13 pro max user: it adds almost nothing.

I would say that what’s different is not something I needed/wanted, and it’s even inconvenient at times.Let’s start with the cons:For instance, the always-on display decreases battery life (which was top tier in my 13 pro max), so I don’t use it. No one really needs this. The action button is nice, but I had to set it up to activate silent mode, as in my 13 pro max, given the limited options provided by apple. Though I find it useful when it’s activating my flashlight. Then, the camera control is a mess. Plus, the edges have been slightly rounded so the grip improved quite significantly.I’m giving it a 2/5 because I cannot give a 2.5, and I feel 3 is not accurate.

The watch issue is addressed with the 18.0.1/11.0.1 update and a unpair/pair cycle. iOS now feels a bit more stable, but I’m desperately awaiting the fix for transparency mode Headphone Accommodations turning off randomly with my AirPods Pro 2’s.Two of the headline s/w features of this release cycle - Apple Intelligence and AirPods as Hearing Aids, are still off in the distance. I’m sure they will arrive in the first half of next year, but I now have concerns about their stability given my experience with the dot-oh release. I’ll probably hold off for one or two updates past their initial release, or at least wait until favorable reports on their stability come in before committing. In general, I’m very happy with my new iPhone 16 Pro Max, but a bit disappointed with the maturity of the software release. Looking forward, I expect the software will improve and the new features will arrive. I’d just really like the transparency mode fix a bit sooner, please.

Today, I've sent probably 100 work-related texts and had my screen on for almost an hour straight troubleshooting a work account issue for someone else and I'm still at 83% at 2PM after starting my day at 5AM with the phone set to just about full brightness and no battery saving settings applied. In addition to the improved battery life, the screen itself is better than my last Samsung, and the camera is an amazing improvement, especially for macro-type shots for eBay and other e-commerce sites. Now, has this transition been all roses and butterflies? No, iOS, even iOS 18, is still STUPIDLY restrictive on customization of screen layouts. Is it better than it used to be? Sure, but it still lags behind Android 4, much less Android 14. It also took WAY too much effort to help my wife set up her sender-specific ringtones, but I got that done to save myself from marital discord.

Maybe the best technology I’ve owned, ever.
23 November 2024

Let me start by saying that I collect technology. My title isn’t an exaggeration. I hunt for new things that no one has heard of yet and I try to own it first. lately I have been slower at adopting new things as I’ve been burned before and money doesn’t grow on trees or fall out of armored trucks, for me. But this is worth the buy, here’s why:I upgraded from my iPhone 12 Pro Max to the 16 Pro Max for a couple of reasons. The first is that the battery in the 16 is supposed to be far better with new tech that is supposed to help it last longer. I have killed batteries on my past phones as they are my lifeline. The second reason is that the Apple ProRes 4K 60 fps shooting to external HD ups my video skill greatly and makes editing easier on FCPX. I have had an iPhone since the second or third week they were first released to the market. I’ve had many, many models and I considered myself a pro-level user. I am not a guy who bothers with reading manuals. It’s an iPhone, they are easy if you have had them from the start. Well, this phone is different. I have had it now for just over a month and I am still finding out about a new feature, by accident, every other day. A new cool feature that iPhone never did before. I can’t even name like the coolest one because that are all cool and handy and seem like overkill until you consider; ā€œI don’t know why anyone would need a phone to do this… I have no idea where this feature has been all my life!!ā€. The camera array is amazing! The spatial camera is very cool if you have a pair of video glasses that support the format. It is beyond words. The link it has to my watch series 10 is better as it get a distance readout for how far I am from one of my missing items to zero in on them faster and more accurately. Going from the large notch on the top of the screen to the oval cutout I thought would look dumb, but it actually is done in a way that incorporates enough of that oval that it still gives information and I am amazed at how useful it is compared to the iPhone 12. The speed of the phone is very noticeable as well. Very little loading time for pages and apps. The two new buttons for the camera and a function button that is assignable are also great additions.I do highly recommend buying both a screen protector AND a camera lens protector to prevent damage to your new device. When you invest in something this advanced the last thing you want to do is scratch it up to the point you ruin the clarity of photos and video. Plus, it just makes your devices, no matter what brand you carry, look junky. I have mine in front and camera glass shielding, with different colors to make my phone stand out. I have 3 different cases for the phone- one is a nice camera rig for serious photographers and amateur filmmaking. The others are just depending on the stylish mood I am in when I go out, with one being a carbon fiber and wood case and another is a plain basic case for if I am going out to a tech-hostile environment, like say a sporting event or Black Friday shopping event. Here is a weird skill I just found last week that I found incredibly helpful and weird at the same time: the flashlight is tunable. You can narrow the beam or widen it. Crazy, right?! Not if you are looking for something and don’t want to disturb others in the movie theater or need to see a wider area at night. So far, the AI hasn’t really proven intrusive as far as it hasn’t made itself really known when I do things. The only time I know I am using it is when editing photos and it can suggest things to remove from the photo without destroying the subjects in the photo. If you’ve made it this far in the review, you are a trooper and probably avoiding another task. I salute you. Cheers!

