that is waterproof (I tested it with a hose, it is 100%) and with a 20+ hour battery life (depending on volume level) is more than I could ask for. I've played it for a total of 8

I was skeptical at first about how much of an improvement this would be compared to my JBL Xtremes (1 & 2) but let me say, it's a phenomenal improvement in every department and well worth the money. My only gripe is that I wish it had an official strap as the weight is definitely not too heavy for most shoulders. There's a bonus outdoor/indoor mode switch that's basically a built in EQ adjustment to boost bass and volume in exchange for dynamics and clarity but Indoor mode honestly sounds better everywhere. I have yet to find a situation so loud and crowded I feel obligated to switch to Outdoor mode but it's nice to know there's that backup boost. One of my first major outdoor speakers was the ION Blockrocker and people were always wanting me to turn it up when it had no more volume to give and distorted after 90%. The JBL Boombox hits the same db at 30% volume with ZERO distortion at the max. It's the bluetooth speaker dream for those who want one that WILL deliver outdoors for sure. Also makes for a fantastic indoor soundbar for movie night.... Show more

It won't connect to anything older than a Flip 4 which kind of sucks if you love your Flip 3 that you've had forever. JBL makes their gear to last so I'm not sure why they would assume the Flip 3 would be obsolete by the time this boombox came out. Second, for such a well designed speaker in terms of sound quality, bluetooth is not exactly a high quality form of music 100% of the time. Nothing against the product (I love it) but don't expect record player quality on every song or device through bluetooth technology. Overall, the pros massively outweigh the cons. Highly recommend this speaker to anyone that loves loud high quality sound.... Show more

In other words the speakers lose more than 20% of their power and loudness, spending energy for synchronizing between of them. This means that using two Jbl extreme 2, wouldn't surpass Jbl Boombox in terms of loudness, because they lose 20% of their loudness. However Jbl Boombox can compete 2 Jbl extreme 2 and it seems they have equal loudness. This is not mentioned anywhere, but it is my long experience in Jbl speakers, as a professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Renewable energy sources.... Show more

