This unique game has two Acts: Amity Island and The Orca. For those who know the film Jaws, this is a fun way to take part in the story. However, this definitely is a game for seasoned game players (12+) as the intructions and phases of the game are complex. To help with this, we really recommend the 'How to play video' in addition to reading the instruction booklet. We liked how the characters Hooper, Brody and Quint can work together in a team to defeat the shark. Another great feature is that there's a lot of flexibility in the game as you can play the full game or a shortened version and it can be played with 2, 3 or 4 players. Stick with this game, once you've worked it out -it's worth it!Izzy (15) and David (13)

This game looks quite complex when you open the box, and the instructions are quite lengthy. Once you get your head around it though, it's a pretty good game of chase. It doesn't work until he traditional my turn your turn way, but one player is the shark, and the other 1 - 3 take roles as Quint, Brody or Hooper. All have actions specific to them, and so the three 'hunters' must work as a team to try and locate and catch the shark! The shark isn't visible on the board, and tracks his movements on a note pad instead. However, certain actions can make the shark be revealed for that turn, aiding the tracking and capture. We have only played act one so far, which is what I've explained above, the board has another game on the reverse which is Act 2, the Orca. The game ... MoreThis game looks quite complex when you open the box, and the instructions are quite lengthy. It's been quite a while since I tried a new board game but I can definitely see myself coming back to this time and time again. I suspect it will be brought out at Christmas for a bit of family bonding! The general premise of the game is that one player is the shark, while the other 3 players are Brody, Hooper and Quint who work together to defeat the shark. The ultimate goal is survival. Either Jaws will win or he will be killed. The game is split into two halves, reflected by two sides to the board and mimics the original movie scenes. As a game, it is a little bit at the mercy of the dice but that does make it quite fun and raises the suspense levels as you never quite know how things will end up.After a first read of the instructions, I was a little bit ... MoreIt's been quite a while since I tried a new board game but I can definitely see myself coming back to this time and time again. Younger players (9-12) could probably take part as part of the team (Brody, Hooper, Quint) in spite of the 12+ rating and find it a really enjoyable experience. In the two times that we've played it up until now, we finished in under an hour. All in all, Jaws is fun, not too heavy and one to keep on the board game rotation!

Well Christmas is coming and in my house that's board game family time with a healthy amount of sibling rivalry thrown in!! Thought I'd get ahead (cheat) and get the new game out - tired of the traditional favourites which was great where Jaws came in. Instructions are a little in-depth and long taking a few reads to really get everything out of the game - I found it helped to watch a couple of the online videos as a group to really grasp the game. However a really fun game of two halves traditional board game with a few twists and throw backs to the films in via game play also. All round good fun. Only slight downside was I thought the board could have been slightly bigger as it got cramped sometimes however this did not spoil the overall enjoyment. A well thought out game with good game play and plenty of opportunities to crack out the classic lines.........'You're going to need a bigger boat!' It helped having jaws playing in the background for the younger ones who knew nothing about the film but this did not spoil their overall enjoyment - go for it but not before presents!
I like the dual nature of this game. It takes place in two "acys": Amity Island and The Orca. The board itself is even two-sided and features full-color graphics. Whether you are the shark or one of the crew, there are enough challenges to keep you engaged. The directions are long. Keep them handy as you play so you can easily refer to them. You'll need to. Once you play a few times and get used to different tokens and crew actions, the game pace is steady. The 16-year-old we played with enjoyed it. The 12-year-old dis not. He barely made it through. He didn't have the patience to sit through us referring back to the directions frequently. You don't have to be a fan of the movie "Jaws" to play this game as no movie knowledge is required. This board game is a game of two halves - or acts - mirroring the plot of the great Spielberg film. The first part is similar to the classic Minesweeper game where up to three players take on the role of the three main characters of the film in a bid to find the shark while the player taking on the role of the shark has the macabre task of eating as many swimmers as possible. The second act of the game is on the flip side of the board and is a reproduction of the crew on the boat - the Orca - attempting to fight off the shark using a number of weapons and special equipment with success relying on the roll of three special die.The first half seems to favour the shark but this is balanced out in the second half making the outcome unpredictable and therefore, yes, ... MoreThis board game is a game of two halves - or acts - mirroring the plot of the great Spielberg film. The first part is similar to the classic Minesweeper game where up to three players take on the role of the three main characters of the film in a bid to find the shark while the player taking on the role of the shark has the macabre task of eating as many swimmers as possible. The second act of the game is on the flip side of the board and is a reproduction of the crew on the boat - the Orca - attempting to fight off the shark using a number of weapons and special equipment with success relying on the roll of three special die.The first half seems to favour the shark but this is balanced out in the second half making the outcome unpredictable and therefore, yes, with tension like the film as you never know if the shark is going to eat everyone up!The game is fun once you have got to grips with the various rules and gameplay methods which are very specific to the game. It can be played between two and four players but I think four is better as then the crew members can gang up on the shark better. Our first game took two hours to play but this time will come down as you get used to the rules and how to play.Definitely recommended for fans of the film!