Not the Huge Upgrade I Expected, But a Great Phone
17 November 2024

PROS:The iPhone 16 Pro Max (1TB) is slightly larger physically than my prior phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max 512Gb). The built-in audio is amazing - as a musician and audio geek this is a huge bonus. The mute/unmute switch has been replaced by an assignable button, which is mostly a great feature. It is definitely easier to access with the phone in a case than the old switch was. The screen has better specs than my old phone but I don't see much of a difference. There may be a slightly better contrast or sharpness than before. I was initially concerned about the USB-C plug but it's been a lot easier to find USB-C accessories than any of the other proprietary Apple connectors. I was initially concerned about the USB-C plug but it's been a lot easier to find USB-C accessories than any of the other proprietary Apple connectors. There are three cameras on the back of the phone with a slightly better digital zoom option than before. The front-facing camera has better resolution and color than previous models.CONS:With the case on it no longer slides into my t-shirt pocket while I'm working (a slight nuisance). The AI features are even worse than how autocorrect/predictive text has become over the past four years, but most of those features can be turned off so not to be cumbersome stumbling blocks to my personal communication style, organizational strategies, or shopping habits. The assignable mute button takes some getting used to - it's in the place formerly occupied by the "volume up" button (with the volume buttons moved down), so habitual volume adjust bent for certain tasks and apps often results in me muting the phone instead of increasing the volume. The battery is advertised to last much longer than my prior phone (and was the primary reason for my upgrade) but it lasts me about 15 hours before it needs to be charged again. As with prior iPhones, Apple does not sell the charging block with the phone; you receive the iPhone and one USB-C to USB-C cable. Despite three cameras, the strongest zoom camera produces grainy images. It does magnify the image considerably (I got some good moon photos), but the resulting quality is splotchy. Under better light the images look better, though.Aside from less-than-expected battery life, my only other more serious concern is that this new and unburdened 1Tb iPhone seems a lot slower than my maxed out storage 512Gb iPhone. Internet connection is slower (and sometimes does not connect) and some apps hang a little. I don't think this is the carrier (the same issues occur on wifi), and some apps seem to be working better today than last week. During the initial transfer/set up of the phone (which took almost two, uninterrupted days!) I did learn that the phone will be slower while it's updating, some apps weren't updated to work best with the latest iOS, etc ... but the sluggishness has continued. After having this phone over a week, I'm still struggling to manually download hundreds of apps that did not automatically download during the iPhone transfer.

Rock Star Cellphone!