This speaker is used more often than my home theater 400w subwoofer + satellite speaker system. The sound is so legit that I see no use to increase my home power watt usage just to listen to music. The BASS is what is so killer along with the HIGH RANGE TREBLE. I mean the BASS is what is really so phenomenal about this speaker, period. The passive radiators on both sides move in and out when sub sonic bass notes hit and the low end sounds it makes is just incredible for its size!So music/sound is really subjective and how do you really rate speakers in general? I do not use high end acoustic measuring tools to define how good speakers are, i leave that to technical pros who measure all frequency curves, etc. I do not bother with that but I will say this speaker just plays JAZZ, and rock music very, very, very well. I don't think it's even bad for POP music but for anything like smooth jazz, it just sounds A+! Although there is no EQ adjustments on the unit, you can simply use your app to adjust more bass/treble (from google home app) - this is not a good idea from purists/audiophile's perspective, however. They prefer flat EQ/no EQ. But since you can't adjust anything you really don't need to for this thing is really balanced well out of the box!The battery life on this thing lasts a long time - i got it around 13+ hours (at about 35% volume) and the best part is that it includes two USB ports for charging devices (no data) - and i hooked up a chromecast audio (via 3.5mm to the 3.5mm input on the JBL) so i can wifi transmit music from google easily. No need for built in but I'd rather have it built in. The bluetooth range is nice it works between walls 3 walls but I don't use bluetooth primarily when it is at home. Charging the unit takes a long while about 7-8 hours I got from being LOW. There are 5 LEDs to indicate battery capacity and it's located on the front bottom and is in white and very visible - EVEN when being AC powered. Doesn't bother me on bit, however. It is plugged into the wall for power 99% of the time, however. I will say there to me I don't notice a difference in performance when running off battery, however. Maybe slight loudness drop at max volume and speaking of max volume, this thing is LOUD. I will say it can blasts a huge room easily with music and distort ever so slightly based on the type of music you are playing but at max volume it's so loud your ears are gonna hurt first in a smaller room before you leave it at max levels. I have not played this thing outside so I can't comment on that. I'm very sure this will be heard half a mile away outside no doubt! You can hook up TWO of these speakers for a STEREO configuration via the JBL connect+ app! You can even link up to a crazy 100+ speaker combination (not stereo) to have multiple speakers play together via the JBL connect+ system. The speaker is IP67 rated so it can handle humidity/even being dunked in water (I did not do this myself but watched Jim's review room on youtube do this). I don't need that feature but it's a bonus! The speaker is just so good with the balance of high/mids/low especially the low end; it thumps hard when the right low notes get played. If you are questioning how good the bass is, trust me and buy this speaker and play your bass test track on it and you will be astonished to how good it is and you forget it is a PORTABLE SPEAKER! The size isn't too big and heavy either and the handle bar is perfect for transporting. So if you are in the market for a speaker that you can take with you and plug in power if you require more power, along with the best sound you cannot miss out on this JBL Boombox. I mean I didn't even get a chance to hear it in the best buy store because the demo unit was not working but after youtube reviewers claim it's so good, i gave it a chance and i'm telling you this speaker is the best bluetooth speaker bar none!I tried the overhyped Marshall speakers and I'm TRULY disappointed. the treble performance is there but the mids/low notes are lacking so badly. The stanmore II was nice build but man the performance is not in the same league as this JBL boombox!!Even the smaller JBL Extreme 2 sounded so much better than the Marshall's!So now here are the cons for me personally:* Looks - it doesn't look like a high end performing speaker - in fact it's quite ugly design; but having black unit it doesn't stand out in my black bookshelf so that's good.* The battery isn't full user replaceable but with it being able to be powered by AC I can't be too unhappy. Most likely due to the IP67 rating the unit is glued all together. And I don't think I've seen JBL directly sell a battery replacement. Perhaps you can find on ebay/3rd party if needed* I don't have a problem with weight but it isn't all that light for weak muscle men/women. This isn't a con but I wish they had some grille mesh to protect the side passive bass radiators in case of transporting you puncture those by accident!* No built in integration but has 3.5mm aux port. I wish it had alexa or google assistant built in. But I am using chromecast audio via 3.5mm so I can get wifi streaming easily anyway. IT does have some sort of voice integration but you have to push button on unit manually.* AC power brick is a bit bulky; wish it was integrated inside unit but then may add to even heavier weight of unit.* lastly the PRICE - I paid nearly $400 out the door on sale including taxes. So this is not a cheap bluetooth speaker. BUT given the sound quality/performance, this is the best $400 spent! So if you have the money to spend and want a portable+home speaker that can play music genres of all kinds and give you such great low notes and balanced mids/highs, look no further this speaker is really living up to the hype! I didn't even get a real listening test at the store but at home I realized I made the RIGHT decision and i'm so happy with this unit I may get a another one for STEREO configuration for even better stereo separation when/if it goes on sale again! This speaker gets a 5-star rating and not even that expensive onyx studio 4 or 5 can compare! This speaker is the BEST portable speaker bar none. JBL even has a larger one called the PARTY BOX! But that thing is a monster and for me this JBL Boombox is the best choice.PS - The JBL Boombox has option for TWO BLUETOOTH CONNECTIONS SIMULATANEOUSLY. You can BT connect from two separate devices and both can play music in turn.... Show more

Ahhhhh what to say about this awesome piece of kit... For starters excuse my french in the following text. You must know that before buying this speaker i have never bought a bluetooth speaker in my life and since i am a go big or go home guy i said i wanted to buy the biggest baddest wireless bluetooth speaker on the planet. So this is how i made my choice: so at first i really wanted a Bose soundtouch 30 it blew my mind then i started equiping my home with google home and said maybe i should get the google home max considering google said they would produce the most powerful speaker they ever could and it is powerful and and so is the soundtouch 30 and i am guessing some of you out there might even look for the JBL extreme. So i decided i would do a comparison with all 3 competitors they all came around the 90 decibel range and are pretty amazing with the soundtouch having more mid and peak treble the google max had the best balance of bass mids and highs while the Boombox has a good balance of all three but its differet in its way amd defenetly wins bassewise. With that being said lets look at their shared caracteristics of the max and soundtouch they both plug in the wall have no external battery source and etc. PROS: -only speaker of its kind that has a built in 20000 Mamp battery. -It is really loud outside and inside plus it has a outside and inside mode button. -Has 2 USB ports so you can charge 2 phones from its own independent battery -Aux port -Has the JBL connect app if you want to connect all your JBL speakers. -Is IPX7 waterproof and i can confirm that . Cons: Maybe a little pricey but in the end it is worth it because there is just no other speaker of its kind even blowa the extreme out of the water you will not be dissapointed.... Show more

