Excellent drill bit set for the money. I'm very pleased and have already used them on several tough projects. I always clean after each use with a slightly oiled rag and also like to use a pre-drill technique by using smaller bits and slowly graduating to my final bit size; typically, when drilling into extremely hard surface materials and substrates. I also use lubricating oil to minimize heat build-up/friction, and avoid unnecessary wear. Yeah, they're "cobalt" but that that doesn't mean they can't be destroyed in relatively quick fashion if you don't use common sense for various applications. Lubricated bits last longer. Good drill set for the price. This is my second set. We ground the first set to nothing in a part time fab shop over the course of several years. Had them sharpened once. May still sharpen the old set but for how we use them a new set every few years is acceptable.Good range of sizes. Quality made. Extra bits for the smallest sizes. Use some lubrication on metal jobs and they will be a good addition to any shop.

Excellent value for a needed item for my shop. These were highly rated by a number of websites that rate these kinds of tools. Go ahead - plug in "best cobalt drill bit set" into a Google search & you will find what I did - this is your best bet for a $100 cobalt bit set. Also, the case is great - heavy duty, well made, & will likely last beyond my years.

I got tired of other drill bits barely drilling into steel and then breaking. Spent some money and it was so worth it.Pros:Cut like butter, maybe too well on mild steelIn the drill press these work amazing, nice clean cuts.Cons:Without a hex/flatted shank these bite and dig quickly so in a battery powered hand chuck drill the bit ends up catching and the drill keeps spinning around because it can't hold the bit still. These are so sharp and durable though you can step back and nibble it away with some care.
The bits are good quality, but the case is big and clumsy compared to the old metal Craftsman case on my last set of bits. I tried to put the new bits in the old case, but they are just a tad too big to fit which I don't understand. I haven't used them yet to predrill a hole for tapping threads. If they are too far out of tolerance I'll revise the rating Revision: After using these for about a year, I'd say they are not good quality. I've broken 3 bits so far with very limited use. They are extremely brittle. On top of that, the size tolerances are off -- too big.
These are great bits. All of them are razor sharp and dead straight. The ones I've used and measured are perfectly sized. The only thing I didn't like was how the box closes. It's a pain to get it open and also to get it fully closed and latched. They could have come up with a better design for how the box latch mechanism works.
These drill bits are tough and the case is nice. I would have given 5 stars but it came 1 drill bit short. The 11/32 was missing. Otherwise I highly recommend these. Ive drilled into rolled steel, bar stock and DOM tubing with 0 issues at all. I use them almost every weekend on metal rojects and they barely even look worn. I would put them right up there with my Snap-On bits I replaced with these after several years of use.
These work well. Some youngsters don't like them because the run them too fast in metal. In wood, aluminium and plastic you can run these at high speed. But on steel you need to use a very low speed. The steel should peel up in short strips. Otherwise the leading edge will heat and then blunt. That being said, I had to sharpen them all in my Drill Doctor because they did not come sharp enough out of the box. Once sharpened, however, and if you run them slowly in steel, they work and last fine.
I bought this drill bit set after doing a search for ones that could drill into stainless steel. I had to drill out some #8 stainless steel screws that were so corroded (actually, I think it was material around the screws) from being out in the weather for so many years that they broke off. These bits drilled into the screws enough for me to remove the body of the screws so I could re-tap the holes. They were worth every penny!
Totally worth the extra money. These cobalt's are not just some coating or fancy marketing tactic. They are actually a cobalt-steel alloy that is harder than normal high speed steel. I saw a review earlier that said you could drill through normal drill bits with these, so I thought why not give them a try. I put the 3/16" cobalt bit in my drill press and drilled down into an old craftsman high speed steel bit. It worked, no apparent damage to the cobalt. I am not sure why I didn't invest in a good set of drill bits 20 years ago.
