I really like how JBL upped the functionality of this smaller speaker. Previous small speakers wouldn't have extra functions like skip ahead a song, or back a song. This one does. Previous speakers would basically just have play/pause and volume. It's nice to have that if you would use this as like a shower speaker or something and don't want your phone in with you. It is rated as water proof to a degree, 30 minutes at a meter, so a shower is fine. It has a nice heavy feel and you can tell with the sound, suprisingly loud and good bass sound. I also like that you can now pair it to other speakers in it's class, creating a stereo sound. I might have to get another one to make use of that option. Really sharp look. The clip is heavy duty enough that I'm not worried about it breaking or not holding up. There's a JBL Portable app for controlling the sound EQ which is nice. They have a "playtime boost" mode where it's louder, and also saves battery which it does at the expense of the EQ sound. So that mode sounds a little tinny, but it's definitely louder and would maybe be good for podcast listening or audio books where you want a little more volume. The back has padded grips so you can set it on it's back and it won't wreck the finish or anything like that.

The Clip 5 is easy and comfortable to hold and carry and is well-manufactured. The three buttons on the front are completely sufficient for using it, though take a bit getting used to. The JBL Clip 5 can also be clipped to your backpack, purse or other random object. Unfortunately, the clip hook was still too small for a few places where I thought of affixing it. This is really a pleasure for playing good music. However: There also is a lot of distortion and unpleasantness in the sound as soon as one crosses the 50 % audio volume barrier. This dampens the joy a bit - however 50% volume is enough for most songs and for small rooms or cozy outdoor gatherings on a picknik blanket. My personal impression also was that the equalizer settings suggested by JBL help with audio quality. As those are only visible through the app, I wouldn't necessarily bother with that though.Aside from the equalizer and the exact battery status indicator, I found no real use for the "JBL Portable" app.Battery life of the JBL Clip 5 is phenomenal in my opinion, i.e. very much sufficient for using it on an extended weekend trip or a vacation, without even necessarily needing to charge it.All in all, I did and plan to get a lot of use out of the JBL Clip 5 and can thus whole-heartedly recommend it for anyone in need of a small, casual mobile bluetooth speaker.

We have been a fan of JBL's small speaker line up since our purchase of the JBL Micro Wireless. Beach, pool, biking, chiliin, travel , and in shower singing, (Door closed, water running, of course), these tiny monsters are constant companions. After 12 plus hours of break in, it was time to take the newest monster for a test spin. What? Turned it on and walked into another room and I had to stop and listen. The Clip sounded official. With the app set for JBL signature, fidelity is what struck me the most regardless of the music genre I threw at it. Don't get me wrong. This is not a super duper audiophile device but for the size and the volume that the Clip 5 produced it drew me in and had my ears dancing. As the old commercial use to say, "you've come a long way baby."The cleaver clip makes this super portable and the reliability of the wireless connection is outstanding! BTW I hooked up two separate sources with ease. Switching back and fourth is no longer a headache.JBL is one manufacture that with their secret sauce keeps innovating and releasing products that increases the enjoyment of anything audio. What's next? Can't wait!!!!
Sorry for the pun in the title! This speaker is what was missing in my collection of bluetooth speakers. My default speaker is Charge 5, which is the perfect balance of sound quality, size, and weight for most applications at home or near a car.But when traveling, especially hiking or even just taking a flight somewhere, Charge becomes too cumbersome. Sure, it's nice to set it up at a hotel and jam to it during evenings or before heading out. But the weight and size of it are prohibitive for traveling, especially during hiking etc.So Clip 5 is actually very useful for these two things: traveling and hiking. Sure, it's nice to set it up at a hotel and jam to it during evenings or before heading out. But the weight and size of it are prohibitive for traveling, especially during hiking etc.So Clip 5 is actually very useful for these two things: traveling and hiking. It is very light, very small, and clips anywhere. So even if your backpack is packed tightly, you can always hang it on the outside, as visible in the pictures below. They say that the best tool is not the one that performs the best, but the one you are most likely to use. In case of Clip 5, I just end up taking it with me because it's so light and compact. The only reason it's not a perfect speaker is the same reason it's so easy to carry with you: its size and weight. The small volume of the speaker makes it very difficult to reproduce faithful bass, from an engineering point of view. Somehow, though, JBL engineers managed to make it sound bassy even being this tiny! The bass is not true to life, but it's enough. It's enough to indicate where the bass would've been in the music if it was a bigger speaker. You can tell that Clip 5 is pushing physics to its limits by how much the speaker vibrates during the lowest bass it can reproduce. Here's a tip for Clip 5 owners: put it in a corner to make bass sound almost true. It can be a corner between a shelf or table top and the wall, or a literal corner. The best results are when you place this tiny speaker on a kitchen counter in the corner. Then the bass comes to life fully, surprising everyone.Battery lasts a decent time, feels close to what's advertised. USB-C chargers are ubiquitous nowadays, so not including one is a smart move by JBL: reduced electronic waste and lower costs! The clip itself is made of metal, presumably aluminum. The gate also feels like metal, but covered in rubber. The cool thing is that the gate can be fully depressed into the slot on the speaker body, which makes the opening rather large. This makes it easier to clip and unclip it from various places.Overall, I am loving this speaker for what it is. I'll keep taking it wherever Charge 5 feels cumbersome, and whenever the bass won't seem enough, I'll just put it in the corner.
