Really crisp, rich sound, and plenty of bass. For soundstage, this is where things get interesting. Compared to the higher end bar with no rear speakers, the immersive, surrounding sound of the Bar 500 really grabs you. Now, comparing it to my home theater, and even the lower end soundbar with rear satellites, I DO notice the lack of actual speakers behind and above me. It seems to be that the engineers are able to bounce those rear and height sounds where they need to go, BUT, since they are bouncing there, you notice them in more spatial locations then JUST above or behind you. So the sounds ARE above and behind you, but also everywhere else a bit, too. To summarize: Uh-mazing for a soundbar with no satellites, but you just can't compare to real, physical speakers. An area where the Bar500 really shines is the setup, ease of use features, and the app. Power it on and it will boot up, find and connect the sub and then auto sense the TV and any inputs. The remote is intuitive and feels great. I installed the JBL One app which sound the unit immediately, asked for my wifi password, and then updated itself. After that I could calibrate the sound, use the equalizer, change settings, or manage built in streaming services. Everything was very slick and well done. One thing I hope JBL will change with an update is this: when the bar senses a new sound stream, it will let you know on the display. Unfortunately, I only ever saw it say: Multi channel signal, rather than a specific description such as Dolby Atmos, DTS, Dolby Digital, etc. If it doesn't recognize the signal, such as when I tried to send it a direct PCM stream, or just displays Unsupported Format. At the very least, if you could get more detailed info on the app, that would be nice.To summarize, if you want to add amazing sound (with real surround sound) with just a soundbar and sub, and you want great streaming features and plug and play setup, this is for you. However, if you are looking for this soundbar package to replace or rival a full home theater system, it won't. Frankly, I don't think a soundbar without satellites can. But if your setup doesn't allow for rear speakers, or you don't want to deal with them, this is the next best thing.

For a while if I hit the HDMI button on the remote it would recycle and work again. But finally it gave up the ghost completely and I cannot get it to work at all. And when it stops working so does my TV. I had to dig through 4 pages of reviews before I finally got to see that many other buyers have had similar problems. You see Best Buy lists the positive results ahead of the negative ones. They should stop doing this and list all reviews in the order that they are received like other sites do (i.e. Amazon). Defective is the right word because JBL must be aware that some of their soundbars work while others do not. They refuse to address the problem because they have decided that it is more cost effective to just let it go. They sell a lot of them and it's just too bad for the poor souls like me who get a bad one. So as I said when it worked the sound was terrific but ask yourself if you want to take the chance on getting a good one when there are other brands out there that are not defective? I will be returning mine but since I stupidly trashed the box I will have to pay UPS to re-box it as well as stand in line for an hour at the UPS store. Thanks JBL!!

When listening to Atmos content I could hear the sound coming from all around the room, not just from the front like with the old soundbar. Speaking of the setup, I had a bit of a problem connecting the Bar 500 to wifi and complete the setup using the JBL One app, after restarting the router and selecting a different network the Bar 500 went through an update process that took about 10 minutes. I like how simple the JBL One is since it lets me use a digital remote and manage some EQ settings for better sound. The digital remote is a big deal since is have 2 kids that like grabbing the remotes around the house, I hid the original remote in a safe place and I'm only using the remote on the app now. The remote comes with different buttons to control each input and also the Bass Level, level 4 is the sweet spot for me. Speaking of the Bass, the subwoofer looks very sleek and fits well with the furniture in the living room. When it comes to inputs the Bar 500 will only have one HDMI input, I use it for my streaming device. The TV output goes directly to the TV and I'm able to get 4k signal through the Bar 500. I also have 3 gaming systems connected to the TV and use the Digital input for the Audio. The only weird thing is that I have to unplug the HDMI input cable from the Bar 500 in order to get audio using the TV/Digital input. Most of the time the streaming device is playing something on the TV so it's not that big of a deal to unplug the HDMI when it is time for a gaming session. The Bar 500 is loud most of the time the audio is set to 10-13. My family is very happy with this new JBL Bar 500, movies, music and games have never sounded this good.

