Bad sound quality with ANC. Not very good over BT.

The first impression I've got from this headphones, when unpacking, was “OK, for the price”. I find them quite comfortable for an “on ear” design. The band keeps the phones very tight, but I think that’s how it must be for such a design to be efficient. The ear pads and the band cushion are, in my opinion, very comfortable. The choice of the ear cups shell material, however, didn't convince me... It's a kind of plastic that makes a lot of noise at the slightest touch and, to me, seems very inappropriate to build ear cups (it even makes noise just moving ones head or walking!). I guess it was probably selected to save some money, but I doubt there are no better choices costing more or less the same. The real problem, however, came after turning on the headphones. ... MoreThe first impression I've got from this headphones, when unpacking, was “OK, for the price”. I guess it was probably selected to save some money, but I doubt there are no better choices costing more or less the same. The real problem, however, came after turning on the headphones. They produce a very audible “hiss”, sounding a bit like white noise, that I find very disturbing. Every track with a bit more of bass produces very unpleasant distortion, even played at low levels. The sound is very “thin”, sounding a bit like some cheap headphones with small drivers. So this headphones fail where it would be more important not to fail: sound quality. I even wondered if I've received a faulty product but I've found lots of users with similar complaints so I guess they are all like this...Then I've turned off ANC (Active Noise Cancelling) and things got better. No more bass distortion, no more “hiss”. They still sound a bit “thin”, a bit like headphones with small drivers, but they are more acceptable. I still think they should sound better, considering the cost, but, without ANC, they're not horrible, they just don't meet my expectations (that where not that high, I wasn't expecting audiophile level at this price point).Of course these headphones have no “fancy” Bluetooth protocols (no aptX or anything like that) but that's OK for the price, and there are a few headphones with just plain SBC that sound quite good. Anyhow my next test was using the headphones with cable instead of BT. The headphones came with a (very short and not coiled) cable with a 3,5 mm TRRS jack on one side (for connection, for example, to a smart-phone) and what seems to be a 2,5 mm TRS (stereo?!!! no Mic?) jack for connection to the headphones. There is no lock for the jack on the headphones side but, contrary to some other users, I've had absolutely no contact problems and, at least for now, the small jack locks perfectly in place. The sound with cable was a very pleasant surprise! They still sound like having smaller drivers, and the shells still create noise at the slightest user movement, but the sound is clear and enjoyable. However turning ANC on creates the same kind of problems as when used with BT, noise and a very strange equalization (why on earth does ANC changes the equalization is something I don't understand) leading to distorted bass. So these headphones are quite pleasing if one doesn't use the internal amplifier at all, but my wife needed some BT headphones, not some wired headphones...I guess JBL tried to compete in the low price category but in doing so cut costs so much that it ended delivering a product even worse than many “no brand” ones of similar or even lower price. It’s the first time I've bought a JBL (or any other Harman) product that I feel to have a really bad cost/performance ratio. Even the lacking “Quick Start Guide” and small cables (the USB charging cable measures 21 cm end to end, even considering the plugs! And, by the way, has a very fancy reversible USB type A plug, something I've never seen before, but with this short length I never use it) feel like a product where “cheap” was taken to extreme measures!I've not tried the microphone so I have no idea if it works well or not.I'm keeping the headphones, my wife really needs some light BT headphones and they don't seem to be faulty, I guess they're just bad... But I don't recommend this headphones at all!

Firstly, these headphones can't be worn for more than 10min without creating so much pressure on your ears to make them hurt for another 30+ min after wearing them. Rendering these headphones 100% useless and un-usable. We have tried and thought maybe after a week or so they may loosen but this is not the case. My wife simply can't use them and she's of small stature and has a smallish head. Which makes me wonder how people with larger heads are coping with these headphones. Secondly, the Bluetooth would have to also be the worst functioning I have come across. It continually drops out and has to be reconnected every 20min or so. I can't tell you how frustrating this has been for my wife and in turn for me. :). The conclusion is that I am seeking a refund for these headphones on the grounds that the Bluetooth is more or less unusable and being a wireless headset, my wife has only been able to use them via the headphone jack cable it comes with making the wireless part unusable. As well as on the grounds that these headphones cause pain when wearing within minutes of putting them on making them furthermore unusable. Please let me know as to the process to make this happen. Especially in the current COVID environment. Thank you!

