Seems Instant Pot has orphaned this product before it even hit the shelves for Xmas. Bought it because we were so happy with our 8 qt cooker but wanted something smaller or more frequent use. Put it to the test with the ultimate challenge; some Forbidden (aka black) Rice that on the stovetop almost always turns into a brick. The "Brown Rice" automagic button cooked 1 cup (dry) to perfection. But the lame manual that comes with it says 40-90 minutes and the cooker just says "ON" when you start it. With 10 minutes to go it switches to a countdown timer but no mention of this in the "manual". No recipes or other hints like there are for other Instant Pot products. This machine stores nicely inside our 8 quart cooker which is great! Design wise my only concern is difficulty in keeping the non-detachable lid clean. I really don't get the marketing strategy. If the idea was to get people to buy in at a low price point and then purchase additional Instant Pot products it seems like an opportunity squandered.

So, as much as I like my zest instant pot, I can not really recommend it anymore. If the pot or drip catcher get lost or damaged, there is no option or way to get replacements. My inner pot has gotten scratched up and worn out, so it's now a gloried dust collector.Even contacting customer service ended up without a resolution, as they could not get me one either.Sad, because I do like it enough that I would have given it a five star rating otherwise.

Was initially put off by some of the reviews. Yes the vegetables steamer is too small (really is) but I found that I can steam (or cook) the vegetables in the main pot. Yes most programs are set (can't change the time of cooking) but they set ones work very well and produce good food. Just need to play with the amount of water added to the different types of rice (the quantities suggested by the manual do NOT work). Initially I thought the timer is ONLY for the delay-start function (read that everywhere) but actually the STEAMING time can be altered which is great. Yes the condensed water/vapor can be a lot and falls on the table. I solved that by having a small towel put one of the sides and voila! No real issue. Overall, great product for the price.

Making rice has always been a chore for me to get it just right. I make a lot of stir-fry and getting the rice tender, but firm without being sticky/wet isn't easy on the stove. This appliance makes it simple; put it in, turn it on, and forget about it. I can also add some ingredients (like onion, carrot, etc) with the rice, and it comes out just right. I had two other rice cookers that I gave away because they just didn't consistently make the rice the way I liked it, and were not easy to clean (the main reason). This cooker is basically rinse and dry. Love it!
My 20 year old rice cooker bit the dust and I needed a replacement. I own an instant pot, but didn't care for the way rice came out of it and when I'm cooking my meal in the instant pot, I wanted a second machine for rice. I also wanted a smaller machine since my family eats grain in small portions. The machine is easy to use, but has very few settings. I have found that the brown rice and wild rice mixes we prefer turn out fluffy and light in this machine. My husband is beyond pleased. I'm sure white rice would turn out fine in it too. My only quibble is that the lid is locked to the top and the lid is difficult to clean. The bowl is non-stick and cleans up well. Hate the thing. I bought it (overpriced at $59) when my trusty Aroma steamer died after a good long life of almost daily use. As I use a steamer for my vegetables most days, I needed to replace it in a hurry and Amazon ($30 cheaper) wasn't delivering for several weeks, this was the only appliance available due to limited outlets in the COVID-19 closures. The wretched thing starts its countdown from when it begins heating the water rather than once steam temperature is reached - how on earth are you supposed accurately time how long something will take to cook? I am currently trying to 33 mins to steam cabbage and cook potatoes, ridiculous. The Aroma at least didn't start the countdown until the water was hot enough to steam. Just want to throw the thing out of the window - no more Instant Pot appliances for me. Oh, and the cord is shorter than my old steamer, had to rearrange kitchen counters to accommodate it and still be able to plug it in. Judging by other reviewers, it probably won't last long.
We've had the Zest for a couple of years and like it a lot. It sometimes does not completely cook the rice (lots of water in the pan at the end), but running another cook cycle usually fixes that. Annoying, but not insurmountable. Disappointed that we can't get a replacement pot for it, though. Sometimes we want to use it twice in a day, for oatmeal & rice, and it would be nice to just run two pots through the dishwasher rather than having to manually scrape out the oatmeal before cooking rice.
We cook a lot of rice in our house because we eat rice everyday. Having a good rice cooker is necessary for us because it is hard to cook rice on the stove. Instant Zest Rice and Grain Cooker does the job really well for us. The rice is perfectly cooked. The 4 smart programs make cooking our rice and grain perfect and fast. All we have to do is put the rice or grain, add water, plug it and then press one of the 4 smart program buttons. Then we can just leave it and come back when it is ready. When we are not ready to eat yet, we just keep it warm so it is stays warm. If we have leftover food, we use the included steamer tray to warm it up on top of the rice/grain while it is on “keep warm”. Steaming vegetable is also a breeze and making pudding is effortless. Love, love, love it!
Can't say enough good things about this appliance. While it's marketed as a rice cooker, and it does that job fantastically, it does so much more than that. It also comes with a vegetable steamer, rice measuring cup, and rice spoon which was a nice addition. The other day was my first time ever using a rice cooker and I would definitely say it was a huge success. I cooked quinoa on the bottom, while my shrimp and broccoli steamed on top in the steam basket. It was so good, and it cook really fast which is nice because I’m usually busy at night and it’s nice that I can put everything inside the cooker with the automatic timer, so I don’t have to constantly watch over it. It was a breeze to clean all the parts come off so you can get the cooker completely clean. I ... MoreCan't say enough good things about this appliance. I never knew I would use a rice maker so much until I got this one. Because I love my Instant Pot pressure cooker, I decided to try their Instant Zest. I chose the 8 cup version, which has been perfect so far.The first time I used this appliance, I wasn't sure how much rice or water to use. The included instruction booklet has a loose guideline, but defers users to follow the instructions on their rice packaging. I wanted a stickier Basmati rice, so I used slightly less water than the rice package called for, but slightly more than the Zest's guidelines. And then I nervously waited to see how it turned out (hungry family of 5 waiting). The rice came out perfectly! My husband was especially thrilled because he's not a fan of the instant rice I usually make. This ... MoreI never knew I would use a rice maker so much until I got this one. My husband was especially thrilled because he's not a fan of the instant rice I usually make. This was actually EASIER than making instant rice!I put the rice and water in the pot, close it, and push the button for white rice. With that method, there is no option to control time or temperature. But it comes out perfectly every time. I don't have to wait for water to boil before adding rice, and I don't worry about rice sticking to the bottom of the pan or any boiling over. I don't think we'll have instant rice very often, if ever, at our house again. The inner pot is non-stick, and I've not had anything stick to it yet, but the instructions say a little bit of oil can be used if wanted (I have not used oil). It has the little cup attached to the back to catch condensation (like on the pressure cooker), and the lid is attached to the unit, which I really like. It comes with a plastic utensil that won't scratch the pot, a steamer tray, and a measuring cup. Although I haven't used the saute feature, I'm assuming it works similarly to that feature on their pressure cooker, which I do use frequently and find to work quite well. I do use the Keep Warm feature, and even after 90 minutes past cooking completion, my rice is not over-cooked or dried out.I would highly recommend this product, and it will continue to get a lot of use in our family.