It looks simple but at the same time stylish, let me put it that way.Soundwise: In my opinion, the Base on this thing is its main selling point(mostly the reason why i bought it in the first place even though i have 2 Xtremes), the jump from 70hz to 50hz in freq response is more noticeable than i thought, don't get me wrong, the Xtreme sounds very good for its size, but with the Boombox it a huge difference, and here i'm referring especially on its capability of reproducing deep\low base. I've spent many hours going from playlist to playlist just to hear the difference and i can almost say that i was listening to totally different songs than before. All i can say is that its a pleasure listening to this speaker and although its on the expensive side, personally, from what i saw and experienced, i have the reassurance that the price that i pay justifies the product - you pay for quality, not for marketing.(this way i'd like to thank my brother for recommending me this brand as i first heard of it from him; from what i know, he knows JBL from many years ago, he saw some big speakers in a club called Red&Black or something like that, was quite impressed by them :) ).Now, the only thing that while it does bother me, i can live with it - is the fact that if i want to listen to music, watch movies or play games on low volume, i can hear a noticeable white noise\hiss from it, sometimes it cuts the sound off on the more silent moments(whispering, silent game effects, etc) until the more noticeable sound effects kick in. If i increase the volume it goes away(or it gets covered by the loudness of the sound) and all is fine. I don't consider this as a big issue as i'm thinking that this speaker was designed mainly for party and medium to loud listening, but nonetheless it is still something that i cannot ignore either. I have tested this both on Bluetooth and on AUX Cable and the results are the same, phone and PC, as for volume levels, i've tested in both scenarios where the speaker was at 100% - the phone\PC was at one or two notches of volume and vice versa. All in all, i would definitely recommend this to anyone who is thinking or not sure if to buy one of these or not (Christmas is near anyways, so why not make yourself a "little" present? i dare you to re-read my review after you get one and see if you felt the same as i did *evil smile* ).In the end, as a small tip, its recommended to first discharge\use the Boombox as much as you can until its almost out of juice and then plug it in for charging (this goes for other speakers as well). Don't recharge it randomly, it will help having a longer lasting battery life (thanks customer service for this information and for the fast reply).... Show more

Product Defect
8 March 2021
I have owned two JBL Boombox's - both have given me the same problem within a year. The JBL will not power on unless it is plugged into the wall. Once powered on you can unplug it and take it any where but it is very inconvenient. I did not purchase it to rely on a power outlet to turn it on and therefore I do not use it much now. Also, the second speaker I have is because of the warranty on the first speaker. I am guessing since 2/2 speakers have had the same issue this is a product defect. However, they will not give me a new speaker even though the speaker they provided me with has been in my possession less than a year. I think it is a bit ridiculous and they know there is a product defect. I love JBL sound quality but will not be buying any more JBL products ... MoreI have owned two JBL Boombox's - both have given me the same problem within a year. So Cool

Did I need this? No. Do I love it? Yes.Battery lasts forever, super durable, absolutely bumps. I rarely play it past half volume because of how loud these actually get. I took this to a tailgate recently and put it on outdoor mode & the bass was even better. I really can’t overstate how good these sound. The JBL link feature is awesome too. I am trying to convince my buddy to buy 8 of these for his wedding and give them to us groomsmen as gifts afterwards.Considerations : it’s big & fairly heavy so it’s not the most portable. That said because of the durability it’s so much more capable as beach speaker, boat speaker, tailgate speaker, etc. than your standard Bluetooth speaker.... Show more

I think these sound very good when you have two to use with the JBL app on a phone in stereo mode...especially with a limiter/compressor setup like radio stations use on a computer...to encode your tunes to MP3 format to use with these speakers via your phone. The newest generation JBL speakers are not compatible with JBL Connect+ models as the newest ones use PartyBoost. These are waterproof to boot, but if you use them on the beach or near chlorine, be sure to rinse with tap water to keep the speaker in good shape, otherwise it will wear out the speaker surrounds and boombox seals and gaskets!...