Excellent New Mold, Thinner yet, feels so much better, like a solid piece of metal without the wait. Everything is better, faster, stronger, the Superman of cellphones! Been a loyal AT&T customer for as long as we’ve have cellphones and loyal iPhone customer since Apple has joined the game and both stayed far ahead of all. We used to constantly get dropped calls and super expensive ā€œroaming feesā€ for leaving your calling area but, sometimes that would merely be going 2 blocks away and literally getting charged for using the cell service from the next State over yet, AT&T was known for keeping your calls connected and never ā€œroamingā€ making then #1 always as well as improving service again and again. The thing is, Cell Service is only as good as your cellphone and having an iPhone was a game changer, nothing ever compared and as it seems, nothing ever will. Just received my new iPhone 16 Pro Max 1TB, bought online from AT&T and delivered a full 14 days earlier that the delivery date promised, one of those super rare surprises nowadays and what a welcome surprise it was. I have had it for 3 full days now and haven’t stopped playing with it and I love it already. Gone are the days of going to the local cellphone stores, AT&T store or Apple store, wait in line or go up to a screen just to get a number only to have to wait for someone to setup your new phone as it was supposedly ā€œToo Complicatedā€ for anyone to do by themselves and say ā€œHelloā€ to the easiest ever ā€œSetup At Homeā€!!! So ridiculously easy as all you do is answer a few questions on your phone and choose between the ā€œiCloudā€ or ā€œCopy(Clone)ā€ of you data to your new phone and once you pick your choice, everything is done automatically so, you can go on to do work, watch TV whatever you want as you are now free to do whatever you want while everything is being done for you and there’s a timer on the phone letting you know time remaining until finished. I choose to copy my old iPhone to the New iPhone 16 and when finished, it was the perfect clone, everything down to the APPS location on my screen were identical, phone numbers, all files and everything exactly where it should be making it a pleasure to jump right into using my phone was awesome. Now for the good stuff as I am completely enjoying myself while taking my time to learn all that is new and added.I really really like the feel of this new phone and as far as all the new stuff, you don’t need to learn anything to get back to where you were with you older model as it’s all where you like it but, being the guy that I am or the ā€œAverage Dudeā€, this is my latest and greatest New Toy so, learning all the new upgrades, additions and things I didn’t know about has been a blast learning and playing with and I will take my time to enjoy it all. This is Absolutely The Best Phone out there, in my opinion, I have tried others yet, I always come back to the iPhone as it seems to be the one phone that has it all and I just haven’t found anything else that comes close at any price. I can’t see anyone being disappointed by this latest and greatest iPhone from Apple and I can see all that purchase the iPhone 16, loving it as it is truly that good. Five Stars āļø āļøāļøāļøāļø and 😊😊😊😊😊!!!

Wow! ProMax 16 Excellency Defined
28 September 2024

Well, there is much new in the Iphone Pro Max. I upgraded from an Iphone 12 Pro Max. Both phones are excellent, but the new PM16 is a major step forward. Most of the technical details are addressed by people more qualified than me. So I will focus on points that mean most to me. One of these I didn’t even expect. On the upper left side is a button which can be programmed to activate any one of several options. To me the most useful and extraordinary function is that if there is music playing around you (not necessarily on the phone), you can press the button for a second or two and the screen will identify the title of the music being played and the artist. The phone also is noticeably faster to respond, has better battery life and faster charging. The picture is truly crystal clear. It also has a couple of features that allow for detection of emergency situations and easy connection to emergency services. It also has a very fast and easy to use method of transferring all my apps and data to the new phone, without the need to go to the store to have them work their magic. In short, I am very pleased with the new phone

[Rewarded Review] AT&T Upgrade Pro Tip Included in this Review

My experience with Best Buy and AT&T honestly couldn’t be better.Pre-ordered the iPhone 16 Pro Max as a trade-in upgrade & picked it up from Best Buy on Friday, 9/20.Super smooth & super quick - I was literally in & out of Best Buy in less than 4 minutes.Best Buy had my iPhone ready for pickup at the check-out counter and I didn’t even have to swipe my Best Buy credit card; they just checked my ID.Powered on the new 16 Pro Max when I got home and it was already synced to my AT&T phone number right out of the box. Taking photos is also snappier as one would expect due to the faster processor.Pro Tip:(This might only work with AT&T – all lines must be under the same account)I’ve still got 24 months left on my 15 Pro Max contract which is my main phone line, but my father’s 13 Pro Max (under my family plan) is now paid off. I also have a secondary business line that had no contract attached to it.So, I upgraded my business line to get the 16 Pro Max for $5 per month with trade-in, and had AT&T move the line on my 15 (which is still under contract) to the new 16 Pro Max (which is also under contract), and I gave my father my 15 Pro Max, and we’re trading his old 13 Pro Max to qualify for the $1,000 off over 36 months. In September 2025 the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be eligible for upgrade, so I’ll upgrade my main phone line, give my father the 16 Pro Max, and get a 17 Pro Max for $5 per month. You can leap frog like this with AT&T and qualify for the $1,000 off iPhone offer each year if you have multiple phone lines. It’s an awesome way to get a new iPhone every year or two for you and your family. If you don’t have multiple lines, AT&T now has an upgrade every year option called Up Next for $10/mo. that allows you to upgrade every year, without the fancy footwork.

