Got this just a few days ago and, can't say I'm blown away by the build quality. I purchased the steel one as it sounded like if would be solid. However, it feels quite flimsy and the fact you cant lock it in place is a real bummer. I know its just a foot rest but, its really nothing special.

Overall, the footrest looks sturdy and I think it will not crack like the previous plastic one that I had. But the tiny rubber 'non-slip' pads rubbed off the bottom of the footrest within 30mins of me starting to use it. My office is carpeted, and the rubber stops still slip slightly, but real issue was that the adhesive let go and they simply rolled/tore off! I considered returning, but instead I'll purchase some better non-slip pads that will lock it in place on carpet.

The footrest is overall a great design. It is comfortable and offers as much flexibility as I need. What has disappointed me is the fact that on day 1 of receiving it the grip has started lifting.

The footrest lets me tilt my tilt my feet and the rubber surface has plenty of grip to my feet in place
Nice and solid metal footrest. Especially for the price. There are three height adjustment positions. Unfortunately the angle adjustment is only kept by friction on two bolts. Really hard to get them tight enough to keep position. I drilled two small holes and added bolts to hold the top in place. But definitely shouldn't have to. Particularly as it's unlikely they would honour the warranty now...
Sorry, but the design fault with this footrest is that the tightening mechanism for the top plate is only one nut on each side, not two. So no matter how tight you try and do them up, the footrest won’t stay level, it just pivots on the single screws. This means you can’t have the top part of the footrest flat, it moves about and tilts as you work. I’ll be returning mine.
It is a really good product. it is sturdy and will last for years as it is made out of metal. The rough surface feels nice and helps your feet remain in place whether you are wearing shoes or working barefoot. You may not like it if you want your footrest to be able to lock at an even level. this one doesn't lock it pivots at an angle. but I find it better because I can manipulate it with my feet and move them back or forwards at any time.
Heavier than expected but very sturdy. Able to make 3 height adjustments, not easy to change adjustment. Bottom rubbers does not gripe well, will move on hard floor surfaces but okay for carpet.
I've had this footrest for 4 years now. I purchased it after breaking multiple plastic footrests, which were in a similar price range, but not made for people to put feet on them (you'd think they would be). Despite the fact this thing tilts all the time, and you can't lock it flat, I've actually found it liberating. I can move my feet around, and can change position to get more comfortable after sitting in the one position for a while. As a contractor, I've lumbered it from job to job, and it's still going strong.
As other reviews stated, its solid, its all metal not plastic. The top is not rough, and has good grip.Whilst it doesn't lock in place 100%, I expected that it wouldn't based on the other reviews. It is quite firm, and if you want to move feet now and then you can, which is nice.I would expect the build quality to last for many years based on its 100% metal structure / build.
