Got these as a replacement for an older Sony sound bar that finally bit the dust after many years. I took a risk having never bought a jbl product before. After this experience I would not buy another JBL product.First off, the sound is absolutely awful, I don't know how to describe it besides it sounds like the mids and highs are coming out of a cardboard tube. The sound is slightly improved if you turn off surround mode, but that sort of defeats the purpose of a sound bar in my opinion. Also, you have to turn this feature off manually, using the included remote, every single time you turn the device on - which is painful and absolutely defeats the purpose of using the soundbar with ARC connectivity (so you only need the TV remote to control volume).Second - ... MoreGot these as a replacement for an older Sony sound bar that finally bit the dust after many years. This causes problems for JBL soundbar, and it would not awaken out of standby mode, which for me, again, defeats the purpose of ARC connectivity.Last - the bass is WAYYY too heavy, even on the lowest setting. This is an absolute death sentence for gaming and TV audio. Maybe not so much if all you do is watch cinema style movies and listen to music.I quickly returned this one for a similar Sony model, and none of these problems exist in that soundbar. I would never take another chance with JBL after this experience.

I cant even express the level of disappointment. I had read so many reviews on multple sites that this set rocked. Vibrated things in rooms and on tables, upset neighbors in an apartment and so on. Advertised as such deep base, matches or betters 5.1 systems and so on. Well sad to say, not even close. The soundbar does have better sound across all three ranges than the tv. It also gets very loud with little to no distorting, in the soundbar. The sub has very low volume, the sound seems appropriate but volume is so low. I tried it all. Different channels, movies, news, sports, stereo, surround, pass through, pcm, auto, reset, pair, unpair, bass level, low, mid, high, tv, dieect tv & soundbar settings. Nothing changes the weak volume level even when i turn the soundbar to 20 and that is pretty loud to the point you cant watch tv like that. So even at that level the sub is still so weak. Not rattling or vibrating thats for sure. But if i was in the market for a good $100 soundbar no sub then the soundbar fits the price point and use but even that is not much better than my tv. 60" lg uhd 4k led over brick mantle fireplace and my regular tv sounds just as good as this system less any bass i can get out of this sub & some added bass to mid on the soundbar itself. Defective or other reason the hook was easy. I spent more time running wire management then actual hook up. HDMI ARC, power plugs, turned on and my tv auto switched and system was live. Then the troubleahooting began for 2 hours. Every settting, every reset, ever reconnect, every channel and type of show, movie, music and here I am, so deflated. I have always loved JBL. Ease of use but their actual quality of product snd sound. Big miss on this one for $250. I wouldn't take it for free before i would reather pay $100 for just the soundar. The subwoofer is useless. And if i am doing something wrong then even more reasonnthe system is junk, i am not brain dead but no professional sound guy either. Not hard to plug in wires and turn on with the expectation the product will work properly without any special efforts even though i put in 2 hrs of settings, power cylcles, reconnects, resets and so on.

I got this soundbar to pair with my new projector and it’s been a nice complement. The bass is fairly impressive for the price and the basic sound is too. I find that watching Dolby Atmos shows (though the soundbar is DD only) still sounds very good. For some reason, DTS-MA movies don’t sound as good and they’re not as loud. I find myself turning up the volume to near max levels for DTS-MA shows. But overall, this soundbar can make your space sound a lot bigger than it really is. It can’t compete with a fully fledged sound system but on a budget and in a smaller area, you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised. You do get the movie experience.Don’t let the home theater audiophile snobs prevent you from experiencing a soundbar. At this point I can review the sound quality (good) cannot say how long it will last as I have only had it for 1 month. For the price point and it being a sound bar this unit provides good quality sound and decent bass for being a 6.5 inch woofer. I was surprised at the overall clean sound. I have it connected to the TV using the fiber optic line.I needed a basic sound bar without all of the connect to this, that, and the other thing. I don’t need to talk to it and have it respond. I was just looking for something that sounds better than the TV speakers and this unit does it. I tested the Bluetooth once and it connects. I am not sure what they expected from a $250 sound bar….7.2 home theater sound..?? Yeah that’s comparing apples to oranges. People need to be realistic.
