Good Speaker When Working, Bad Customer Support

They have no record of my call in December and said that they would give me 35% off a new speaker. At that point I asked to speak to a manager, and after waiting for 30+ minutes I was told that the best they could do was send me an email by the end of the day. We also have 4 Flip5’s and other JBL’s in our house and expected a better response when you spend $379 on a speaker.

The elephant in the room you can hear rumbling in the background is the bass. I didn't like the Xtreme 1 because of the lack of clean bass notes, and although I never experienced the Xtreme 2 I thought it wasn't quite ready, but the 3, is very nice. The bass actually has a great kick and nice extension to 42 htz, with some reaction all the way down to 36 htz you can hear in a small bathroom. The mid bass performance from 58-80 htz is fantastic, and what it was tuned for. The upper bass is clean and doesn't interfere with the mids. Because of this, the speaker, for the first time in the Xtreme lineup, can play all music genres at any volume. I am impressed with the full range of genres this speaker can play. Although it performs well, the bass doesn't overpower genres like rock, classical, jazz, folk, etc., and artists like Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley, and similar stuff sounds great. And because of the bass, it wubs, something not many speakers this size can pull off, especially when handicapped by passive radiators instead of using ports. (Ported speakers are inefficient and never water resistant nor waterproof) This water resistance is important where I work is very dusty and I have to rinse my speaker in water to clean it. The battery life is much better than expected, I get 18-24 hours of use with bassy music at half volume. The JBL design in the front is a very improved heat-synch. Much better than the small JBL before, and probably helps in hot weather. The price is good because it makes it available more often than if it was under priced.

Purchased this item with the insurance for over $500. Being a JBL and having owned multiple in the past, I went with a bigger investment like this one thinking I would get amazing sound. This was not the case. The sound quality is okay. It’s really just a speaker, there’s nothing fancy about the sound. There’s NO bass whatsoever. Anyone would think since it’s such a huge speaker, and JBL is owned by Harmon Kardon that there would be a decent amount of bass, but the bass is below subpar, below decent. Even with the bass all the way up on the JBL app, I could not get anything out of it. The speaker gets loud, real loud, but that’s all it’s good for. A speaker like this with the type of sound quality it produces is suitable for casual family get togethers, small events, or even to have in home while cleaning, moving things around, etc. I would not recommend this product. It’s far too costly for what it produces. It seems they put all their efforts into the majorly costly Boombox 2, but who has enough to go with that? It’s so huge and bulky, but even that can lack bass. JBL has disappointed me. I returned without looking back.

JBL Party Boost
17 May 2022

I own the JBL Charge 5, the JBL Flip 5, and the JBL Clip 4. The Charge 5 and Flip 5 sync well together on party boost, however you must not separate them by more than 10’ or less or 1 or both will kick on and off. I bought the Clip 4 believing & having heard all of JBL’s new line over water resistant, outdoor, active speakers would pair together. As many as you can buy! This is not true. The Charge 5 & Flip 5 being number 5’s pair, but the Clip 4 wont pair with the others. So the big question is.. will the Extreme 3 party boost pair to my Charge 5 & Flip 5?? For what its worth the Charge 5 is the tier right below the Extreme 2 & 3’s, for $150 cheaper and is an awesome speaker. Especially paired with the $110 value Flip 5. Absolutely awesome sound. Perfect apartment soundbar!