[Rewarded Review] Great Atmos soundbar

I wanted an Atmos sound system for my new Oled TV, but I didn't want a 5.1 or 7.1 system. I used to have a normal 2.1 LG soundbar that cost me around $150. It was fine, nothing spectacular, but far better than flat screen TV sound. I was amazed at the quality of sound from this setup. The subwoofer is gigantic compared to the average 2.1 system and produces HUGE amounts of bass, even when the bass is only at 2 or 3 out of a max of 5. Video games and movies sound great!!! The Atmos technology gives a new layer of sound that was missing from my non Atmos system I had before (when Atmos is available, some content just uses surround or dolby... it all sounds good, though.) The Atmos technology gives a new layer of sound that was missing from my non Atmos system I had before (when Atmos is available, some content just uses surround or dolby... it all sounds good, though.) The Atmos sound does give you a more immersive sound experience, where sound honestly does sound like it's coming from different areas of your room. But since it's just a 2.1 system, the sound you hear is never really going to sound like it's coming from behind you, but the sound you hear during some movies or nature shows sounds like they are coming from different areas infront of you. There have been times while watching TV, where I had to mute the sound, because I thought that what I was hearing was my dog upstairs or my cat messing around in the next room over, but it was actually just the sounds from the movie/show I was watching. They were being projected so well that I thought the sounds were coming from the walls of my house!!! I never experienced sound like that from any speakers I've ever used. Also, the bass is no joke. It's honestly like having movie theatre level bass in your home. So if you live in an apartment or multi family dwelling, and you're not careful, you may get sound complaints because it literally shakes the walls. So if you want quality sound that immerses you in movies and your favorite shows and you don't need to have speakers all over place, this soundbar won't disappoint you. And it's a huge step up from the ordinary, $200, 2.1 soundbar systems you may have bought in the past.

Great sound bar, looks sleek, easy to set up. Sounds quality, for a sound bar, is fantastic. Yes a proper receiver and full surround system will be better but for a low profile solution to stick in a room that gets a lot of traffic this still sounds very good. Volume buttons integrated with my Google TV remote just fine. Also, i really like that the app didn't require me to make another account. It's an option, of course, but you can also just use it locally without logging in at all. You can even activate the casting features without a login (obviously you'll need a login for whichever cast service you use). This might not effect sound quality but it's such a welcome rarity in products these days I felt the need to give JBL huge kudos on that one and it'll keep ... MoreGreat sound bar, looks sleek, easy to set up. It's an option, of course, but you can also just use it locally without logging in at all. You can even activate the casting features without a login (obviously you'll need a login for whichever cast service you use). This might not effect sound quality but it's such a welcome rarity in products these days I felt the need to give JBL huge kudos on that one and it'll keep them at the top of my list for connected audio in the future. At sick of needing a new account for every product.

[Rewarded Review] JBL Sound BAR!!!
12 February 2024

I've never been a fan of sound bar systems. I always thought they were the biggest waste of money, and that you should go big or go home with towers and subs. Until the day I walked into my local best buy with ZERO intent to buy anything, and heard this unit from the front door. I kid you not, for a sound bar system it for sure will rock a small-medium sized room. I have mine in a 13.5'x22' living room and it beautifully fills the entire room with sound. The sub it comes with doesn't compare to a klipsch R12, but isn't too far behind!! I have to have bass in my systems, or I am not happy. For the main speaker.... The sound quality is 100% there. It makes movies sound like there are speakers 360 around you, lol it definitely confused me the first couple times i ... MoreI've never been a fan of sound bar systems. [Rewarded Review] Super easy to set up. Sounds great with basic 5.1
17 May 2024

Purchased this when it was on sale. The set up process was pretty easy. It has an app where you can fine tune how you want it to sound. You can use the speaker independently of the tv. So you can stream Bluetooth or Spotify directly to it without turning on the tv. This is a 5.1 surround sound bar. Up close you can definitely notice the surround sound. But once you move about 10 feet back it becomes hard to notice that the sound is coming from different directions. Because it’s all in one bar, you can’t space out the side speakers like a proper 5.1 system. The subwoofer is really good and it does a good job only sending the lower frequencies to the woofer and keeping the voices in the soundbar. The subwoofer is wireless, just needs power. The soundbar works with digital optical or hdmi arc. It also comes with mounts if you want to mount this on the wall. It’s a great bar for normal set ups. And an entry level 5.1 system.
