As a witness and survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945, Issey Miyake has been able to move beyond the death and destruction at the center of his universe as a seven-year-old boy to bring beauty to the world through his creativity. Known for his conceptual work, much of it incorporating age-old Japanese traditions and craftsmanship with current technology, Miyake found success in the fashion world. He draws his inspiration from art, architecture, and personal encounters, all the while guided by an appreciation of the human silhouette set against a natural backdrop. The Miyake Design Studio, founded in 1970, has been a center for innovation for the designer, producing high-end women's fashions and perfecting new techniques and innovations that are used for his creations.