If you’re looking for not the over top headphones that don’t cost an arm and a leg then this one’s for you. I reckon sound quality good for the price. Nothing flash but does the job. These bijs have lasted me a long time even though I ragdoll and clothes line them all the time. Yeah I’ve noticed that with JBLs sometimes one of the headphones stop working (noticed that it’s always the left one) but nothing a good knock won’t fix. Just punch it a few times and I find it works good everytime. Yeah you get weird looks doing that while in the gym, thinking you look out the gate but who cares. 5/5 bro

Great sound - but poor BT-functionality
12 September 2021

So - I've had my pair for some time now. Sound is great but I'v experienced som malfunction in the BT connection. When streaming Netflix (iPad) they suddenly turn off. No battery warning or else. Just simply turns off. In the last couple of days the started to frequently pause the stream. When using them on my PC (both my old HP aswell as my current DELL) and going on Teams - after a couple of minutes the sound suddenly goes in to some digital distortion, completely impossible to hear the sound in the Teams meeting.Bought another pair of headset - competitor brand - and got the idea to see if the old JBL-ones was possible to fw-update - but no... :/Of course I should have turned to my reseller at once, but frankly, I don't trust that to have done any differ...

Great sounding headphones, not on noise canceling.
27 December 2021

These are easy to setup and sound great but the noise canceling is almost non existent. You hear it come on, and there is a change in the surrounding frequencies that are being allowed to your ear, but it is far from canceling any noise. So know that going into this. They really do sound good. Very balanced, not too bass heavy or high heavy and the mids are natural sounding. The battery is a true 13 hour if not even a little longer. The Bluetooth is supper easy to connect to an iPhone which is all we have used it with. I would recommend these headphones for all aspects, just realize you won’t get much for noise canceling. To be far I am judging what I would expect noise canceling to sound like based off my Bose Quiet Comfort 35 2. So that may be swaying my judgment ... MoreThese are easy to setup and sound great but the noise canceling is almost non existent. I do not use my headphones for music alone so this review will go into much more detail about my big five observations which are sound, comfort, efficiency, looks, and if I would buy these again.Sound, even with them turned off they still offer a decent 1/5 noise canceling. When active I would rate it at a good 3/5 in power but be aware! This set does not connect to the JBL app for the awesome customization of what you can or cannot hear so if you are like me looking for good headphones to use as a sensory assist, these do not adjust and will just cut all sound out which sadly was not what I bought them for so overall for what I was expecting it's a 1 out of 5.Comfort is a decent 3/5, I was very surprised how well the over the ear set fit as I have a smaller head shape, but when completely taken in, fit perfectly. I will say the cushions on the ears are very comfortable but will not cup your ears fully, they just kind of sit on top but it's not too uncomfortable. Overall 3/5.Efficiency for myself personally is a 0/5, as I've stated I'm autistic and use headphones to block out most uncomfortable sounds. I assumed all of the JBL series would be included with the apps capabilities, at least with these being $100 but they do not connect to the app and thus only offer complete noise cancelation. I loved my old buds because I could adjust what and how much I could hear. So these are not really useful but I can't return them in store after wearing which was sad as I used my disability money on these. Definitely check if the set you want is supported by their app if you're looking for sensory headphones.Overall 1 out of 5 only because I didn't need or want headphones strictly for music, I need them as an accessibility aid. I wish they made it more clear that these were not supported by their app and have been a bit more transparent about the abilities.I hope this review helped, I wish I had gotten another set.

Love it!! but there are a couple things..

