I wanted to sell my AMD X570/5900X combo before the new AM5 platform was released, so I started looking for something new to tide me over. The Intel Alder Lake P-Cores piqued my interest, but as I'm a Windows 10 user not looking to move yet, I thought I would give the lowly Core i3-12100F quad-core a spin, paired with a B660 motherboard, 32GB DDR4 B-Die and an RTX 3070.The six-core I5-12400f was tempting, but at the time I purchased, it cost nearly double what the 12100F does and offered only a little extra FPS.I couldn't get my 32GB 8-Pack B-Die running at 3600MHz, it wouldn't even boot, no matter how much I played in the BIOS. Apparently, on the 12th Gen Intel platform, you can't overclock memory properly unless you have a "K" class CPU. The voltage that ... Apparently, on the 12th Gen Intel platform, you can't overclock memory properly unless you have a "K" class CPU. The voltage that boosts the CPU's memory controller (System Agent S/A) is locked, so you can only overclock the memory as far as the default S/A voltage will allow. I enjoy tinkering with B-Die, and I thought buying a B660 platform enabled full memory overclocking but apparently not.I eventually settled on DDR4-3466MHz with tight timings (14-14-14- etc) and getting around 53ns memory latency, that is actually lower than my previous AMD 5900x setup. Cooling is an old Noctua 140mm tower keeping the chip running in the 27c-50c range, and the low-power usage is especially welcome during the energy crisis.Been using this setup since the start of August 2022, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how good it is for the money. The RTX 3070 seems happy enough paired with a £100 CPU and all my games play very well @ 1080p 144Hz.

I have made a budget mid-tier gaming PC with this CPU and it keeps surprising me at just how well it performs. No matter what game I throw at it, it has absolutely no problem delivering hundreds of frames per second with appropriate in-game settings.Personally I prefer playing games at their highest possible setting at 1440p with RTX features, DLSS and the CPU typically sits at 30-60% utilisation. Meaning my FPS usually hovers around 56-89 respectively.Has no problem running Discord with a call in the background, nearly every game launcher there is, Spotify and Edge with over 8 tabs open. The included fan is mighty impressive too. Pretty much silent even when gaming and only becomes audible when it cranks up to full speed during brief and rare +90% CPU ... It's a Quad-core costing £100 and seems to be doing a great job running my games on Windows 10. Paired the CPU with a Gigabyte B660 Gaming X motherboard, 32GB DDR4-3600 BDie and an RTX 3070.The four Golden Cove cores run cool and don't use many watts. I couldn't get the 32GB memory kit running at 3600MHz XMP. After much BIOS fiddling, I got DDR4-3466MHz stable. I think if you have a 16GB kit you will run faster memory speeds than a 32Gb kit. If you want to fully tweak your memory to its max then you will need a "K" class CPU to unlock the system agent (S/A) voltage. When I get bored of this CPU, my next stop would probably be something like a 13th Gen 13400KF, which doesn't exist but would be Don Gorgon. The INTEL Core i3-12100F sets the price bar low and the ... Study your game benchmarks using the 12100f as a baseline, so if you desire a more expensive CPU you can ask yourself if the extra FPS is worth the great extra cost.Apart from the small issue with the locked S/A voltage that can limit memory overclocking, the Core i3-12100F is a near-perfect budget gaming chip. My RTX 3070 FE seems happy enough running FPS games at 1080p 144Hz, and my desktop, web-browsing experience is snappy and responsive.Happy with the purchase!
Pros: very powerful cpu, hasn't had any issues with the games I play and would be confident pairing it with a 3060 or 6600xt.
Amazing service from the great team at scan, this product is ideal for budget gaming pcs ive used several of these and no issues
Pros: nothingCons: didnt fome with the processor only a fan
It took them 3 weeks to send out the few items they apparently already had in stock and when I finally got them they had sent the wrong item for one of the items. They used to be great, now I hope they close down.