It was difficult to give this sound bar only a 4 star review, because overall I am quite happy with it, but please allow me to explain. This is the first sound bar that I have ever owned for a Television, so I have nothing else to compare it to, however, I chose this JBL because I read COUNTLESS 5/5 Star reviews online about how it is one of the best tuned sound bars in existence, many people even comparing it to BOSE sound bars stating that the JBL is better.Perhaps the reviews I read had just overhyped the product for me, I am not sure, but here is my short Pros & Cons list for the JBL 2.1 Sound Bar:PROS- VERY Easy / Simple Setup and Remote Controls (literally plug and play, absolutely no thinking required)- Powerful Sound, great for Music listening, ... MoreIt was difficult to give this sound bar only a 4 star review, because overall I am quite happy with it, but please allow me to explain. This is the first sound bar that I have ever owned for a Television, so I have nothing else to compare it to, however, I chose this JBL because I read COUNTLESS 5/5 Star reviews online about how it is one of the best tuned sound bars in existence, many people even comparing it to BOSE sound bars stating that the JBL is better.Perhaps the reviews I read had just overhyped the product for me, I am not sure, but here is my short Pros & Cons list for the JBL 2.1 Sound Bar:PROS- VERY Easy / Simple Setup and Remote Controls (literally plug and play, absolutely no thinking required)- Powerful Sound, great for Music listening, decent Bass control settings.- Looks nice, asthetically pleasing.CONS- Bar is a little too "Tall" and it blocks the TV's remote control signal receiver, so now we have to actually raise the remote control for the TV quite a bit higher than comfortable in order to use the TV.- Sound "Tuning" is a little strange, even with the "Bass" control settings. Certain sounds are SIGNIFICANTLY louder than they should be, for example, a whistle might be ear piercingly loud while everything else is normal volume, or dinosaur footsteps might shake too much when everything else seems rather well equalized. Other reviews have claimed that the frequencies of this sound bar are "perfectly tuned for all types of watching, gaming, or music listening" and I would honestly have to disagree, I believe having the option to tune it better yourself would benefit the product quite a bit actually.
Im so frustrated with this soundbar. The sub just Sounds horrid at low volume. I'm 90% sure it has a digital crossover or something that is calibrated horribly. The sub has a really jerky crackely on off that is aweful, especiallyat low volume. Beyond that that the crossover is just so bad, way to many mid level frequencys come out of the sub. Im not sure if mine is malfunctioning but its really distracting. I only know the basics about sound and speaker design, and if an amateur can here this I'm not sure how the design was ever approved. The best part about the soundbar is the display, which is clear and works great with the remote. Its honestly the only thing making me debate a return. Needed just a nice simple, good quality sound bar so the kids could watch TV and on the odd occasion, watch a movie when time permits.Watched one movie with the kids and I packed it up to return. The sound quality from the TV speakers was better (albeit missing and form of low range). There is a complete lack of any high end/treble from the sound bar, it's just all mid range and there is no way of adjusting it at all. It was so frustrating to listen to people speaking in the movie.I'm not expecting home theatre quality at all, especially at this price range and not sure all people would notice, but it just drove me nuts Instantly.
Purchased this soundbar when I purchased a new tv. The sound is very good and the woofer is so prominent I moved it further away. I prefer the bass at its lowest setting, but if you want more of a booming bass that’ll rattle your walls a little, you can achieve that. Since the woofer is totally wireless - just need a nearby plug - it is very convenient. One little quirk I’ve found is that, at least for me, the sound goes out of sync with peoples lips at least once per day and I need to reset it. The resetting is simple, but I find it a slight annoyance, hence the 4 stars. If I was able to give it 4 1/2, I would’ve.
I am nothing but happy with this purchase. I was considering a different brand, and the salesperson turned on this unit. It was like night and day, and the sun was shining bright. To be fair, we have a pretty small house, so this unit isn't trying to fill a theatre room, but the sound is profound gives that theatre feel. The highs are high without being brittle, the mids are strong, and the bass is substantial without breaking. So far, the dialogue in everything we have watched, whether streaming or on disc, has been clear and present. Again, I am very happy with this purchase.