As a project manager working both from the home and at the office, I needed a blue tooth speaker that was both compact and portable. But, I also needed it to be compact enough to fit into a messenger bag pocket without crowding my electronic devices. The Clip 5 not only suits that purpose but also as shown in this image takes up absolutely no space on my desk in my home office by securely clipping onto the desk lamp. At the office it clips conveniently onto an adjustable monitor arm, inconspicuously serving as the computer speaker that really isn’t.The build quality is outstanding for being a Bluetooth speaker unabashedly minimalist in its aesthetics. At the office it clips conveniently onto an adjustable monitor arm, inconspicuously serving as the computer speaker that really isn’t.The build quality is outstanding for being a Bluetooth speaker unabashedly minimalist in its aesthetics. The iconic carabiner appendage ie the “clip” that is practically synonymous with the JBL Clip series befits the rugged overall feel and functionality of the Clip 5. Especially given its IP67 water and dust resistance along with its beefy control buttons, it would be perfectly sufficient attached to my camelbak on deep hikes as it would attached to my work stand in the garage. After giving it a few hours to break in the sound took me by surprise with its distinctly spacious presence that left me wondering if the conventional multi-speaker desktop audio arrangement is now rendered antiquated. And while its simplicity would seem almost one-dimensional, this turned out be strictly as a result of many of its appealing features of versatility and flexibility being available through the JBL portable device app. Through the app I was able to dial in the EQ and power consumption settings for my listening and usage preferences. Speaking of connectivity the Bluetooth 5.3 synchs up with all my devices effortlessly and without difficulties maintaining the connection. With the USB-C charging port and 12 hours of battery life to which I can personally attest, this has been a productivity-enhancing sweet spot combination of listening enjoyment and portability.
Before even opening the box the first thing that came to mind was that this was heavier than expected. The design and controls are simple but elegant as far as portable Bluetooth speakers go, This device utilizes USB-C charging and the control buttons are large and easy to navigate. The Clip5 was easily paired up and immediately got attached to my back pack for the following days hike. The battery life was still way over half after 6 hours of use listening to a streaming service at a respectable volume. I found for my taste the best volume level was no higher that 70%. To me that sounded the best. At max volume the different sound levels are a wash and it not enjoyable. The device is pairable to other JBL devices that are compatible with that feature to create a group. Also you can use the JBL portable app to use any of the preset equalizers configs or even create your own custom EQ for your listening taste. The Clip itself is strong and study. The buttons on the front and side feel good. The texture of the exterior feels like quality. The back has grip texture so it doesn't slide on inclined surfaces. The only negatives I can find on this device is lack of ability to stand the device up or at the least on its side. But placing the device on its back still fills my little office well enough to be enjoyable. Overall its a great value!
I was provided this to test and really enjoyed using it. I didn’t expect so much sound from such a small speaker! The battery life is excellent, I haven’t had to charge it in days, and I’ve definitely given the water proof rating a run for its money and it’s survived my attempts to prove it wrong,Things you want to know:• Easy to connect Bluetooth, one button to press and it’s up and running. You don’t need to disconnect the Bluetooth on phones already connected to it before connecting another (something that has always frustrated me with other speakers).• battery life is long, and charging is quick.• can get very loud so useful for camping outdoors, though I deducted a star because the bass can get a bit of a reverb once you turn the volume up. Yes I am. I really didn’t expect the quality to be that good.
What a fun, easy to travel, powerful sounding little speaker. The carabiner clip opens easily and closes securely. It fits easily on a backpack, purse, or pant loop. The speaker is light, probably about 1 pounds. Inside the box you will find the speaker and charging cord. Bluetooth pairing works easily, button on the side, volume, pause, play on the front of speaker. There is also a multi-speaker button to connect multiple speakers. I have used it most often in the garage while working out attached to my bag. The speaker provides great sound quality that is balanced. I think it lives up to the 12 hour battery life in between charges. I have taken it in walks with a friend - attached to my fanny pack. I like that I can control the volume easily. Wow! The first word that comes to mind when I cracked open the new JBL Clip 5 from Harman. How can all that sound come from such a small package?!? Let me explain...The new and revised Clip 5 offering from JBL offers many upgrades from previous models including better battery life, connectivity, and a larger/durable 'clip' (carabiner) opening to accommodate more areas in which to use this roughly 6x4x2 inch speaker! The sound is potent with punchy bass emitting from a frequency range of 95hz-20Khz. The sound is nothing short of astounding but also lives up the the JBL reputation of bigger isn't always better. The cable is short but does the trick and you must supply a wall USB-A compatible charging block yourself. The speaker is able to be connected to other JBL Portable devices thru AuraCast and the JBL app for a complete party on the go.. whether you're fishing, swimming, beaching, off-roading, partying, or just relaxing.. it just works! I did have trouble when first trying to connect the speaker to the JBL Portable App but soon discovered a quick update of the App fixed all connectivity issues. The Clip 5 does come in a variety of colors but whatever the color... this thing just ROCKS! The main use I have for the speaker is in my shower. My mornings are started with a bang from this potent little monster! Well worth every penny just as other JBL speakers I have in my collection. The JBL/Harman name is simply synonymous with quality sound and craftsmanship!