This soundbar delivers pretty incredible performance in a small footprint. It's very crisp and clear. It takes away that "wait, turn it up I couldn't hear them talking/oh no explosions turn it back down!” that you deal with listening on your TV. The surround sound multibeam set up is pretty effective. Obviously not like real satellites, but it has such a wide sound space and provides great depth of sound. It allows you to discover lower tones that normal tv speakers don't. It bills itself as a bar that doesn't need a dedicated subwoofer, and it delivers. Now your couch won't rumble like it might with a real subwoofer, but it sure does sound like it does 90% of the time. Now your couch won't rumble like it might with a real subwoofer, but it sure does sound like it does 90% of the time. It has the full bass of a subwoofer, without the rattling lows that would bother your neighbors. It's build quality is top notch, made of actual metal unlike most sound bars, adding to its premium feel. It has a fun display on the right side with scrolling words to show what mode or audio type you're listening to. And a simple basic remote. I’d also like to mention the fact that it has blue tooth connection, so you can connect your phone or computer to it, which is great! It also can connect to your home networks (Chromecast, Alexa, and Airplay) - I don’t have that in my apartment, but it’s a great feature to have as an option if I ever get it. You can connect your certain buttons of your TV remote to the soundbar, but I haven’t been able to get it to work. It very well might be my TV remote control! Honestly though, it’s not big of deal having two remotes. The only real con to the sound bar, in my opinion, is the lack of an easy settings menu. There is no button on the remote to change any settings of the soundbar, nor is there on the soundbar itself. You have to download the manual from the internet to figure this stuff out and it’s a bit cumbersome to change the settings. I would have expected to be able to easily change at least some settings like increasing speaker volume for specific speakers i.e. center, sub, or satellite from the remote with a settings menu, but alas, the settings options aren’t that easy. However, it does have automatic multibeam calibration, virtual dolby atoms you can turn on and off, pretty easy bass adjustment, and smart mode that you can turn and off for rich sound effects. TLDR it's amazing if you don't have the space for a full surround sound set-up or bar with sub and satellites! Just missing an easy way to change settings, but luckily it sounds and works well enough without. It’s a great fit for apartments or any rooms that you want better sound without a system, like a bedroom. I definitely recommend this soundbar!

Terrible with wireless connections, decent audio
9 November 2022

I like the sound but after trying to configure it for my environment, I was frustrated by constant or random disconnects. I have a Projector with (originally AppleTV, then changed to Firestick) and I have set up a wireless connection to the soundbar under the screen so that I don't have to wire a connection to is. The features in this product should support this functionality. Ultimately I have tried Airplay 2, Bluetooth, and finally Alexa, and the soundbar constantly wants to go to standby mode and won't stay connected wirelessly to my AppleTV or Firestick (consistently). For the AppleTV and airplay 2, I had an older AppleTV (that supports Airplay 2) and the soundbar would constantly disconnect then go to sleep every 5-10 minutes and I would have to manually ... MoreI like the sound but after trying to configure it for my environment, I was frustrated by constant or random disconnects. For the AppleTV and airplay 2, I had an older AppleTV (that supports Airplay 2) and the soundbar would constantly disconnect then go to sleep every 5-10 minutes and I would have to manually re-pair. Very frustrating and unusable!!! I would literally go to the bathroom or make a drink, and come back to it being unpaired AGAIN. I finally have it working reasonably with the Firestick, so I recommend this method to anyone that is running into similar issues but it still required me to purchase another streaming device instead of the AppleTV, and even then it still randomly will not connect automatically (but it is now at least usable). At least it doesn't consistently disconnect every 5-10 minutes like Airplay 2. I didn't get to try a newer AppleTV, but I honestly was done with the disconnections so wasn't going to continue using Apple. Bluetooth with the AppleTV also constantly disconnected. The Firestick will connect, but I need to turn on both the Soundbar and Firestick at the same time since the Soundbar standby mode doesnt seem to get the indicator that it should connect automatically. Aside from the wireless disconnects. Connecting the soundbar to with Apple Home or even Google home was terrible. I messed around with it long enough that i got it working, but i couldnt even define the exact steps. Just mess around with it until it connects. All the above is a shame because the sound is pretty good when it works for an all-in-one soundbar. I would go with a different product if I had the chance, I have had this for a full year now.

Wow really loud, really incredible sound. Can link it to other JBL speakers that are new enough and have more sound. This speaker can charge your cellphone by its USB-C port out or by its USB-A port out. Other speakers can only charge USB-A, this can do both. This also includes a shoulder strap for carrying it comfortably although you can carry it by hands. Charge time is 2.5 hours and it comes with a fixed AC adapter to plug into a household outlet. Other lesser models only come with USB-A on the end and you need to charge into a surge strip USB-A but this one charges right into an outlet. Very rugged and sturdy. I love this design. I recently purchased this speaker because my son-in-law had recently acquired the Xtreme 2 which sounded really good. I am glad I did. The sound & build quality is excellent for a system of this size. It's easy to set up the blue-tooth connection with my android phone and stream from the likes of Spotify. Apart from sound quality, what attracted me was it's portability from room to room as well as externally.