[Rewarded Review] Its a decent iPhone but should be better

I give it 4 stars depending on what you are upgrading from. If from something older than a 13 or so then it will be a pretty amazing upgrade. But there are still a few dated things about this phone that make me give 1 star less. I feel like Apple is a bit behind the curve at this point. This phone is still pretty amazing but it could be better.Design: Meh I mean there is only so much you can do with an iPhone or any phone but this is dated. I can't stand the camera bump and how it makes the phone tilt. If you use your phone careless it's a huge pain. The titanium is OK, but honestly the thing is far too heavy. And it got a smidge heavier from the 15 Pro Max, these phones need to lose some weight to be truly comfortable.Screen: Exceptional. the 120MHz and colors, ...Ā MoreI give it 4 stars depending on what you are upgrading from. And it got a smidge heavier from the 15 Pro Max, these phones need to lose some weight to be truly comfortable.Screen: Exceptional. the 120MHz and colors, etc are all great. Apple needs to work on PWM (flickering) if you are sensitive to it (many are not) its not great, Apple could spring a few bucks to have a great MHz but they have not done so and its cheap in my opinion. But overall it's a great display. The 16 Plus should have 120MHz at this point I would have gotten that one if it did. Again Apple being cheap and not bringing tech that should be in 2024 as a minimum on all devices given what they charge.A18 Pro: amazing I mean iOS will not even blink with this chip. The phone can overheat but so far it's been good compared to my 15Max which was overheating constantly and while annoying would constantly dim the display and that was super annoying when it happened. So let's hope that is truly taken care of.Colors: So boring. I got the Desert and its nice, its like a Rosy Gold in certain lighting think iPhone 12 or XS. It's not ugly but the colors are just so bland compared to the 16. And it's a shame that Apple cannot seem to release at least 1 fun color or something bold on the Pro. Like Pro people cannot have a bit of fun? Its insane. The white is also quite nice its actually like white not some creamy off white like the 15 pro max was, but like true Apple white. The other colors are meh. If you like Black that is closer to pure black or the Space Black MacBook Pro.Camera / Button: I dont really use my camera that much, but it's definitely top notch. But so was the 15Pro Max so what are we really gaining here? I feel like these have become more professional cameras and everything is like a side show. That's fine for the pro photographers but I feel like they are missing people that do other things on their phones. The button is meh. It's cool to capture photos relatively quickly but it's positioned weird so your mileage may vary and the scroll thing on is too gimmicky to futz with for me anyway. If you have a case on make sure you get one that supports it or you may not be able to access the button properly and it will drive you nuts.iOS 18: Again it's OK, I feel like iOS is getting to be bloated. The bottom bar is different in many apps and it drives me nuts particularly on the Max. Even the new you can place icons anywhere is still half baked. And the setup is a hot mess! I dont know who tested that nightmare ugh but I recommend doing the encrypted backup to get started. Phone to Phone is a joke this year. The lack of multitasking on the Max is also a huge missed opportunity. The screen is huge but you cannot do anything different from the smaller one? Like what. that just doesn't make sense.Battery: Exceptional! This thing lasts forever.Compared to iPhone 16 Pro: I got the regular Pro first to see if the 6.3 would be good enough since I had a max for years but they are just so heavy I got sick of them. I tried for a few days and it was lighter but still quite dense so the weight savings were not that great overall. The max weighs a bit more but its spread over a larger area so feels less dense and therefore feels lighter. Still they are both heavy. The 16Pro is nice but the 6.3 is just still too small sadly. Hopefully the 6.5 iPhone 17 is the goldilocks with hopefully 120MHz and nice colors.Overall Its an iPhone and a decent one but for the price it should be better at this point.
