Back in 2020 I rekindled my love of the backcountry after a 10 year hiatus. That Christmas my wife bought me a Jetboil Flash which took me by surprise because until that point I'd been perfectly happy with my existing stove, an MSR Pocket Rocket. But I cheerfully accepted the Flash and haven't looked back since. I've been super happy with it. I love my jetboil and how versatile and compatible it is. I've had it for over 5 years now and it still functions as intended. I've only had to replace my jetboil due to the reasons listed in the next paragraph (because I abused it). I bought it for backpacking but I also use it for day hikes in snow or high elevation because I like to have a cup of noodles or coffee when it's cold and this jetboil is so quick with boiling water.Warning: #1 - I do not recommend cooking anything in the jetboil canister as it can stick or ruin the canister. I tried making chili in my first jetboil and it stuck and I couldn't wash it off. This is a great beginner stove for folks who don't want to mess with slightly more complicated options or don't want to wait a trivial extra amount of time for their water to boil. It's very heavy and expensive though, so much so that I don't think it's worth it. REI sells MUCH better stove options from MSR, Snow Peak, etc. and there are a lot of titanium pot options from any number of companies. If you want to switch from a taller water/drink system (like this) to a wider pot that is easier for trail meals like ye olde ramen bomb then you're not stuck with one pot and can more easily do that. Same with thinner/lighter titanium pot options. I have had this system for about a year now. I really like the speed of boils for soups, freeze dried meals, and hot drinks. I read a lot of people saying the outer cover melting or even starting on fire. But I can say I haven't experienced any major malfunctions. Cans spin on good and snug container locks on stove part nice and snug also. The one problem I do have is the igniter doesn't work. When I first got it use it ice fishing for about two months. Then it became hit and miss weather it was going to work. So bottom line don't rely on it always have a form of backup ignition source. I also have noticed using actual jetboil fuel cans do spin on and off without leaking much gas versus other brands of gas.
This is a replacement to a previous Jetboil I have. I stuck with this brand because of the high quality of the product, how well this design works, and the built-in lighter. It is nice not to have to carry a separate lighter, although I do just to because a backup is always good in the back country.Wind does decrease the efficiency of this stove, so always good to shield it somehow. And cold fuel canisters also decrease how well the stove works. You should also use the stabilizing feet on the fuel canister to reduce spills with the top-heavy boiler.
Bought it two years ago and have used it maybe 15 times. This weekend, the igniter wouldn’t spark. It arcs out below the flame. Looking online, this appears to be a very common problem. Called JetBoil, and I have to purchase a $50 burner assembly replacement as they don’t sell an igniter replacement. The stove works well overall to heat things, but I can’t recommend an expensive product with a recurring design defect that didn’t last for very long. For the money spent on a jet boil, it should be much more durable for much longer, and an unreliable stove on a backpacking trip could be a big problem. Luckily, a friend had a lighter.

This review is for the replacement, which I'd tested briefly at home, then taken on a short backpacking trip.It functioned fine for the first few uses, but I started to smell something synthetic burning on the 3rd use. I quickly realized that the bottom of the insulation sleeve was melting, and the handle had detached at the bottom. This is my favorite Jetboil product that I’ve tried!! I love how simple this is to use and clean and being able to boil water in under two minutes has made cooking in the backcountry a breeze! I also love that you can also get the french press attachment to make coffee. It’s really lightweight and doesn’t take up much space in a pack. We even bring this skiing sometimes with a few packs of Ramen when we don’t want to pay resort prices for lunch :)I’ve used Jetboil products for years and have not been gentle with my gear and am amazed with how sturdy their products are! Super fast and easy to set up. I was able to quickly heat up water for meals, then again for cleanup. I brought up a fuel canister that is almost empty, thinking I would finish it off. I filled the pot with water and brought it to a boil 5 times on our overnight trip and never ran out of fuel. This thing is super efficient. I also loved the integrated igniter on this. I bought mine in 2005 and have used it on hundreds of climbs and backpacking trips. It is the only original gear I still have in my kit from when I moved west. Needless to say, this is thing works exceptionally well every single time. Sure, the starter stopped working the first or second season, but don't we all carry a lighter and matches anyway? The cup is versatile, the materials incredibly durable, and the boil time is faster and more efficient than my buddy's pocket rocket. Plus, I never need to worry about it tipping over.
