tools for creating our traditional meals. It's not fair to say that this has become just another machine cluttering our kitchen counter-space, but it's also not quite accurate to tout this as a miraculous addition to our household. It's somewhere in-between.
I have trouble sleeping and I've always been a night owl since I was born according to my mother, so I make valerian root tea to help me get to sleep at night, but the people in my building complained about the smell, so I had to seal up around my door with masking tape so the smell wouldn't get in the hall and the other tenants wouldn't go running to complain to management, which makes me wish I hadn't sold my house!!, and I had to constantly make sure some incense was burning also when making this tea, and I was using an old time pressure cooker to try to get it done as fast as possible, instead of just boiling it in a regular pot which would take longer. The old pressure cooker also left me cleaning splattered valerian root tea, because sometimes it would get stuck in the old pressure cooker's vent. I would be stressed out making the tea with the old pressure cooker, and would end up with a mess to clean up, not to mention the noise of it. Now since I bought this new Instant Pot Duo 8 quart electronic pressure cooker, making my valerian root tea is a breeze!!. I am a night owl, so I have found the perfect way to make this tea now. At 3:30 am, I set the cooker, it takes about a 1/2 hour to get hot, then I set it to cook for 10 minutes, when it's done at around 4:10 am, I unplug it and go to bed, when I get up which is around 12:30 pm, the valerian tea in the pressure cooker is still warm with smoke circling around the tea at the top, then I strain it and store it in containers in my fridge. No more taping up around my door, no more cleaning splattered valerian off of the walls, cabinets and floor, and no more having to burn incense! I am in love with this pressure cooker, it has made my life so much easier and so much less stressful, I can't say enough good things about this new pressure cooker, I am so happy and overjoyed with this product, I am so glad I bought this!!!
Received my instant pot as a gift. I used it for breakfast almost every day, used it for dinner almost every day too. Pot in pot cooking was fantastic. Then, one day that c6h error came up and when I took the bottom piece off, I discovered that there had been a short or overheating of some kind that caused the metal to actually burn on the high pressure sensor component. When I contacted instant pot, they said, sorry to hear that, but since you got it as a gift we can't give you any warranty. So, buyer beware. Your warranty is not gonna be guaranteed, even when it's clear that it was a malfunction / poor design. Unfortunately, I will likely spend my money on a different electric pressure cooker to replace my instant pot.Sorry, but for the amount of money these devices cost, I expect that they should be able to last much longer than two years! What an absolute waste of resources. Now what do I do with this non-working instant pot? I'm going to try to repair it myself by bypassing the sensors altogether, however if that fails, this is a colossal waste that's going straight to the landfill.. So disappointed.
Overall is good but saute seems not working , it cannot bring water to boil. I am planning for return. I have 2 of 6qt & 1 of 3qt and 8qt now . One of 6qt also has problem of saute , but too late to find out the problem ,so return was not available & allowed . I reselled it to market .I am getting old and always boil the soup dry out. So instant pot is a big help to the absent-minded person like me, of course time saving.
The pot is convenient and easy to use as the company advertises. We like their good concept of saving time and energy to make delicious food. However, the first one we bought lasted only for about 1.5 years with the issue of sudden leaking steam when the pressure was reached. We guessed it was a safety issue that triggered the release. We contacted the company about the concern and they didn't explain why or which part of the pot went wrong. They offered to send us a replacement (looked like new) right away without further questions. This second pot lasted less than 1.5 years. Yesterday, when we pressed start and let it run its cooking, an awful strong smell of burning plastic came out from the pot. However, the smell from the pot still lingered till time of typing. We usually run the pot 1-2 times a day and have been carefully using our Instant Pot, especially after getting the replacement. But it looks like its quality is within that limit regardless being careful or not.We felt disappointed on its quality and are looking for other brand in the market. Again, good concept but disappointing quality.