Awesome interpretation of a classic movie. You don't have to have seen the movie to play though! If you HAVE seen the movie, you'll appreciate the attention to detail with the connection to the characters, Amity Island, the weapons, the Orca, and more. Game play is well thought out. Graphics are detailed and whimsical. And the game pieces include both cardboard and wooden pieces are high quality, not flimsy. In the first act, up to 3 players (Quint, Brody, and Hooper) coordinate with unique roles to try and locate and attach barrels to the shark. The 4th player tries to elude capture and eat as many swimmers as possible. In the 2nd act, the shark attacks the Orca and tries to either destroy the boat or eat all 3 characters. There are a lot of small pieces and intricate rules for each character, so the age recommendation is appropriate. I played with my 10-14 year old nephews and once they learned the rules, they immediately started strategizing and thinking multiple turns ahead. I liked the division into 2 "Acts." You can play both back to back or separately. We liked connecting the 2 Acts because the winner of the first act got an advantage in the second. Overall very enjoyable strategy game! I received an advance copy of the game in exchange for my opinion.
Tense!Me and my Mrs played this for the first time last night.Kept us very engaged for a couple of hours, love how the game has two acts. Could be overwhelming if you try and learn how to play the game as a whole. So we focussed on learning Act 1, then playing through that, before focussing on Act 2. Reminded us of Scotland Yard in places which is no bad thing!Genuine sense of tension as the game progresses, I played as the hunting party and it came down to the last throw the dice as to see if I was successful in killing the shark. Failure would have resulted in the shark no doubt finishing off the boat.A few unclear bits in the rules but nothing major, gonna look online to see if anyone else can clarify. This however did not take away the over all enjoyment ... MoreTense!Me and my Mrs played this for the first time last night.Kept us very engaged for a couple of hours, love how the game has two acts. As a big Jaws fan I was excited to play the board game. The box, pieces and board itself are of really nice quality. I especially love the movie quotes that appear throughout. My only small gripe was that a pencil isn't provided for the shark tracker pad. The game is set in two acts and should take around one hour to play. However, it is pretty complicated and certainly will take much longer than that the first time you play it (we played for over two and a half hours and still didn't get to the end). The second time we played we'd got the hang of it and it was great. One person plays the shark and then you can have up to three people playing a character each (if there's only two of you playing someone has to play all three characters). It's much, much better if you have more people as then you all work together against the shark and lots of discussion is generated. Because it's set in two acts it really feels like two games in one. If you're into board games I'd definitely recommend this as the gameplay is great and it's such an iconic theme.
This board game is in two acts. You play the first act, then flip the board over to reveal the vessel and it's then that the 'fight' starts between the shark, Quint, Hooper and Brody!! Of course throughout we have the swimmers that have been eaten. One player is the shark while the others are the huntersThere are twists along the way with secret action cards, barrels. This game is brilliant, it needs skill, but you do get immersed in it. It has the Ravensburger name which to me means quality. It says from 12 years up which is about right, but I know younger members of the family will love it and get engrossed. So to summarise, this game is absolutely great and would be wonderful for a family at Christmas.