The headphones look really nice and the sound quality is great! The noise cancelling also works really well and the bass is pretty good, especially when NC is on. One problem though is that the sound leaks out a lot. For most people this wouldn’t be a problem but I like to listen to my music loud. Any loud song above 50-60% volume can be heard easily on the outside. It wont be bad if you’re walking around outside or at the gym, however in a quiet train or car people will hear your music, even the lyrics. Another thing to note is the outside of the ear part of the headphones are shinier than they look in the pictures. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, they still look great, but this isn’t for someone who wants more of a matte finish. Overall, other than the ... MoreThe headphones look really nice and the sound quality is great! The noise cancelling also works really well and the bass is pretty good, especially when NC is on. Overall, other than the sound leakage issue, these headphones are amazing and they even come with a detachable wire so you can choose when you want to have them wireless or not! Plus the buttons on the side aren’t complicated and are easy to get used to :) I haven’t tested the microphone yet but from other reviews I’ve read, it seems to be good. Oh one more thing is that the headphones fit pretty tight on my head and I have a small head. It’s not uncomfortable as the padding is very soft and cushiony, but my jaw starts to hurt a little after about 45 mins of use. I guess the tight fit is part of the noise cancelling, but just something to keep in mind. Hope this helps!

Microsoft Teams Issue
11 September 2020

Dear JBL,My problem is the same with all other users that purchased a JBL 600BTNC but the problem spans troughout JBL range. Conecting with Microsoft Teams and using them in handsfree mode. I do not question the sound quality of your products using them as stereo headphones which are really very good. It apeears to me that harmann/jbl are probably exiting this market and shortening their product range to top of the line for those who like to sit on a couch and only listen to music. The current world we are living in (Pandemia worls) requires that these type of product are versatile, and in case you have not noticed from school kids to top executives everyone is using videoconference systems throghout the world. Having a pair of good quality headphones that serves us during the day both for listening music and to work is all we need. And make no mistakes this is the new standart. If you do not compreend this than in 5 years we'll be saying "Remember JBL ? They had great headphones but they didn't catch up with a changing world". And answers like we "We never said it worked with skype" .... no comments. One thing is certain when mine break those are the last one I'll buy from JBL if you don't solve this issue in future equipements.Hope you see the light or the tunnel will never end.

THIS PRODUCT CAN PHYSICALLY HARM YOU: DO NOT BUY!!
1 August 2021

I got these headphones for chrsitmas, and they were pretty good, until 5 days later, the volume up buttons broke. No way to fix it because of the horrible design of this product, so that means you also CANNOT REBOOT THESE HEADPHONES. I continued to use this product for about another month because I could always adjust the volume using my device. Then, after about another month, these headphones made EXTREMELY LOUD squeaking noises, they were so loud that they caused ringing in my ears for about ten minutes.... I bet if you listened to the squeaking for too long you would most likely be hearing impaired or even go deaf. If you care about your ears, do not buy this product. These headphones could be free and I still wouldn't buy them.... This product has to be a joke, ... MoreI got these headphones for chrsitmas, and they were pretty good, until 5 days later, the volume up buttons broke. Was great but fell behind quickly

It’s lasted for awhile and still takes a charge but it’s not really compatible with apple products. If you wanna be fluid and switch devices JBL makes it so complicated to reset this model 600bt that I rather just break them in half and buy a new pair. It’s been 15 mins of trying to pair to my phone. However it keeps pairing to my iPad. I shouldn’t have to turn off my Bluetooth on my iPad to connect to my phone. Factory resets don’t work either. 20 seconds of holding two buttons? That’s absolutely insane, we might as well have to enter a key and biometric eye scan to reset the headset. I have long switched to airpod pros which are miles ahead of any jbl product. Just connectivity wise let alone everything else. JBL fell behind. Still to there loudspeakers. As for headsets you’re better off going with something made for your phone. Android to android and apple to apple. The website is so outdated that the manual doesn’t even load. The link is dead. Can’t find any info to reset. Bottom line trash.
