Basically, every whisky is a blend, because before bottling, different casks are selected from the warehouse and blended together. Sometimes one bottle carries the contents of hundreds of casks. In this way the whisky masters want to ensure the continuity of their products. However, as long as all components have the same style, origin and age, they are not officially called a blend. Single barrel whiskies are interesting in that they come onto the market unblended. They have been overprinted by a single cask with a very specific history and position.
